My wife and stayed for a night here, we initially picked it for being one of the cheaper places to stay ($119 per night) and it had a pool. The temp was around 27 degrees so the pool was very much welcomed. There was seating both beside the pool and in the garden area. There was also a spa if...

I stayed a night here because of the hotel's proximity to Whangarei airport, as I had an early morning flight to catch. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the accommodation was lovely and clean, with the most comfortable king sized bed I've slept on. The continental breakfast was substantial with good variety including preserved and fresh fruit, and the...

New Years Eve and wanted to dine out as we had heard this place was under new management we thought why not give it go. Bad mistake! Rung and booked our table prior and was a really nice greeting and conversation on the phone so we were off to a good start. We arrived to what looked like the cleaner...

Stayed one night for business, room was very clean and tidy, nice view over the pool. Nice reception area and lots of parking. Close to supermarket, tavern and fish & chip shops. I was very disappointed that the restaurant and bar was not open for lunch or dinner due to it being a public holiday, as that was the main...

Nothing spectacular . Good venue, bit dated but this place needs to be utilized . Very gloomy, dull. Perhaps take on board a vibrant restaurant , constantly host functions entertainment events. Promotion and marketing efforts could save this place from a melt down .

Have stayed several times in past. Has a welcoming well lit foyer with bar to one side. Has potential if someone can inject some heart into the place! Not really connecting with guests. But rooms clean and spacious. Apparently a new chef has been appointed. We did not eat at the hotel.

I was in WRE for work and this was close to airport. Nice breakfast and the room was good. Don't expect modern rooms but they are nice neat and tidy. Owners were helpful too. I was given the best room in the hotel. Happy customer

We've just had 2 nights at Flames. It's a bit away from Whangarei itself but if you have a car it's not too far. The room was large and clean but the bed was very soft and sagged badly in the middle. For the second night we put two pillows under the mattress which gave us a much better sleep....

I teetered on giving this hotel a 3 rating. It does have some positives: huge rooms with nice picture window over a pretty good view and close to the airport. However the rooms are very poorly furnished and the bedding seemed clean but the quality was poor and affected my sleep, as did odd the high pitched noise in the...

Need a night away, or a sleep before your flight or even a few nights rest and a base to work from while visiting the mid north. I visited The Flames a few years ago and I must say I was less than impressed, however a change of ownership and a bit of good old fashion hard work have turned...
