I've travelled all over the world and this is without a doubt one of the coolest hostels I've ever stayed in. Came here on kiwi experience back in October, was sad to have only stayed one night. Friendly staff and a great little courtyard to chill out in hammocks with a book from the book exchange, clean homely kitchen with...

Spent a night at Bazils after getting off the Heaphy track. Really nice guys running the place and an awesome hostel to relax and recover. I've spent time in a lot of hostels and this one was certainly one of the best. Thanks for the stay!

I originally checked into this hostel for 2 nights. AND I LOVED IT so much that I booked 1 extra night ! First, I could easily park my car on the carpark right behind the hostel for free. I met Ray & Steve at the reception, they are beyond friendly, super funny, always smiling, they always have tips to give...

Rooms are nice and clean, kitchen is great. Staff is unfriendly and unhelpful and the "free" wifi does not work at all. You can connect to it, but there is no connection to the internet. Also be careful wirh the oven. It burns a pizza to coal in 8 minutes.

Hi mate, Our WiFi is fast free and unlimited, everyone says its awesome, maybe you should check your phone. I personally people are on them to much these days and its not good for you, so you should learn to talk to people anyway, maybe play some cards. Its also not our fault you cant cook mate, Sorry your mummy...

I was there for 1 night, paid $34 for bed in tiniest gloomiest room ever( it was 4bed dorm in the shed basically).Beds were so close to each other it was difficult to move around. Small kitchen and not enough shower/toilet facilities since it's a drop off point for 50-100 people from "kiwi experience"bus every day.

We stayed at Basils prior to riding the Ghost Road and after riding the trail. Basils provided a shuttle to and from the trail which was exellent. The room we stayed in, and all facilities, were clean and well appointed. Our whole experience at Basils was excellent and I would highly recommend it as a place to stay in Westport

A very busy sprawling funky hostel, with lots of interesting artwork decorating the walls. Our group stayed 2 nights before and after mt biking the old ghost road. We had private rooms, doubles and twins with shared bathrooms. The rooms and shuttle service for old ghost road are great value for money. Towels are provided and the bathrooms clean and...

Clean, comfortable and well run. Our own mistake for not realising that we had booked a room that was not ensuite, so we had to share the hostel facilities. The kitchen, bathroom area and TV room were very pleasant. Lots of viby happy youngsters. Plenty of parking avaiable.

We stayed here on honeymoon and i guess why it doesn't get 5 stars for me is that the walls are paper thin (or were in our room-12) so we could hear everything going on outside our room, regardless of volume. Other than that the atmosphere is nice, the place is beautifully painted and the surf lesson was great! We...

Generally had no issues with our stay here. Stayed as part of the Kiwi Experience tour for one night. This hostel is situated in town, a five minute walk away from the local supermarket and a few minutes from the local restaurants. It's certainly got character - lots of artwork and the staff were quirky too. They even have a...
