Detailed Reviews
I booked a compact apartment as it was on the ground floor as I couldn't manage the stairs, plus the price was reasonable. It's also a very rare place to stay that is easily accessible by foot to public transport (less than 10 mins to the bus interchange) and only a few minutes to 2 supermarkets, ie cheap food. If you don't drive, or have access to a car, these are things that have to be considered. The room was perfectly adequate for a single person, I think a couple would find it hard with the double bed being up against the window. Great shower, and the kitchenette with microwave, mini-fridge/freezer, and toaster meant being able to save some money on meals. The downside to sharing a room with a fridge is the noise they make, so if you're a light sleeper then you might want some earplugs. These rooms don't have A/C but they have a fan, and the windows open slightly. I'm not sure I'd want to be there during a heatwave. Bed extremely comfortable. The reception staff were very welcoming and helpful when I had a request. While the location is excellent, as a single female I wouldn't walk alone in that area after dark, but have made that same risk assessment in a number of cities. I will definitely stay there again. (Tip: there's a bus stop for the No.3 bus just a block over, closer than the interchange. That bus goes to Sumner beach, botanical gardens, hospital and the airport. Saves a walk :)

We were stuck in Christchurch because Vigin Australia lost our bags and didn't communicate with us on the status... so limbo. We stayed at Southwark as a last minute arrangement and not how we planned to spend our honeymoon. Our room was very clean, new, tidy and comfortable. Fantastic location, directly across the road from Little High Eatery and quite central to shops and other dining.
To the ladies, the shower water pressure 100%, hair washing quality.
The room does have a notice about late checkouts, which is read to be accomodating and complimentary... however when you ask reception for a late checkout, you may get half an hr complimentary, but any more does not come without a cost.

We stayed here for a couple of nights. We arrived early morning and were able to drop our bags off while we went out sightseeing. The staff at reception were very friendly and helpful. The room itself was quite small with 2 single beds, bathroom and kitchenette. Although small, the room was clean, tidy and modern. It was a wee bit noisy as our room was located above the carpark, but otherwise was very comfortable. The location was very good as we were within walking distance from the main center of town.

Southwark Apartments giving you 1 star is actually 1 star too many. To all potential guests who are considering staying here, I would absolutely reconsider. The value for money is appalling, and the management are even worse. We stayed there on the first night of our holiday, and were due to stay there on a final night 2 weeks later. Unfortunately during the recent COVID-19 pandemic our government raised the travel advice level that all Australians should return home. We cancelled our holiday 5 days early, EVERY other hotel refunded us in full. They were empathetic, and understood the challenging circumstances that not only us, but all travellers were facing. Southwark Apartments however? Horrendous understanding of current conditions and displayed absolutely zero care. In-fact their response was border line malevolent and through their actions have demonstrated that they lack the ability to provide any aspect of customer services and hold no value towards their corporate social responsibility; which they clearly don’t have. Stay way from Soutwark Apartments, unless you enjoy poor quality, arrogant management, and paying too much. My advice would be to spend the night in a prison, you’ll have a better experience. I award this Southwark Apartments 0 stars, 0/10 and a massive F. Shame on you, I’ll be telling absolutely anyone who will listen how shocking you are.

Our room was small and compact but modern, clean with a nice bathroom and the beds very comfy. The price was very reasonable and the place is ideal for a 1-2 night stay as it is only a short walk into Christchurch City centre and near the bus thermal. There is a very nice coffee shop next door. Staff were very pleasant with 24 hour manned reception. Threre was also a nice small balcony with table and chairs for a beer after a days site seeing.

I stayed for one night as I was attending a concert close by. I was pleasantly surprised by the room. The rooms are reasonably compact (small to medium size and suitable for 1 or 2 people) which was absolutely fine for my needs. Shower was great. Room was modern, clean and tidy. Great value for money for Christchurch CBD. Plus some excellent bars and restaurants within 5 minutes walk or so. CBD is 10-15 minutes flat walk. Parking is additional ($10 per night and must be pre-booked). Check-in and out was fine.

Me and my partner stayed here for 2 nights and it was very nice. I booked at 12pm for the same day and turned up at 2pm with no problem. Staff were friendly and didn't bother us which was nice. Our room had no table or any chairs, the room needs somewhere for you to eat your food that's not on the bed.
Thank you.
Thank you.

Whilst rooms are clean but surprisingly small … and I coped with that …should have read reviews prior to booking and paying on arrival.
Do not be here on a Friday or Saturday night. The single glazed windows do not stop the noise of a night club/ pub a block away. From 7pm there was no quiet as an annoying background bass noise grew and grew. Awful.
It matched experience on ground floor … building A I think …where the cleaning staff woke me at 6:30 by having a voluble discussion in staff room… 4 or 6 rooms away…
Didn’t impress me as I had been woken at 2am by a persistent pest trying to enter my room… easy as the auto external “wing” door hadn’t been “locked” at 10 pm when I returned from a night out. Given apparent free entry I didn’t want to open door as there was
no safety chain… and no peep hole to suss who was out there. As a rather large male I was scared… cos at 2 who try’s and try’s again??
Getting back to the single glaze windows… and I’m assuming they are as bed thrust against them… the chill awful. Used the pillows to try and stop the breeze coming through.
Won’t mention the idiocy of parking… other than their site is crap. An email to apartment direct never answered. But didn’t care as ample parking outside.. and remember a blue parking limitatation sign is only valid from 9 am to 6 pm… weekdays as per road code.
Overall stay was good…but not from Friday through Saturday the noise is awful. And stop cleaning staff having a party before 8 please.

Excellent tranquil location , with multiple size apartments set around a central quadrangle of garden with outdoor seating.. A functional kitchen allows for self catering with a supermarket close by or enjoy meals from varied cuisine restaurants all within walking distance. A 10 minute walk to the major shopping centre plus bus terminal makes for a great central setting. A laundry is also available for guests withing the complex.

A fantastic accommodation option in Christchurch, Southwark stands out as an excellent choice. Its strategic location, only a 10-minute walk from the central shopping and sightseeing areas, combines the convenience of proximity with a peaceful ambiance. The surroundings offer tranquility, with supermarkets nearby for added convenience. Southwark impresses with its modernity, cleanliness, and remarkable value for money. Guests can enjoy the luxury of daily room servicing, and the presence of a superb cafe adjacent to the premises, caters to all breakfast and lunch needs, enhancing the overall experience. Southwark was the start point to my fabulous tour of the South Islands!

You must pre book and u must be quick I thinks it’s around $10
Yes there is. I think laundry facilities are pretty much a standard service for hotels or apartments in NZ
