This backpack is well known for its chocolate pudding with ice cream that is served every evening at 8pm short (since 9 years!). But it should be known for their convenient rooms (dorms are bigger than in the majority of backpackers, toilets are separate for male/female & showers ate also quite good. I recommend this hostel.

We found the hostel to be very cozy; clean with friendly staff and two fully equipped kitchens. As an added plus ice cream & pudding was served to the guests every night at 8:pm. Free storage provided for gear while away tramping.

Having worked in Nelson for 6 weeks and living there for almost 3 months I actually ended up trying 4 of Nelsons hostels. Tasman Bay is by far the best hostel in Nelson and one of the best if not the best hostel I have stayed at in New Zealand. It is a very homely hostel with a large living...

Everyone was so friendly and the kitchens and rooms were very clean and well equipped. It was very well kept as well, with everything looking like it was checked regularly. The showers were great and roomy as well with good pressure. Chocolate self saucing pudding was also a nice bonus! Only a 10 min walk to the supermarket and centre...

I stayed for one night but would've loved staying for longer! The atmosphere is really cool, the rooms were big and comfortable, the bathrooms are big as well and the fact you get free chocolate pudding is a nice detail. The owners are really nice and do pick you up at the bus station. The kithcen and dining areas are...

Tasman Bay Backpackers is the perfect hostel in my opinion. The compromise between price and location is great. It's only a 10 minute walk to the city center. The hostel is extremely clean and very well maintained. Most of the time hostels look a bit shabby because naturally where there are many people, things get used and broken and usually...

Good double room with en suite. Large kitchen and lounge area. Helpful staff. 10 minute walk to town centre. Free chocoloate pudding is bad and they shouldn't really advertise free bikes because most of them were not even roadworthy.

Hi there, Thanks for your review. Regarding the bikes .... sometimes it is hard for us to keep up with the repairs. Being free to use they are hugely in demand and get very well used. You have caught us at a time when we have had a very busy January and not had time to do the repairs ......

Such a lovely, clean hostel, and friendly, helpful staff. only a short walk from the centre of Nelson, and from where most coaches drop off/pick up from. The cake and ice cream was a lovely surprise too! I would have loved to stay longer!

This hostel was great and not just because of the free chocolate pudding at 8pm each night! It's a short walk out of town but worth the effort. Clean, tidy, well equipped kitchen and nice inside and outside areas to hang out in. I had a clean, comfortable four bed dorm which was nice and quiet at night due to...
