I stayed 3 nights at Cactus Jacks and a friend also joined me. Paul the manager was awesome, as was Mae. Both were regularly on hand with ideas of what to do, where to go, what activities were better than others etc. The hostel was clean and tidy with wicked decor. I would highly recommend it to anyone!

I stayed 4 nights at Cactus Jacks i researched it before travelling but its reviews hard still difficult to assess a place. There is always someone who thought the place was terrible. The service at CJs can not be beaten, they are always around and can book trips and organised discounts and deals for many sights. The got me a...

My son, 20, and I stayed there for one night. Just to see the front of the house made me happy - a "very" yellow house with "Backpackers Cactus Jack" and with a mexican man painted on the top and a lot of big cactuses in the flowerbed. The doors to the rooms, after having passed the kitchen, were all...

We stayed at Cactus Jack for 2 nights and when we arrived, the guy from reception (sorry darling, forgot your name, haha) gave us A LOT of useful information, including thinking budget-wisely. He even gave us a discount on a tour :) !! Although we broke his computer twice, he helped us out by repairing the computer at the spot!...

I stayed in a twin room here with a travel friend I had met. The room was barely big enough to hold our packs, but we made it work. I wish there had been something, anything, to hang wet towels and wet clothing on though, as it was a very rainy day. The toilets and showers could use some work...

I found this hostel walking down the street. Nobody a the reception, I didn't ring and just poped in for a look : very nice and friendly decoration, pleasant and clean common areas, original organization of the building, it's like a little mexican stylised village ! I thought "that would do for tonight if I stay in town". I came...

Positives: Relatively cheap, good location and friendly guy on reception who was more than happy to reccommend good things to do around Rotorua and gave us a discount on an activity we booked. They also let us leave our luggage at reception after we checked out and waited for our afternoon coach which was nice. Negatives: This place is in...

Myself and my bf had the displeasure of staying here for one night in late October. I chose it bcos it was close to the bus stop where we were dropped and we had a quick nights stopover before heading to taupo. We stayed in a double room with shared bathroom. The room and the entire hostel is filthy, run...
