The Mantra on Charles was a former hospital, located hillside on Charles Street overlooking the new hospital with views of the hills and valley at front of hotel.

A large building with resedential apartments and hotel rooms, very spacious with modern decore, wide corridors and high ceilings.

There are local businesses and some government departments leasing office space within the hotel property, it's quite a nice little hub, though uncrowded and pleasant.

There is ample free parking for guests, reception issues a voucher for you're stay, place on dashboard.

There is a laundry with a sink, washing machine and dryer, costs $4.00 each, if you don't have you're own laundry powder, for $2.00 you can purchase from dispensing machine.

GM Dougal, ASM Viash, reception and resteurant staff polite, professional, guest orientated, approachable and accommodating at all times.

Front foyer area spacious with ample comfortable seating, a great area to relax and socialise outside of room.

Resteurant has a continental breakfast and set menue available with a selection of tasty cooked choices and sides on offer, with table service. Dinner is also a set menue, the choices are varied, local produce sourced, meals are presented extremely well and are prepared by a professional chef.

My stay was in a suit which was clean, tidy and well serviced, microwave, stove, bar fridge, jug ect. TV and airconditioning fully functioning and effective. Noise levels are very low. A comfortable king bed with large long pillows, sufficient covers, bedside table and lighting. Large windows allow natural lighting, sufficient unnatural lighting, and adjustable blinds.

Bathroom clean, shower pressure strong and hot water constant, adjusted easily, large bathroom basin and mirror, serviced with a variety of toiletries.

I thoroughly recommend this hotel.

I’m so torn. I actually found the Mantra experience really great. I stayed here recently as my sister required urgent surgery over the Christmas/new year period and the location next to the hospital is a godsend. Due to the last minute booking I needed to stay in 3 different rooms as I had to have twin options when my sister was able to join me (this wasn’t the Mantra’s fault). All 3 rooms were more spacious than I expected from the photos online and were very comfortable. The bathrooms were good, cleaning was efficient, and all the little extras were handy.
Liz on the desk was absolutely fantastic, she went above and beyond to help us feel at home. The food from the restaurant was actually delicious- both delivered in the room and the restaurant. I had 3 dinners and a breakfast and all were impressive.
The beds were comfortable, I agree with another review that the ‘joiner’ that is added to combine the twin beds into a king could be improved, it’s a bit too raised meaning I was on an angle, and it was a far better experience when I removed it.

My biggest issue by far was the blinds... they look trendy, but in all 3 rooms they did not block any light. I saw some previous reviews mentioned it (7 months ago) and it’s a shame the hotel management hasn’t actioned it. Simply invest to add an additional roller block out blind behind them, or some actual curtains. I was woken at 4.50am due to the light- the last photo shows my dangerous attempt at blocking the sunrise with a blanket. If these blinds were fixed I’d give this hotel 5/5. But it’s so frustrating that despite all the other great things about this hotel, I would be reluctant to stay again. I shouldn’t have to wear an eye mask to sleep past 5am when I’m paying decent money for a room.

Thank you for staying with us and for taking the time to provide such a detailed review. I am pleased that you enjoyed your stay and found the team to be helpful -- thanks for mentioning Liz at reception specifically. I am sorry that the blinds in the room were a frustration. We get mixed feedback on these blinds and we are planning some changes to our rooms currently, and the blinds are part of this. Thank you again. I hope that your sister has recovered well and we hope to welcome you back when next in Launceston. Kind regards, Dougal McConnell General Manager dougal.mcconnell@mantra.com.au

We had a 2 night stay at the Mantra Charles Hotel Launceston and enjoyed our stay.
This was our 1st time to Launceston and we found the hotel well located to the CBD, gardens and parks.
Parking is on site (outside) and we had no trouble finding a park however you need to display a parking ticket authority from reception when checking in.
We had a King room which meet all of our needs, very comfortable bed and all bathroom amenities you would expect from a Mantra Hotel.
Our room was clean and well presented my only recommendation would be to remove the very used uncomfortable orange armchair and the very heavy chair under the small bench they are so outdated.
Breakfast was included in our room rate which we both enjoyed however didn't find the male staff member friendly and seemed quite anxious even though there wasn't that many in for brekkie.
The only negative was when checking out we were asked to pay for our 2 day breakfasts which was included in our room rate and I also had a voucher stating breakfast was included which I showed her.
The senior receptionist told us she would sort it out later which worried us as I was sure it would be added to our credit card, thankfully it wasn't.
This put a bit of a damper on our stay as we weren't even asked did we enjoyed our stay!
We use Mantra Hotels when ever we can on our holidays around Australis and on this holiday to Tasmania we used 3 Mantra Hotels and will continue to do so.
However despite this hiccup we did enjoy our stay at the Charles.

My wife and I stayed in this refurbished former hospital in the heart of Launceston over 2 nights in December 2020.

* The rooms presented were large and clean with comfortable beds.

* Wifi worked well

* Breakfast was offered in the dining room at a cost of 25 dollars per person ala carte. Unfortunately it doesn't appear the restaurant provides lunch, dinner and/or room service.

* Location was great, within walking distance of several restaurants and local attractions.

* We found Tasmanian accomodation to be quite expensive so to get the above for a mid 100's cost we felt represented decent value.

* Staff were friendly and accomodating to requests.

Overall I would recommend this hotel.

Stayed here on Wednesday 4th March for my birthday and we ordered room service for dinner, we got a handful of burnt, hard chips and one small piece of fish, and it was disgusting and overcooked. Our breakfast the next morning was also disgusting, pancakes were dry and the eggs Benedict was overcooked. Our room was clean and comfortable but the bed was too soft. Maybe they should look at their sister hotel in Perth, Mantra on Hay to see how to be generous with their food portions and not overpriced!!!

We stayed in two interconnecting one bedroom rooms for three nights.

The hotel has laundry facilities which we utilised and they were good.

The rooms aren’t massive but the small kitchenette was adequate and the shower in the bathroom while small had excellent water pressure.

While right across the road from the emergency department the place isn’t a short stroll to anywhere else and it is on the side of the hill so walking is a bit of a hike. Parking seemed limited but we managed to get a spot each night.

Beds were comfortable and the heating worked well.

Breakfast was only okay.

The reception was very friendly and helpful and created a good atmosphere every time you went past.

We stayed for three nights. Our room was very clean, spacious and quiet, with a very comfortable bed. Staff were friendly and quite helpful. The hotel staff were obviously well aware of their Covid obligations which made us feel quite comfortable. Free car parking was available and utilised, this is always a bonus for us. We are looking forward to staying again when next in Launceston.

The joint but seperate King sized bedrooms were great but the best part of my stay was the front desk staff member Kerryn. I was two $1 short for drying my laundry and she offered for me to use her own money, purely out of convinience for me! This was incredible customer service, a true definition of an employing going above and beyond to serve a guest. Thanks Kerryn!!

This well located hotel in Launceston, is on the edge of the business/CBD area. A short stroll to the shops and waterfront. Located in the valley of surrounding hills, it is an easy walk to sights (as opposed to walking up and down hills to other accomodation sites.
Good size rooms and facilities. 4 star amenities (no pool).
Bonus is family suites that have 2 large bedrooms with kitchenettes, ensuites and sitting areas with own space - all accessed from one entry door.
