First impressions were a bit of a disappointment. However, with a realistic outlook, we would definitely stay here again. While the location is not in the glitzy part of town, it is only a block from Honeysuckle and far cheaper than other properties with a Honeysuckle address. The room was fairly basic, but had everything we needed. The fridge was small but kept things cold and was blessedly free from minibar clutter. The onsite security parking was excellent value compared to onstreet parking which is all metered. Our room faced the street but was still very quiet. 4 pillows on the bed instead of three would have been nice ... but we could have asked for an extra one. The mattress was the most comfortable of any hotel I have stayed in over many years of travel. Staff were friendly and helpful.

I stayed there almost 3 to 4 nights a week over close to a year... had the opportunity to upgrade to more expensive hotels but always stayed there.
The staff is absolutely amazing, super friendly and personable.
Rooms are very simple, not necessarily top quality but enough for a good sleep, clean and relatively quiet.

Pleasant enough room for the price and location it is my go to in Newcastle I really only use the hotel to sleep.

Long stays I would not recommend as the room is very basic however if you are after something for one or two nights it is clean and reasonable enough. It has an ironing board, hairdryer and a mini fridge (empty just milk) and tea and coffee facilities.

The rooms are dated some of the desk panels are lifting. I assume this is from water damage from the kettle as you have limited PowerPoints.

Those that like to charge your phone by your bed unless you have a long cable charger I recommend packing an extension cord as there is no PowerPoints by the bed just up by the window and of course in the bathroom.

You do feel like you are on a cruise ship when in the bathroom and you need to step up into the bathroom
The staff were adequate at check in not over the top friendly. acknowledgement of names goes a long way for me. They did keep some gifts behind the counter for me to save me taking them up to the room then back down again which was nice.

I am a member of Accor and I received my complimentary welcome drinks although they did forget the second drink which I found strange as we were the only two people in the bar or the lobby.
Also Received two complimentary waters and some shortbread cookies.

Breakfast was good coffee took a while to come out again I was the only one in the restaurant so not sure what was happening that my food arrived before my coffee did maybe they were busy with checkout. I could not see from where I was sitting. I attached a copy of the available breakfast menu in the photos.

What a great little stay! Just because the Ibis isn’t a five star hotel, doesn’t mean they can’t have five star service! The service here is brilliant! I was passing through town for a night and booked a room at the hotel. My ‘requests’ from my online check in email were granted and I was even able to check in a couple of hours early.

The rooms, in fact the property is old but that’s ok. The rooms are small but the bed was comfy and the shower was hot with excellent pressure. The wonderful lady from housekeeping even popped by to drop off a bottle of water and a chokkie brownie! How good is that!

Breakfast the next morning had the basics but it was fresh and hot. Again, what more could one ask for.

A great stay :)

This was our second stay here. Check in was prompt, the room was very clean, facilities are fine.

The only recommendation I can make is providing hand towels in the bathroom and maybe make the restaurant area more appealing. It’s very stark and unwelcoming.

But in saying that I would definitely stay again.

Having stayed at an Ibis in Sydney a couple of times, we knew what to expect in terms of room size and inclusions and adjusted our expectations for Newcastle accordingly. The room could have done with an update but it was clean and quite adequate for our two night stay.
All staff we dealt with were friendly and helpful.
The only lift is rather small and four people made it seem crowded.

The hotel’s location is in what could be described as a seedy part of the city but is in easy walking distance to a large supermarket/shopping centre and a decent restaurant.

We are used to walking around cities but less mobile guests would probably want to drive. On site parking is available at an extra charge but is worth it as there doesn’t seem to be any other parking options nearby.

Walking in to the reception area was quite dark and dingy (later found out some down lights had gone out), had to pay for parking (car park not undercover nor overly secure as it is just closed off by a boom gate (so not the most secure parking). Walking up to the room there is a bit of a musty smell in the hallway. In the room it is very dates and looks quite rundown. Chips and marks on bench tops. Bathroom looks like something on a dated cruise ship, quite small and like a pod. Room features an iPod dock alarm clock, that is on the opposite side of the room to the bed and the “iPod dock” is for an iPod/phone from about 10 years ago, new phones won’t fit. Bed was comfortable but there was only 3 pillows on the bed and no extra pillows in the top of the wardrobe like you would expect. Shower had good pressure, toilet was very ominously hanging on the wall, it was nerve wracking sitting on it. No extra channels on the tv worked.
Close to the light rail station which came in handy getting to and from the centre of town.
For the price I’m not sure that we will be back.

Dear 853brookej, thank you so much for your feedback in regards to your recent stay with us. I am so sorry to hear the first impression was not the best, you had arrived just after Newcastle had gone through a really big storm and there were many power outages around, hence the lights and smell. In regards to the bathrooms, you will find this design in most ibis hotels around the world, if it does make you feel uncomfortable you might want to look at our other brands for more comfort, that's the same for additional amenities. We have removed a few things from the room as Covid precautions, but of course are happy to deliver extra pillows to the room. I am really sorry of the team did not let you know on check in. I am sorry we missed the mark this time, however appreciate your feedback and do hope to welcome you back in the future. All the best, Kim S General Manager

My evening arrival was greeted by an unmade-up room, a free drink that could not be satisfied with a stout/dark ale or zero alcohol option nor the usual gold level welcome gift. On day 2 the room was serviced - that is a trash bin was emptied. Nothing else. Housekeeping was not seen again.

Despite feedback two weeks ago about the rubberised scrambled eggs and poor clearing of dirty tables, nothing has changed. There are no side plates for toast or fruit servings. On the third day, in desperation, i asked for for a different type of egg - fried, poached, anything but overcooked scrambled and was told there would be an extra charge. No thanks, not this time or any time. I won't be back.

I recently stayed at this hotel for a 4 night stay. The hotel is located in a derelict part of the city with the adjacent buildings closed and some having large scaffolding across the front.

From the outside it looks fine however internally, it is well overdue for some serious maintenance. The check went well, with complementary drinks being offered on your first night. The staff were informative and polite. Having left the check in I was directed to the hotels only lift. (unfortunately this broken down the following day and guests had to use the fire escape stairwell to get to and from their rooms, although it appeared to be fixed the following morning) The left could have done with some serious cleaning as the floors were filthy and I reluctantly had to touch the dirty lift buttons. When I arrived on my floor I was greeted with carpets that were well worn and in dire need to being cleaninged. The walls of the corridor were very dated and the original colour of the paint had faded. On one of the electrical panels, insulation fluff was hangin out.

When I got to my room I was greeted by dried blood on the door handle. Although the room was made up, I am not sure as to the exact extent of the cleaning as I found a pair of thongs (jandals) in my room that had been discarded or left behind by the previous occupant. The room would have been tight for two occupants. of note there is little insultaton between the walls and conversations and televisions can be heard from the adjacent rooms.

The bathroom was small and they have tried to maximise the space by making it almost circular. The hotel supplied its own hand/body wash in the shower and again basic fittings where throughout.

The hotel served it purpose for my trip, however I wont be staying there again unless it undergoes a massive updating.

Several times my dear late-wife and I stayed @ ibis Newcastle. I was happy to stay there again a few nights this week, one of those places you can feel at home.
I arrived early but was reassured my room was ready.
My vehicle was safely parked in a secure car-park at $15 per night.
From my welcome until my departure the staff are both professional and competent. Just what you need after a long journey! Friendliness too.
Hospitality and cleaning staff were both helpful and friendly.
Congratulations Manager, you've got a great team!
Would I wish for any more? not really, except maybe more power points in the room!
