I wasn't thrilled with the manager of this hotel. I asked three times for a heater for my bedroom because it was so cold but it didn't come. Otherwise, it's not a bad location, central and close to the city. Traffic noise is a bit of an issue if you're a light sleeper. It's an old hotel and could do... More

The staff are reluctant to help. Everything is too difficult. Even the small stuff like asking directions is a challenge. It seems like too much trouble. The building itself is alright, kind of an old style, though a bit cold inside the rooms, especially in the morning.

Definitely a great place to stay, comfortable, staff is fantastic and the price is great. Great room, nice and clean. Very highly recommended. I've stayed here a few times in the past and it's always consistent and hassle free.

This hotel is in a historical building from the early 1900’s, and still retains some of its grandiosity in patches. However, beyond the occasional historical décor, the hotel itself is not particularly attractive for a number of reasons. Reception was prompt, but without any form of warmth, greeting or even information. Just a “here is your key, you are on... More

I stayed here 1 night in a budget backpacker twin room. It was a little outdated but it was comfy, the beds fine and an en suite to myself. Again small but for $60 I'm not complaining. It was a little outdated but I think that added to the character of this place, I don't think it would be the... More

We chose this as it was opposite the Early Otago Settlers' Museum and that was where we were to visit with two elderly parents, one in a wheelchair and the other with a walker. We were not expecting a lot from a place referred to as "genteel" but were pleasantly surprised. Although old and creaky, with some odd noises coming... More

We just spent three nights in this hostel,, and globally that was ok, the room was clean, and bathroom as well, the kitchen could be way better, as it was really small and not easy for cooking. The only problem for my friend and I was the last night, I still dnt undertand why the staff would put a 50... More

This is the best location to the Railway station after riding the vintage train from Pukerangi after the ORT. An easy short walk to city centre. Massive meals for dinner. Full of character and enjoying restoration. But I have to mention the man behind the desk for his most helpful & clear instructions or directions of whatever we asked. He... More

I agree with "rude and filthy" we stayed at a busy time and the older gentleman was abrupt and condescending -just a little politeness would have changed this review as the building is full of character if old and needing upgrading plumbing - wise - but this is why you go there -not a nice stay -feel like I should... We stayed at this hotel for three nights. It is very convenient for the centre of Dunedin, only a few minutes walk from the famous railway station and directly opposite the Settlers Museum. Although some of the carpets and furnishings were a little tired the rooms were very comfortable and spotlessly clean. The staff were very friendly, helpful and courteous.... More
