We stayed for 2 nights here on out tiki tour of the lower south island. This YHA was clean and comfortable with good amenities. There was nothing really outstanding about this place. We noticed a number of young children running around screaming in the kitchen not being supervised properly, we do like kids to enjoy themselves but after a tiring day we don't want to hear this. The doors to the bedrooms are heavy and always close nosily, I couldn't work out how to shut the door without it locking when just popping to the bathroom etc. The lounge room floor creaked and you felt awkward walking into the room and disturbing people. I didn't find the staff overly friendly.

I have stayed here twice before, (1st stay a private room for 3 people, 2nd time a private single room) and been impressed with the location and facilities. This time I booked a single private room with shared bathroom facilities. Sadly this time I was placed right next door to the mens bathroom and had to listen to everyone walking down the hallway and banging doors in the night. As a female and a light sleeper I didnt get much sleep. Not happy. Will probably not want to stay again after this bad experience.

YHA Queenstown Lakefront is the best place to stay. Great accommodation, everything you could possibly need/want. The icing on the cake was the excellent staff. Could not have done anything more to make my stay as easy as possible, due to my having a dicky hip. So friendly and offered everything I needed without having to ask. I would stay there again whatever my budget and have already recommended it to several friends and will tell many more. Thanks very much!

Cannot believe how good this place was!... We ended up getting a private 8 bed dorm for 6 of us, the room itself got a little hot, but the staff quickly brought us a fan which helped massively. Toilets and showers were so well kept and the lounge, washing machines and drying rooms made the whole process so easy. Kitchen is absolutely huge and perfect if you plan to prepare you food there. But the staff were something else, unbelievably friendly and one lady even lent me 50c out of her own purse for the lockers, completely didn't need to do it but wanted to help me out!... An absolute gem! I will DEFINITELY be staying here again in future.
