Detailed Reviews
Very impressed with this place, everything is quite old but you can tell it's been looked after. It was nice to have a separate area to watch TV instead of just having a Studio!
Only thing that really lets this down is its location - Christchurch is much bigger than we anticipated! We walked around the CBD & botanical gardens for hours, and didn't feel like we did much. Though, due to the earthquake, there isn't much going on in Christchurch at the moment. The only place we could find for drink/food on foot was the Speights just over the road, they do good food and drink, but if you're stopping here it might be worth using public transport or getting a bus just to go somewhere that has something going on.
It was odd walking around the CBD, we saw the ReStart mall, which is the shops from the crippled inaccessible CBD set up in shipment containers! Interesting.
We are going back in a couple of days before we go home, and going back to Speights for another feed, if you do go to Speights you need to book as it's very popular!

This is a good old fashioned motel, located on the Bealey Ave strip. Very easy to find.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, and allowed us to check-out a little late, which was very kind.
We booked a two-bedroom unit that sleeps four.
It was a well-equipped room. Everything we needed in the kitchen, a good sizeable bathroom, an extra heater. Lots of spare blankets and pillows. And there was free wifi, which while the allowance seemed small, I’m sure the staff would have given us more if we’d asked. Also, it had a dining table that we could all sit around for meals. The room was relatively quiet, despite being right next to a main road.
However, it was a very small space. Beds for 4, but only enough lounge seating for 2. The others needed to perch on uncomfortable plastic chairs. Also in the bathrooms there were only enough 2 hooks for towels.
There were hardly any power points for laptops or phone chargers. In fact, in the kitchen, you could only plug in 2 of the 3 appliances (microwave, toaster, kettle) at one time.
Despite the negatives, it was a pleasant stay. The staff were nice, the room was well equipped and we got a good sleep.

The room was advertised as a studio appartment. This turned out to be a shoe box with no room to swing a cat let alone two adults with luggage. There was no room service or cleaning and no replenishment of tea , coffee and milk. There appeared to be no foresight that we were booking this from UK and therefore would need ample room for our luggage. It was not good value for what resulted in minimal accommodation.
It is on the outskirts of the city so about 20 mins walk. The facilities in our room were limited to a fridge only. There was no laundry room.
The proprietor said she was full the first night but could upgrade us the following night. However we saw their roadside sign said vacancies and it was not worth the upheaval to upgrade for one more night which I suspect she knew would be our response.

The Studio room is poorly kitted out, a small bar fridge placed on an old desk in the corner, the kettle could not be plugged in from the desk as the cable is too short. No plates, knives or forks and glasses available. Although they advertise that "rooms have cooking facilities", the studio has nothing, not even a Microwave.

Very small family unit that was poorly maintained. Hole in a bedroom door, no light in the toilet, spiders and webs in the bathroom, mouldy shampoo packets, broken power switch in one bedroom, shonky paint patch ups, and one bedroom door doesn't align with the door frame. Very poor value for money (stayed in much nicer motels in Christchurch for less). Pleasant host and comfortable beds with clean sheets, however. Would never stay here again.

The motel is well located and has ample parking space. The manager and staff were very friendly and efficient. We had Unit Five, upstairs, at the far end of the motel and away from the street. The lounge was nicely furnished and also had a single bed; the bedroom had a queen size bed and a large closet; the kitchen area was large enough to have a table and chairs and was well supplied; the shower stall, vanity and toilet each had its own separate area which was very convenient. All areas were extremely clean and nicely furnished The motel has a hot tub which was frequented by many of the guests. Just a block away from the motel is a Speights Ale House where we had excellent meals at very reasonable prices.
We can highly recommend this motel. Great value for the price we paid.

One of the worst places I have stayed. Old frayed curtains carpets minimal cleaning. Hot noisy. Hard old beds. Horrible. No soap minimal towels. Scary stairs to upstairs level. Powerpoints in all the wrong places. No room in the bathroom. You can't dry your hair in front of any mirror as no power point.

We stayed there in a family of 9 persons(included 2 old folks & 1 child) & booking made thru booking.com. When we arrived, there is no booking made for one of the two bedroom. The owner simply offer another room right opposite the hotel but the room were even suck & his attitute were terrible(maybe because we are asean??). This is the worst stay i ever had in my NZ trips even is just ONE night(that is my last night stay in NZ), their room are too small and not comfortable for family stay. Once enter the room there is one kingsize bed at your living area?? and another seperate bedroom. Is not value for money!!!!

Well you don't want to stay here. Trust me. Try the Commodore it's just up the road from airport 😉 beautiful place with indie pool bar restaurant. Cheaper than this over priced joke. 👍 Steve
