Mitre peak lodge is a reincarnation of Elizabeth Sutherlands chalet built circa 1900's for 'weary' travellers. Its an old building which has been refurbished but still the 'old' remains and is evident as you approach and walk in the building. As soon as I walked in it reminded me of the Overlook Hotel out of the classic movie The Shining...

This was previously a TYHC government hotel and while it is a little tired, the food and drinks were good. The staff were quite helpful. Some type of internet access would have been helpful. GREAT VIEWS>

Stayed here for the last night of our Milford Track hike with Ultimate Hikes. Mitre Peak lodge rooms' were considerably more dated than the rooms at the other lodges on the Track. Ran out of hot water halfway through my bath, learnt later in the evening that the hot water boiler had broken down and the lodge staff were still...

Finish up the Milford Track here for a night. The Blue Cod was exceptional. The Oatmeal cookies are very good too as long as Kelly hasn't pocketed them all. Great breakfast in this nice quaint lodge. Rooms clean and the view was great. Rooms made available to non-hikers too.

Having turned up on spec, we were very lucky to get in here. The views and location are spectacular, the room we had was very good and the staff (particularly the manager) work like mad and are very helpful. Having looked in at Milford Lodge to do our cooking (not a nice experience) we were absolutely delighted at Mitre Peak...

This is in a stunning location and a private lodge for the Ultimate Hikes guided trips only. This lodge is in need of repair. The rooms were so hot that we had to sleep on the floor, we did try to open a window - but that invited the sandlies in. The radiator style heating in the room was unable...

We stayed here the night we finished the Milford Track, and then we spent a couple nights in the Milford Sound Lodge. We thought this was definitely the better of the two. Clean, very friendly staff, and great food. Not to mention - probably the best scenery out our bedroom that we've ever had. Highly recommend!

Not much here but a bed and shower which is fine when you are in Milford Sound. What a place! The lodge had great views of the sound and Mitre Peak from most of the rooms. A couple minute walk will take you right to the sound. Can't get over how spectacular Milford Sound is. They do have a bar,...

This 1960s hotel (not much has changed since then, I think) must be like the Overlook Hotel from the Shining in the winter, but it is clean, friendly and well run and most rooms look straight at Mitre Peak. Rooms are basic (not even TV) but perfectly comfortable, and breakfast good. Forget about cell phones or internet, and enjoy the...
