Our trip started with a warm welcome and a tour of the grounds with info as to what further things were available. The room info book was very informative. The lodge family were very friendly and you were always greeted with a smile. The swimming hole was just divine and all of us played on the kayaks. The rooms were...

Thanks for the review... Ah yes, we were very pleased to be able to accommodate your parents in their camper van! DO return and enjoy all we have to offer, including hunting for that elusive gold nugget :) Blessings.

We stayed here with our 13 and 10 year old daughters. It was the best way to start our holiday. You feel part of the river and bush and have the perfect mix of relaxing and doing. Really well appointed chalet - complete with an amazing dawn chorus. Swim holes were great! What we really loved was exploring up river,...

Thanks for your review!!! It genuinely warmed our heart and put a smile on our faces. To hear of folk abandoning technology, losing track of time, allowing their senses to come alive; to hear, see, feel, taste and smell is absolutely outstanding... and to hear that in so doing your family were able to truly bond, makes all our efforts...

We love this place and can't wait to go back. Love the cabin, love the bush, love the swimming hole. Murray and Dorothy and their team are pretty cool too. One of our favourite places to stay. I can understand why so many people rate Te Mata Lodge as excellent. And seriously, the driveway is not a problem, if you...

We're very grateful for your review and advice to our future guests, thanks!!! Especially for our overseas guests... Much of our accommodation, whether self-contained or cabins, are very typical of a by-gone era in NZ pioneering history where very basic holiday dwellings were built in often remote, hidden places. Those that still remain are much loved, and were nicknamed "Baches"...

What an amazing holiday spot. Te Mata lodge is nested amongst tall tree ferns and a little river. We stayed in a holiday cottage and it had everything - cooking facilities, comfy beds - nice TV etc. You will be greeted bu Murray or Mike - the best hosts you will come across. Te Mata lodge is a great place...

Thoroughly enjoyed our time at Te Mata Lodge, on arrival we were met with a warm welcome from Murray, and shown to our cabin. We stayed for two nights and toured the area, our cabin was clean, stocked with everything needed for a self catering holiday. Wish we could've stayed longer!

We wish you had stayed longer too, but we do realize that for our overseas guests there's lots to see throughout NZ and mostly limited time to see it all. We're very thankful for your review, and certainly hope that when you next visit an extended stay here will be scheduled :) Happy New Year!!!

What a jewel to find, we had a family of five as well as myself and my son. Found Te Mata on booking.com, the price was right and it looked different to other, MOTELS. There's an old saying that suggests, "a jewel found is worth holding onto & investing in." To hear others describe our property as we ourselves describe it, gives us much delight!!! So thank you! When we're looking for a place to stay, we always check Tripadvisor reviews first, then visit the accommodation provider's own website to get their full property...

This was our 3rd stay and we thoroughly enjoyed our time, always a pleasure to see Murray & Dorothy. Wonderful hosts, always willing to go to the extra mile. The cottage was pristine and comfortable, a great place to get away and relax. Look forward to going again this year.

We stayed in the two bedroom cottage. I had my elderly parents with me and my two teenagers and we were all very comfortable. The cottage is excellent, great linen! and everything you need to self cater with plenty of room to move about for 5 or 6 adults. The owners were fantastically friendly and helpful. The environment was excellent,...
