We booked 'room number 4', a more private "room for 2", and stayed 3 nights and would happily have extended that to 3 weeks but were not in a position to. All those whom we met (we are retiree's) seemed to have been very happy with their accommodation, shared or otherwise. The facilities were very good. The location suited us...

Such a lovely, comfortable, homely feeling to this hostel. Really relaxed and welcoming staff with superb facilities and cosy rooms and living space. Quiet but friendly atmosphere. Would 100% recommended 😊

Second time here and feels like never been away. Its so small and cosy. So you just can love it here. Youve got a shared kitchen with a big table, a small living room with tv. Every room has max. 4 people. So thats really nice. Thanks to the team for that familiar stay here.

Shortbread Cottage is a well hidden gem in the great city of Nelson. Only a 5 minute walk to main street, shops, restaurants and bars, this hostel has the quiet feeling of being totally out of town. The facilities are super clean, complementary tea/coffee and herbs, great lounge with wood-burner and the best showers you'll get in a backpackers! Also,...

Tidy accommodation, just disappointed that the room did not have a lock & not advised of this upon booking. Beware that underwear gets stolen from the washing line! Great location & sunny Nelson lived up to its name.

* Visited August 2013 * Great hostel with shared kitchen, living and dining room as well as washer and dryer available for a small cost. Heater in the room for the cold and comfortable beds. It is very much a community hostel with a lot of backpackers happy to help out around the house, just like an extended family. Stayed...

Shortbread has the advantage of being a slightly smaller hostel which gives the advantage of knowing all the guests. The way the hostel is layed out it leads you to talk and chat to the other members and in a short space of time you feel like a family The location is great with the town centre within a 5min...

This place is fantastic! It is so cozy and homely. The hostel is pretty small and do not have that many rooms which is actually quite nice because it make it feel more like a 'home'. The kitchen is nice and clean and so is the two bathrooms. The hostel has a lovely living room with a wonderful chimney! The...

Fantastic place to stay for a few days. The beds are comfy and the atmosphere in the hostel is beautiful. The kitchen is stunning with everything you need....great fire in the living room. We were lucky to have a dorm room to ourselves for 2 nights. An added bonus of having Wi-Fi.
