Stayed there twice in the last month and had very nice and spacious twin rooms both times. Location is perfect for walking into town. Great lounge areas inside and outside. Breakfast is included, which is very rare for a hostel....free toast, homemade jam, cereal,... Will definitely stay here again when I come back to Nelson.

After all the good reviews I read over the past months, I can only conclude that something has changed recently. When I called about an original booking, I asked about distance from the airport and how to get there without a car. "Alec" was very helpful and says they'd be happy to pick us up- just confirm arrival time. When...

We got to the accommodation a bit early and had to wait two hours for check-in. This was no problems for us. At 1:00 we were told that our room was ready for check-in. We got the key and where shown to the room. Turned out our room wasn't ready, the receptionist apologized and we told him that it was...

It was very easy for me to feel cozy and welcomed at The Palace. Alec was very helpful and friendly, every time I saw him he inquired how I was and how I was liking it. Very accommodating and easy transition when I had to move beds during my stay. Everyone had a chill demeanor and the whole vibe of...

I really enjoyed staying at the Palace. It feels like going over to friends or staying at your holiday house with a heap of chilled out people. The common areas are like living rooms and everything feels so homy and cosy with a personal touch. Alec and Nicolas (?) were very friendly checking me in, showing me around and taking...

I stayed here for five or six days. The house is old but very nice. Good view of Nelson and of the hills. The receptionist guy is very helpful and friendly, the same for the staff and woofers. There is a car park (5 or 6 places). The share room is nice, good view on Nelson. Great shower. Free breakfast...

I was not drunk.I do not drink. However I was intensely irritated by their attitude. This group said they would be arriving around 11pm,2hours after closing time and I offered to stay up and wait for them.I asked them to call again just before arriving so I could re-open reception, assign them a carpark and let them in.Instead I find one of them...

A friend and I used this as our Nelson base before and after doing the Abel Tasman Track. We stayed in both the 4 and 5 bed rooms. This is an old house and everything about it seems old, creaky stairs included. The shared bathrooms are well-kept and have some cool tile work. If you're looking for a cheap night...

I came to stay back at The Palace Backpackers after a disastrous sojourn at another, totally egregious, Nelson accommodation facility. (Please read my review of it on this site). The Palace welcomed me with open arms, just like they do everyone. The majority of residents are permanent or semi-permanent because this is a home away from home. Except it looks...
