Yes, good location, yes, free parking BUT communal areas are dirty and have an unsavoury odour. Beds are just about clean. I would not recommend a single female to stay here. Only stay here if you are really really desperate.

Yep it's old, but the house is amazing it has outside stairs that go from ground to upstairs ! Was solo-travelling there for one night and it was awesome ! I couldn't find anywhere to stay in Wellington and they just save me from sleeping outside. Got the cheapest bed (24NZD) in a mix-dorm, it was clean and I felt... More

It was a busy time in Wellington for backpacker hostels so I got stuck with Rowena's. It is the cheapest rate for a bed at just $25 for a dorm but you get what you pay for here. Where to begin? The staff are rude or weird or usually both. There are long term renters who are even stranger and... More

My partner and I stayed at Rowenas Lodge for three nights in our campervan. $17 each/night. For cheap, city centre location and absolutely basic facilities... stay here. With the overall rating, you know what type getting yourself into. Plain and simple. You should not expect anything amazing or luxurious. Expect backpacker central. Since we did not stay in the rooms,... More

Where do I start........it's actually like a homeless shelter. The location is miles out from town. The rooms are absoloutely filthy, along with the showers, toilets etc. The residents are noisy and shouting all through the night. Other guests have no consideration at all. Someone was up at 3am blow drying their hair and with paper thin walls, you could... More

Don't believe the hype, it is neither comfortable nor casual nor for VIPs. The lack of fresh paint, stains on the carpet, and general air of neglect should warn you off. We had no choice, we had pre-booked, and Wellington was sold out. There was no lighting on the steps or driveway although the steps had been waterblasted recently. A... More

Only reason we chose this place was because it's location, in region of Mount Victoria, in the city of Wellington. However, it still wasn't close enough where we wanted to get to, (museum, weta studio, botanic garden - still have to drive for all those) not in walking distance to anything. On top of that, it's placed on top of... More

As a single female traveller, I did not feel safe here. The bad feeling started when I saw the sign on the street. It was old and faded and had graffiti on it. A bad start if the owners can't even be bothered cleaning up the sign. The place is very old and run down. My room was clean, but... More
