Very convenient location, right across Intercity's bus stop and i-Site. Nice room, comfortable bed, sufficient air conditioning thus warm, clean en suite bathroom, excellent and free WiFi connection, friendly staffs, definitely would stay here again during next visit to Kaikoura.

This place was dead. Didn't feel comfortable at all during my stay. Bathrooms were clean however and was directly next to where the bus drops you off. I would definitely recommend staying elsewhere and walking 10 minutes. Another traveller I met said they stayed at YHA. It had a good vibe and an even better view.

We stayed in this hostel for two nights and could not fault the location and service. The lady on reception was lovely and helpful. The hostel was clean but quite dated. The showers needed a bit of modernising as did our double room. Although the view of the sea from our room was brilliant the room itself was exceptionally small...

I stayed here one night in April. The hostel definitely has a charm about it, what with the fun marine themed murals painted all over the walls and ceiling of the shared areas! Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t great while I was there so I couldn’t take advantage of the balcony but I could see how it could be a lovely...

We booked a double room with ensuite and so my review will mainly be based on that type of rooms at the Fish Tank Lodge. The double room we stayed in would deserve the rating poor, however, my overall rating (=average) gives credit for some shared facilities like washer/dryer and bathrooms, and the possibility that there might be good things...

Stayed in the Fish Tank Lodge for two nights in a four bed dorm. Was greeted by a extremly nice, friendly, yet professional woman who explained all about the hostel and the rules very informatively. Went into my dorm to find one of the cleanest and neatest hostel dorm i've seen in New Zealand, everything in the room right down...

I had a lovely, clean, comfortable bed here in a six bed female dorm on the first floor. At first there doesn't seem to be many showers or toilets for the number of rooms but I never had to queue and the water was hot! Reasonably well equipped kitchen although a bit awkward to move around if there's more than...

This place is opposite the isite/ bus drop off and across the road from the beach. Friendly staff. We stayed in a 3 bed dorm was clean apart from tiny blood on my bed sheet old dried. The bathroom and toilets were clean. Kitchen good size and lounge was a good size with tv. There is two tables and lots...

The location of Fish Tank Lodge is unbeatable (opposite i-site) We stayed in a 3-bed dorm on the ground floor for $60 per night in early January. Linens were clean and comfortable. Because the room was beside two bathrooms so it was quite humid and noisy, especially at night. P.S It seems the owner is trying to sell the biz....

“If you don't mind to spend more but rather have more quietness, the private en-suite on first floor might be better.”

“I did the deep sea fishing trip. Was great pulling up the baskets and then cooking one for dinner that night. Doesn't get any more fresh 😊”

“I think the 3-bed dorm gives a possibility of a single bed, which I myself prefer. Otherwise the rooms do not really have views, but the lounge does, a nice one.”
