What attracted me to Pod Inn was its proximity to places of interest like Launceston Transit centre, Cataract Gorge, museums and shopping malls, supermarkets and eating places.

Also liked the fact that the pods can be locked, so you can leave your things in the pod with some peace of mind. The hostel is also equipped for those with mobility issues.

But if you need to get your laundry done, you have to liaise with the receptionist when you can use the only washing machine and only dryer there , which was probably the most expensive I had come across at A$5.50 per cycle for each machine. Also you need to use credit or debit card payment which is done at the reception. The soap powder is free.

If you come earlier than 2pm, you’ll have to wait outside the locked gates until someone is going out or returning. There’s no staff at the reception. If you choose to leave your luggage behind the reception counter, there’s also no one to mind them till you return for your check in.

I had the best experience, the single bed capsule are big and the bed sheets impeccably clean. The common area has air fryer, rice cooker, microwave and the furniture is new: the environment feels chill and neat. From there you can access Gatsu Gatsu japanese restaurant: good and affordable food. I had special needs and the manager was so helpful. All the staff was so kind and overall the vibe was very quiet. Solo travellers, backpackers and small groups, no noisy tourists

The Inn is accessed via a gate which leads to the reception. Bookings are simple, the swipe access card was supplied on arrival followed by a brief tour of the Inn. Pods are made from a thick plastic not dissimilar to the road barriers used in road works. You are supplied with a locker that can fit a large suitcase inside. Bathroom, kitchen and toilet are shared with other visitors and are reasonable. Unfortunately during our stay there was a drunk male that was swearing on the phone and had on display his "recreational" smoking material. I woke up several times to the male coughing from 5am onwards. The Pods are NOT very sound proof and can get pretty hot inside as the only ventilation you can get is two smalls fans located at the top of the Pod. Lighting in the Pod is highly customisible and the bedding supplied is comfortable. Overall, if the male wasn't staying at the Inn, the experience would have been pretty good.

My partner booked this and I was a bit sceptical but was pleasantly surprised. The pods were super cool! In comparison to a regular hostel with bunk beds etc this is a great alternative and provides privacy even though everyone in the same room. Some cool functions in the actual pod which makes this a unique experience. Very clean as well. Shared bathroom facilities great.
There’s also an adjoining Japanese restaurant which was great!
Pods weren’t overly soundproof but I guess that’s what you generally get in hostels. However, you do have privacy to certain degree.
Helpful staff giving us options for parking. All in all a fun and unique one night stay!
Sorry, not greatest photo!

We stayed 1 night for the experience & everything was fine with the pods etc. good experience. However I used the free unsecured wifi & woke up with a ~hundred of junk e-mails / subscriptions to loads of websites to my previously clean e-mail.

I had to overnight in Launceston, leaving early the next morning. Thought the Pod Inn proved just about perfect for my needs, starting with the very reasonable tariff. It was my first stay in a pod and possibly won't be my last, though I think staying more than two days would test the friendship. My sleep quality was great but I could imagine things could get a bit claustrophobic after a couple of nights. Otherwise, check-in was good, everything well explained. Pod itself was lockable, comfy, roomy for one and I loved the lighting options. Noise wasn't a problem, though maybe I was lucky on that count. The kitchen was clean if a little small while the common room/dining area more spacious. Common bathroom was clean when I visited but could imagine it becoming pretty grungy. The showers were really good, though. Towels supplied but not soap (or shampoo etc).

Loved the privacy of my own pod. They are surprisingly spacious and many colours of ambient lighting to choose! Good kitchen and bathroom facilities, all very cleanly. Secure lockers and ability to easily self check in after hours.

We stayed here for MONA FOMA and just needed something cheap and central. Having grown up in Launceston and moved away years ago we were surprised there was a capsule hotel in our little town but were thrilled.

The good:
- pods great, good size, clean linen, ability to control temperature, colour etc. lockers are provided and a good size.
- location is about as central as it gets in Launceston
- staff polite and efficient
- pods spotless. Shared facilities relatively clean. Hairdryer in the bathroom and space to get ready.
- kitchen area spacious and containing the essentials

To improve:
- bathrooms have a bad smell about them. It’s obviously a plumbing thing and we all agreed it was something they needed to look into. It would drift into the kitchen area as well which was off-putting.
- only 2 toilets and 3 showers in the women’s bathrooms. It seemed to work as there was little traffic despite being full - that could be luck and I could see it being an issue. Same in the men’s apparently.
- no bottle openers? Bit crazy. That’s a basic thing. It may be to discourage drinking - but this is Tasmania - they even sell water with lids needing them these days!

Friend left his card in his locker after hours and the guy came to help without complaint. Check out as easy as putting the card in a letterbox.

No frills, easygoing and suitable for multiple types of travellers.

Overall - great value for money and we will be staying there again if we head back.

This was something of a last resort after everything was booked out in Launceston due to a festival, but turns out that was a blessing in disguise!

Staff were great and very thorough on how to use the pod and its facilities. The desk is only manned until 8pm but after hours access is very straight forward.

The pod itself was fantastic, surprisingly spacious with many easy-to-use functions, charging stations, safes, etc. Lockers on site for larger luggage which are included in the price and all accessible with the same keycard.

I didn't find the pod very well soundproofed, so it might not be ideal for light sleepers, but this really wasn't an issue with me.

Overall, excellent value, a real novelty, and even better location! Will definitely be back.

I totally loved my stay at the Pod Inn!!

Pros
- Walkable to most major sites.
- Short walking distance to groceries, restaurants, and stores
- Has a restaurant beside/attached to (?) the hostel
- Pods are private and spacious (and I'm a big guy!) Bed was cozy too!
- Lights and air conditioning adjustable inside the pods
- Place has wifi
- Has a charging station for phones inside the pods
- Common area has kitchen

Cons
- Reception is only open during business hours, so might be difficult to contact anyone outside those hours
- Luggage locker is outside
- Pods not too soundproof

Over all I never thought I'd love staying at a pod hotel and I'm very happy that I had a wonderful experience with Pod Inn Launceston!
