rare experience in terms of access to the accommodation as the only access is by flying fox. The flying fox takes 2 people and luggage. The chalets were rarely interesting . The accommodation was warm and comfortable in a quiet peaceful bush location. Really friendly accommodating hosts.

We stayed here as a large group of 11 whilst mountain biking the Mountain to Sea trail. It was a perfect stop over that added to our adventure. The cableway offers fantastic views whilst traversing over the river and is an awesome way to gain entry to the property I highly recommend this. The food provided by Jan and Kelly...

From the moment of arrival to the time of departure this place captivates the imagination. We arrived by bicycles down a steep drive to a small shed and landing where a cable stretched across the river. There is a gong and an intercom. A voice gives instruction and a cable car arrives from the other side. We crossed the river...

This place is simply amazing, from the moment you get out of your car! Unlike anywhere I have stayed around the world! Excellent hosts who are friendly and very accommodating. The food was fantastic and the location breath taking! We didn't have a lot of time so only stayed over night but already we are looking at dates to go...

Our group stayed here on our cycle trip from Ohakune to Whanganui. We had been a bit underwhelmed by the levels of hospitality at some of our other accommodation on the ride. This was a completely different experience and we were won over by its charm and originality, and the hospitality. From the cable car ride over the river to...

We stayed with Kelly and Jane as part of our cycle trip and wished we could have stayed longer, the property is so unique and there is so much to see that you need a few days. Arriving on a flying fox is the first step and then you step into wonderful gardens and unique cottages dotted around the property,...

Spent Christmas Eve and Day at this property and really liked the place. Jane and Kelly really made you feel welcome! Saw deers and the kids loved the chickens very much .. haha. Had fun barbequeing outdoor and definitely loved the cable car! Note: Beware of sandflies - make sure to have repellent handy; it's everywhere in New Zealand but...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Three rustic self-contained, handbuilt cottages are nestled in a garden and bush setting overlooking the Whanganui River. A 'Glamping' tent and a small number of camping pitches complete the accommodation choices. This piece of paradise has been lovingly developed into a truly unique place to stay. Access is only by aerial cableway or via the river by canoe or river taxi, making it the ideal 'get away from it all' retreat. All the cottages are fully equipped with bedding, towels, kitchens, music and book collections. For campers there is a bush shower and toilet facilities. There is also free wi-fi access for those who need to keep in touch with the outside world. Halfway between Pipiriki and Whanganui along the Mountain to Sea Cycle Trail and Te Araroa Walkway , this is also a welcome overnight stay for cyclists, canoeist and walkers. Dinner and breakfast can be provided , and 'The Store' at the Flying Fox has provisions for self-catering with our gardens providing organic in season fruit/vegetables along with local artwork and other products. ... more   less
