I must say that I absolutely disagree with Dries D. The stay at Hippo Lodge improved my Queenstown experience so much, especially because of the very helpful and lovely managers and staff! They are honest people and look after the place with dedication. Also, I found that whenever I had questions, requests, etc. I've received help/advice immediately, no matter what...

We stayed at hippos for 2 nights because the top 10 holiday park was full in popular Queenstown. If not we wouldn't have stayed here not even 1 night. The hippy owner charged us 50$ for our campervan per night just to stand on the steep parking spot in front of the hostel and to use their very basic facilities....

Views are awesome, place is homely and people is very nice, ask Mark one of the managers to show you all the best wine spots in Queenstown or what ever you need and he will definitely help you. As for the other manager, I try to reach him twice and never appear:( He has poor communication skills and I think...

A great place to stay at a great price. The hostel is situated on a hill, so the view of the lake and mountains is truly exceptional. When you wake up to it, you really do feel like you're in paradise. That is a feeling you don't get in other hostels I've stayed at in Queenstown. The manager is very...

Views from this hostel are amazing. Do note you have to walk up a very steep hill to get there from the centre - fine if you're fit enough! Parking is free but limited. Staff friendly. Room was basic and clean. Bathroom soap was disgusting and separated, plus there were hundreds of dead flies on the ceiling. Lounge and kitchen...

I don't usually stay in hostels and was a bit apprehensive about this one after seeing other reviews. We had a private room which was in a separate part to the dorms. Was a really good location as there were only two other private rooms in this part of the hostel,so very quiet. Presumably, the noise that other reviews refer...

We checked in with friendly and helpful staff, but were only there for several hours before we were searching for other accomodation (but unfortunately everything else was full because of the peak season) so we had to stay 4 of our planned 5 nights. The lodge is two old houses repurposed into a hostel, and it does have a haphazard...

We stayed there for 4 night, and the only good thing there was the from the reception (Mark if i'm not mistaken). The room we got was also nice. The kitchen was dirty, the lounge was dirty, the rest of the staff were unfriendly and just ignored us. didn't want to spend a minute in there, and we also ate...

The location was great with everything in Queenstown in walking distance. The staff was very nice and accommodating. The bathroom was a little smelly. Otherwise, this lodge was one of our better experiences during our trip in NZ and I would recommend it.
