We stayed for two nights and were sad to leave, having felt very much at home, due in large part to the genuine interest that the staff take in their visitors. We can only endorse all the positive comments that previous reviewers have made - no negatives for us. I loved the building and our room. And we thought the...

Such a beautiful B&B ( converted old house ) to stay if you are visiting Dunedin !! The hotel feels super homie and the family who runs the hotel is really nice . Rod gave so many useful tips upon our arrival and we tried to cover most of them - we asked lot of questions and Rod helped us...

The Brothers Hotel is well situated, a 15 minute walk from the Octogon, the centre of town. Our room on the top floor had a balcony overlooking St. Joseph's Catholic Cathedral, and the city below. Clean airy bathroom, queen sized bed, just what we wanted in a city hotel. The morning continental breakfasts were perfect, with extra coffee provided for...

Nice building in a nice spot in Dunedin . Owner very nice and helpful with regards to places to eat etc and the complimentary wine was a nice touch . However we found the rooms small and dated ( not boutique ) and our room had a view of the car park or rear of the building . Not good...

Thank you Stuart for your kind remarks and I respect your views and accept that The Brothers does not suit everybody. I do feel however it is fair to add that all rooms cannot have a view, otherwise it would be a strange looking 1920’s building. If you had booked The Chapel or one of our 7 Balcony Queen rooms...

Our friends had stayed at The Brothers and they told us we 'just had to stay', and I'm glad they did. The history, charm and elegance of this historic building makes for a very relaxed and enjoyable stay. We were greeted by the owner who couldn't do enough for us, even to the extent of an invite to a 5...

This is a character hotel, be warned. The building was originally a monastery for the cathedral and school on the opposite side of the road. The conversion is tasteful and in keeping with the buildings history. Don't expect large rooms and hedonistic luxury! What you will get is a warm, tasteful and comfortable room with scrupulously clean ensuite shower/toilet. Sound...

We had 2 nights here, Ron the owner was extremely welcoming and helpful. Clearly knew his city well and gave us invaluable recommendations for places to visit. The bed was huge, with a a nice big bathroom too. Excellent shower, but no bath, which suited us. Breakfast was fresh and plentiful, along with helpful advice from his assistant. I would...

Gorgeous little place to stay. Authentic and beautifully restored. Owners were amazing - friendly couple who helped us with local directions and sites. Great way to start our holiday. Very comfortable bed, exceptionally clean rooms, on-site parking and so accommodating with breakfast (I'm gluten free).

We had never been to Dunedin and stayed two nights at The Brothers Boutique Hotel. The hosts were fantastic and made us feel very welcome. The room was impeccably clean and maintained to a level that many hotels would envy and aspire to. Rod and Shelley are knowledgeable and articulate proprietors who take real pride in their work and are...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Welcome to a special place in Dunedin. Relax in our European style family run Boutique Hotel close to inner city amenities with spectacular views of the City and harbour. Extensive renovations have been done to this former Christian Brothers 1920's stately residence transforming it into elegant heritage accommodation with 15 bedrooms and all with modern tiled en suites. The Brothers offers a mixture of convenience, history, charm, elegance and tranquillity, with the building retaining much of its original grandeur. Unfortunately the Hotel is unsuitable for infants, babies and young children under 16 and can't be accommodated. The Brothers is also quite different from anything else in Dunedin. The intention during the refurbishment was to be sympathetic to the building's history and wherever possible the original character has been retained. As a result most of our rooms are of a size often found in European Cities and maybe considered small by some. If room size is important to you or the prospect of walking 10 minutes uphill from the city centre is a daunting issue then other options maybe more suitable for you . A welcoming drink is offered early evening in the main Guest lounge. Book direct with us for better price and room options. ... more   less
