This was the first time I've stayed at Bushy Park homestead. It was so good I can't wait to return! Comfy and very warm beds, and warm and caring hosts. The bonus you get by staying rather than just doing a day visit? The birds! Make sure you head along the walk to the wetland soon after dawn to enjoy...

As a group of quirky young women (5 of us), we were looking for a very unique and memorable place to celebrate a special occasion. Bushy Park more than satisfied! As lovers of all things vintage, pre-1940's and retro, we were able to enjoy the historic with modern amenities! Add on top of that, great hosts, incredible food and tranquil...

This is a super special thing to do with people of any age. Wanna see a more pork land one metre away from you? Want to have wee Robins bouncing around at your feet? Then stay at this beautifully restored homestead and step back in time. Great hosts, great nature, great food too!

Privilege to stay (and in doing so contribute to) somewhere that shows how NZ as it used to be in terms of birds buildings and forests. The sound and sight of the birds and the amazing forest was incredible. The difference between this and other non pest NZ forests make it a truly enriching experience. And you can actually stay...

Bushy Park is not on the usual tourist radar. The I-site did not have any info about it. We found this only because a local friend insisted we go check this out. An easy drive there, about 20 mins away from Wanganui centre, just follow the sign board. At the entrance of this park, I had a "Welcome to Jurassic...

There's nowhere else like Bushy Park - a beautifully maintained and very elegant Edwardian building surrounded by a predator-proof fence and 100 hectares of bush. Thanks to the fence the bush and garden are full of birds, many of them rare or endangered. The North Island saddlebacks, which by the 1960s had been reduced to one population on a small...

My wife and I stayed here with another couple. The Homestead, built in 1902, still reeks with the character of that era. It is set among 220 acres of pristine native bush and forest and 3 acres of gardens. The bus walks are excellent and the bird life many and varied. The rooms are all kept in character apart from...

Visited Bushy Park for the chance of seeing the "real" NZ and were not disappointed. Had a lovely walk and saw a vast number of birds in their natural habitat; the people who set up and maintain the park are nothing less than heroes. Highlight of the holiday was a very confiding Robin who seemed as interested in us as...

Not nice to be greeted by a grumpy man who gave us no information whatsoever about the various walks available, all he said was look at the desk by the entrance. We did. There was absolutely nothing there other than a visitors book. Admit to having a little laugh, though, when we rang the bell by the kitchen and saw...
