The hotel is old, but our room was nicely updated. We had a large room with a queen bed, and a twin bed. Lots of room for luggage. Although in the center of town, our room overlooked a side road and was nicely quiet. The floor plan is a bit of a maze, making finding our way around somewhat interesting....

We hadn't planned to come to Oamaru but had to change our travel plans at the last minute and this was one of the few places with a room available at short notice. The hotel is in serious need of refurbishment and an upgrade. It all looks very tired and dated. There was a most unpleasant smell in our room...

Great place to experience Oamaru's historic Victorian quarter. Charming hotel with different corridors leading around the building. We stayed in the old hotel - definitely better for us than the newer annex. The staff was very friendly and helpful - they let us check in early, and accommodated our request for a quiet room. The room was nice - modern...

The hotel is conveniently located in town. Being old, the lobby area was very cramped. An add-on to the hotel resulted in floors in one wing not aligning with those in the other, so one had to go up stairs half a flight in order to eventually work one's way down stairs. Our triple room had three twin beds. The...

This hotel is like a rabbit warren. We parked at the car park at the back of the hotel and went in the back entrance. To get to reception we were directed upstairs, through various corridors and back downstairs. It was farcical. It smelled musty and mouldy and was very dated. The most modern part was the shower room. At...

We were warmly welcomed in the early evening and made our way to our room which was wonderful. We were offered free wifi (via a voucher for up to 5 devices) which we accepted. Beyond the carpark below, we could see the harbour area and the lights from the penguin place and hillside above. The room itself was spotless, reasonably...

The hotel is very good with spacious and very clean rooms. It has a very nice bar and restaurant. It is located in the heart of the city. The service is excellent and the people are very kind. Great spot to visit on your way to see the penguins and the steampunk.

After spending one night (only one, luckily) at this hotel, here's what I think: this was an old building, road facing, which was expanded with a second building in more recent years, with a "seamless" connection so that from the inside it looks like you are still in the same building. The final result is a half-maze which doesn't really...
