Off the bat, for those who have a thing for quirky....a hostel fashioned like an old western town is worth your time. The rooms are designed like an old fashioned western town with bank, saloon, sheriff's office. The rooms and toilets are simple and moderately clean. Huge kitchen is a plus.

The hostel smell like an old man who smoked for a really long time. No sofas or a place to sit or hang out at that was in a good condition. And the kitchen seemed to be a home for mice not a place to cook.

We came by 5 people and given the dorm for 8 people for us. It was good deal, pay for 5 only, but it was in the low season after summer season, so not surprise plenty of rooms available. It is good location in the mid of Rotorua. The backpacker was OK, just average, clean and affordable, share bathroom and...

Rooms are very basic, but you get what you pay for We were very impressed by the cleanliness - both kitchen and bathrooms were always spotless for the 3 nights we were there. The showers were the best we found in a while. Only downside is that there is a charge for wifi

This place is noisy and busy just like Rotorua - city famous for tourism. The room is very small, with 3 bunk beds for 6 people, and it always has the smell of wet clothes. Walls are so thin that you can hear everything people say if they are in front of your room. Noise and shaking beds only allow...

The place is really good. The price is far enough and cheapest than other, such as YHA and Base. The rooms are warm and the bathrooms are clean. What gives charm to the place is the painting, with the engravings. The kitchen closes a bit early, at 9:30 pm and closes for a time at noon, in a very inconvenient time....

I have to say that I could not really enjoy my stay at Cactus Jack. There were some people who were kind of living there and they had a lot of really loud arguments in the courtyard at inappropriate times (e.g. at 7 in the morning and as the walls are thin, you can here EVERY SINGLE WORD). The rooms...

Very friendly reception and friendly staff who are always up for a chat. Rooms were alright. Dorms had a locker to store your bags although there is only one main power socket for everyone in the 8-bed dorm. I was on the top bunk which made a bit of noise whenever I move but the annoying thing was the ceiling...

I chose this hostel originally because it was the cheapest one I could find and I was so glad I did because I had a great experience there. I stayed for a week and met some cool people, and was delighted by the friendly staff. The hot pool is great and the showers are nice and warm. The beds are...

I couldn't believe this was a tripadvisor backpacker's. The kitchen is poorly (!) equipped, the bathrooms are like festival bathroom stalls, the showers are dark and cold and without any place to put you clothes (witch you will have to bring with you into the stall, since the bathrooms are in the corridor). The kitchen smells weird and the place...
