What a great place this is to stay at. The rooms are laid out around shred kitchens and an outdoor area with BBQ. This made perfect for a group to stay at as we filled 5 rooms there with 13 of us staying after a family funeral. The manageress was wonderful and quite a character.

It’s in a handy location at one end of the town with two restaurants on the property and several more within easy walking distance. Booking in is bit of a fuss, first you have to find the Admiral Stirling, not easy, and when you get there you find you have to check in across the

We had two nights in Cabin accommodation which had two bedrooms separated by a bathroom. Each bedroom had a small bar fridge and tea/coffee making and a very small TV. In the same building was a very good communal kitchen and covered outdoor courtyard with tables and chairs.

We had booked a three night stay in the Bosun's Quarters, and what a disappointment. First this, and the two adjoining units, are difficult to access up an extremely narrow lane off Ned Higgins Lane beside the Inn building. We could not even find the room without having the lady

We stayed in the Stern Room for 2 nights. There is a shared verandah (with a divider in between our room and the next, and we had our own outdoor furniture) with 3 other units and a common BBQ. Didn't use the BBQ as it didn't look too appealing as it's located in front of the

I think most people take the SouthWest option because it's more straightforward. Seeing they are closed because of the public holiday, a possible two options remain. 1) TransWA. I think the other operator you're referring to would be TransWA. Train to Bunbury then Bunbury to Margaret RIver by bus. The train leaves Perth at 9.30am on 2nd Jan. This will cost you $88. But you seem to suggest you have a problem getting to the Perth train station? 2) Take a train to Mandurah. Transperth I think. Then find a TransWA bus from Mandurah to Margaret River. This is probably more complicated. 3) Self-Drive. I know you want to save costs but I'd like to highlight that Margaret River is a very small town. You will cover the urban area in a day, easily. Unless you're there for a nature walk or retreat, self driving would allow you the option of exploring the region around it such as the magnificent caves along Caves Rd as well as the lighthouses. There are some cheap car rental companies such as Firefly though I'm not sure if they're open on 2nd Jan. Of course there is also the option of cancelling your room from 2-5 jan and rebooking from 3-5 jan. Cancelling should be free I believe, if you do it now.
