Had our yearly forum here.

Beautifully located near City Park.

Rooms are very large.

Decor is perfect for it's location, feels old worldly. View was of the beautiful old church across the road.

Room had a portable air conditioning system which was loud. Not a great nights

Good location which made it easy to walk to restaurants. the room was clean and of good size with a very comfy bed. Happy hour in the bar was especially good. Breakfast buffet was excellent with a great range of choice.

Review collected in partnership with this hotel
Nice old hotel (at least on the outside) located very close to the center of town. It's walking distance to a park, to many great restaurants and shops as well. The hotel itself though is in need of a makeover, however. It's VERY dated, rooms are drab, depressing and lackluster.

I found this accommodation very basic, beds we hard and uncomfortable.
The staff were not helpful, and not curious at all.
I would not recommend this place or stay here again if I travelled to Launceston.

Generally good however there was no ventilation in the bathroom and the room was stuffy. Comfortable bed! Not set up for the warmer months. The lifts work well. Unfortunately there are no balconies and the windows were difficult to open.

Hi Shirley, The possibly reason for the toilet brush being missing is cross contamination from the previous guest. This would be a pubic liability issue for any hotel. If the cleaner is the only one cleaning the toilet and follows hygiene protocol then nobody's health is put at risk. Putting faeces anyway near possible drinking water (the glass next to the basin) is a bad idea and cholera is one one but a host of water born diseases than can be spread by cross contamination. Kind Regards Paul Gilbert (former guest and fellow traveler)
I read that there is no gym or pool onsite? I thought most, if not all, 4 star hotels have pools and gyms. I only also found out that to access a nearby gym will cost $15. Does anyone else think that's a rip off? Shouldn't it be complimentary!
Coming to give grand chancellor Another go tonight . After a disappointing stay about twelve months ago . (Cold showers and unhelpful staff) Has the shower issue been fixed? Cheers Darren Hansen.
Staff were a little vague with tourist questions however bathroom was fine

what is the rate for a Friday & Saturday night in August with breakfast - advanced purchase. 2 seniors, double room.
Best google that as you will get good prices direct with the hotel but also other providers but you would probably get a room if you book in advance for under 130AUD in winter
