This is an old heritage building, so allow for some things that are not equivalent to a modern hotel. The ambience is true to its age and time and the hotel is well decorated and laid out, indeed very warm and cozy. If you are staying for a few days do yourself a favour and book the Marvelly Suite. This...

We got a good deal on this hotel foe one night. It was a lovely hotel . Friendly staff, good room very clean. My only very small gripe is that the coffee offered at breakfast was from those large thermos containers, rather than a fresh coffee . However when requested I was given a good fresh coffee. I would recommend...

This hotel is over 120 years old. The white frame gingerbread trim sets the tone. Interiors are beautiful both on public spaces and rooms. Our room even had a chandelier. Government Park can beseen from the hotel. The tourist info center is a block away. Could not ask for more.

This historic hotel had a clean, comfortable, and spacious bed area, a very small bathroom, and unfortunately no screens or air conditioning as the room was very stuffy. Hotel will benefit from some renovation planned in 2017. Staff were very friendly. Great location, easy to walk to a large number of restaurants.

The hotel is beautiful ,old NZ colonial style and full of character. Stayed with two adult children and had a suite. It was very spacious, clean, charming and very comfortable. Lots of chandeliers, comfortable sofas and ornate drapes etc. There is nothing cheap or plastic about this hotel. It is close to all the best restaurants, walks and lovely gardens....

Just stayed here one night. We stayed in the Thomas Chapman room which was clean but incredibly cramped and awkward to navigate. The bathroom was also very small by NZ standards. We were on the ground floor, it was very noisy and we didn't sleep well. Didn't feel secure to have window open as facing main road, so were also...

The room itself was great - clean, spacious, beautiful decor however the staff makes the place unwelcoming and i wouldnt go back for it. The front desk attendant got the job done (in terms of checking us in and handing over a key) but nothing friendly about his manner - i dont need a song and dance but a smile...

This is one of those instances where the overall experience of the stay was marred by a few isolated incidents. More on that later, I focus on the positives firsts. The property is genuinely charming and beautiful. The hotel has a distinctly royal feel to it with fireplaces and luxury chairs in lobby and an overall romantic feel to the...

Dear Lov L Thank you for your review. Your balanced comments are appreciated and have highlighted some areas we must improve immediately. I am pleased you enjoyed your accommodation. We are working hard to improve all our rooms, grounds and facilities. Approval has just be gained to install airconditioning units in all our apartments, suites and hotel rooms. Many of...

Well, this is an establishment that takes you right to the late 1800's, even here in little old 'brand new' New Zealand .. soft furnishings and fittings are mind-blowing. There is elegance and ambience pervading every second you spend in this hotel. It was built in 1987 when Queen Vic was still on the throne lol. Every room is equipped...

I tried to book a room here but they had no vacancy. That's fine, but they were very rude about it and unhelpful. No suggestions for other hotels, no ability to use their wifi to search. All in all, very telling about how they treat people unless they see dollar signs.
