Great location, right next to Civic Theatre. Music on in the garden on a Sunday afternoon but not too loud that when in room it’s deafening. No parking on site but we street parked nearby on Sunday afternoon (free on Sunday) then paid only for an hour on the Monday morning - 5 minute walk. Clean big rooms, new bathrooms, balcony good size and overlooked courtyard. Restaurant bistro awesome and really wonderful choice of beers on tap. Will stay here again, thanks team Clarendon. Your staff are also brilliant!

Pros:
Excellent location to the heart of Newcastle
Tram stop 200 mtrs up the road
Room was well spaced out, clean and modern
Bathroom was modern & clean
Couldn't hear the noise from outside and room was above major road
Friendly staff
Parking station 5 mins walk
Price for room was good value
Cons:
No on site parking
No close parking to drop of the bags
Noisy from the hallway outside the room and other doors closing
Master lighting switch was behind the bed and turned off. Struggled to find
A/C very noisy

We didn't have any food as we were here for a wedding. We will use again though.

Yes the Clarendon Hotel is adequate but 4 star it is not.
Our room very clean however the shower area, notably the screen was looking sad and needing replacing.

The grout between the tiles could do with a steam clean.
The toilet would only shut off when you left your finger on the button and the 1/2 flush button in the textured part was quite grotty.
The pillows need replacing they are all but flat and I woke with a sore upper back due to no support from the pillow.
The bed mattress is very comfortable and ignoring the fact my back ached I did have a reasonable sleep.
There is plenty of storage available, more so that we have found in more expensive accommodations.
The room was quiet however if you want a view then forget it. The cheap perspex installed to act as a cheap version of double glazing is foggy and the outside window are dirty as is the gap between the window and the perspex.
The room itself did not show massive wear and tear and the walls look like they may have been painted in more recent times.

I would stay here again if I really had to but I think it needs a bit of love and that love would mean they could command a higher price for the room.

Hopefully when it is sold the new owners will add some fresh life into the hotel as it is perfectly located and little would need to be done to bring it up to a more 4 star level.

We stayed here as we had a wedding to attend at a nearby hotel.

Lily at reception is a gem and was very helpful throughout the whole process.

The food was great and the drinks were reasonably priced. The bar staff were friendly also.

The hotel is a little dated but reasonably clean and the room was a good size.

I am a cleaner so I am probably a bit more fussy than some but I did find the bathroom needed more attention. The shower screens hadn’t been cleaned properly and some of the wall tiles needed going over and the tiles around the basin area could do with a good wipe over also.

There is no parking on site and the parking station is about a 7 min walk but you can get your parking ticket validated at the hotel so it was $20 overnight.

Would recommend for those on a budget and wanting to be in the central area of Newcastle without stretching the budget.

We would definitely stay there again.

Went to have dinner in the city and decided to stay so we could enjoy our night and have breakfast the next day. Its location is very convenient to local restaurants/ waterfronts and the well-priced parking on Argyle street.

The staff were very helpful and nice, the room was spacious and the bathroom was very clean.

our room had a balcony that went over the bars mezzanine and while the soundproof glass did cut down a lot of the noise from the outside bar it was still too loud to go to sleep ( and i like listening to music to sleep) - it is a bar so just be aware of this on weekends.

The mattress in the room we were in was sunken and very uncomfortable but this could be just that room due for an update.

We stayed one night on a quick business trip to Newcastle. Our room at the back of the hotel was quiet and very comfortable. Staff were lovely and we were reassured by strict covid-19 safety protocols. We ate in the bistro downstairs and both enjoyed the wonderful slow cooked lamb shoulder. Parking was easy and the location is great for walks along the harbour, or to grab a coffee or meal nearby. We will stay again.

Keeley booked us in a smarty and friendly way. She was very helpful. The room was comfy and of a very good standard. We ate at the hotel and the food was great. We also took advantage of the happy hour from 4 -6 PM. The location was ideal in the centre of town and the recommended carpark was under cover and we paid for the parking when we paid for the room, which was easy.

Me and my husband stayed at the clarendon a little over a month ago now. The room was spacious, very clean and had everything you needed for a weekend stay. The staff were extremely helpful and nothing proved too much trouble. Their recommendations on where to eat/drink were superb and definitely made our first trip to Newcastle a memorable one. A shame there is no parking available at the actual hotel but the car parking station recommended by the hotel is only a short walk away and quite good value (especially compared to Sydney prices) Will definitely consider staying again on our next visit!

The Clarendon may not look as classy as some hotels from the outside but step out of the lift and into your room and the world changes.
Obviously refurbished, my room was modern and spacious and the bathroom bright and clean.
Because I arrived late, I was welcomed by a pleasant and courteous member of the bar staff who was expecting me and directed me to my room.
I found the day reception staff friendly and equally helpful with answers to my queries.
A popular restaurant on the mezzanine floor provides an exciting menu to dine in guests or will deliver to your room.
Would I stay at the Clarendon again? Dam sure I would, without looking at anything else.

Very happy with my stay, room was clean and spacious. Staff were friendly. Was an easy walk to everywhere we wanted to go, Civic Park, Darby Street, Honeysuckle. Parking as recommended by the staff in Arygle Street was an easy walk to the Clarendon and undercover. Would definitely stay there again on my next night out in Newcastle.
