Nice kitchen, eating space, and living space! Beds are big and comfortable. Free wifi is topped only by the free chocolate pudding and ice cream every night. Breakfast provided. People were very friendly there and staff encouraged backpackers to interact so met a lot of interesting people.

I first visited tasman bay about 8 years ago and was a little worried than my second visit would not fulfil my expectations,i was wrong! Lovely owners, manages and staff made my long term stay in nelson a great experience, felt like one of the family staying there any question or request was always dealth with swiftly, wifi does kill human interaction in...

I stayed here for three weeks, and overall it was a very enjoyable experience. The unexpected bus pickup (as someone else mentioned) was a really nice surprise, to begin with. Uli and the other staff were super friendly and had lots of suggestions on what to do in Nelson. I was in a private double (which was heavily discounted during...

After an 10 hour coach journey we were faced with the prospect of walling 20mins to Tasman Bay Backpackers but the manager decided as we had not arrived at the Hostel yet to try and pick us up! A great relief. Then free ice cream and chocolate pudding in the evening a great arrival! Good to have included internet, movies,...

The hostel owners clearly have gone to a lot of effort to make this place cosy and welcoming. There are loads of lovely little touches like a free bank of films on their servers, free breakfast and free chocolate pudding and ice cream every night. They have a big spacious yet comfy and cosy common room, a clean kitchen, nice...

Cold water in the shower on a cold night. Wifi that doesn't reach the room well. A cramp room. A toilet door that bangs onto my bed frame when opened. Noisy neighbours. A pathetic heater that would never even stay on. A room that has little privacy. Nothing could redeem the dreadful stay. Won't even bother highlighting the positive points....

We're genuinely very sorry that this has been your experience. Of course a cold shower should not happen this time of the year. This seems very unfortunate. With regards to the heaters. This is a conscious safety decision. We therefore supply extra blankets and hot water bottles upon request. In any case, we very much encourage people to come to...

Staff was great, picked us up from the bus stop, told us things to do, arranged a taxi. It is a bit of a walk to town but not far (probably too far to walk comfortably with baggage), it's close to the water. They had pudding at night which was great. Our room was decent but we shared two toilets,...

This was a great hostel with lots of FREE stuff which all backpackers love - Wi Fi, chocolate pudding & ice cream every night at 8pm & breakfast in the morning, though none of the food is any good if you're unable to eat gluten! The common rooms/kitchen were quite clean and a decent size. I really loved the bathroom...

Was told about this place when I was in Kikoura. As soon as I got through the door the welcome I recieved was wonderful. Was shown to a lovely 4 bed dorm which was heated throughout. Can sit by an open coal fire listening to relaxing kiwi music, so homely really is hard not to mak friends here! All the...

we stayed here for 2 nights in a double room (on trip advisor and lonely planet recommendation) and it was lovely! Nice room with comfy bed, clean showers - always a bonus. Obviously the major plus points were the free chocolate pudding and breakfast and the wifi was really good too. The hostel had a lovely atmosphere, was a great...
