Centrally located traditional hotel. Staff couldn't have been more helpful. Special mention must be made of Sue on reception who was fantastic and helped me after my phone got wet by finding rice for me to put the phone in! Also Valerie in the restaurant remembered breakfast and coffee orders from our large group each day. Lots of little extras...

The staff from Reception to Housekeeping is friendly and eager to help. The building is old, but converted to a hotel in the 90s. It is quirky and old fashioned in a lovely way. The rooms are named after New Zealand birds and the keys are very old-fashioned. My room was very comfortable except for the bed. Needed a new...

Very quaint Art Deco hotel. One of the few original buildings left standing after the quake. Room was furnished in period style and was pretty comfortable. We were in town to meet up with friends so did not have an opportunity to sample the restaurant or bar, both of which looked nice. Two major gripes though..the refridgerater in the room was...

If you like "Old Fashioned" then this is the place for you. The whole town does have modern shops and restaurants but is very "art deco", if you're kind, outdated if you're not. The County is no exception, lots of wood panelling and dusty corners. Nice library with complimentary Port. Breakfast taken in the wine room was adequate with the...

We stayed for one night whilst heading north from Wellington to The Eastern Cape I loved this hotel from the moment we stepped out of the car. We were greeted warmly and able to park securely opposite for only $5 The whole place is so atmospheric and we really felt like we were back in time. So many great touches...

We were 2 ladies on an overnighter for work. We thought we'd try something different and booked into this "character"hotel. What a great idea. It was simply beautiful. Everything about this hotel speaks CLASS. There are only 18 rooms from what I remember and you are made to feel special from the moment you enter the premises. The lovely receptionist...

Our trip was a long weekend following our son playing cricket. We thought to treat ourselves with a stay at the County. We'd checked reviews, and they're good. Location can't be beat and the photos look great as well. But for the price there are some things that you need to be aware of. Firstly the decor is getting a...

We had a an overnight stay on Labour Weekend Monday - Napier was very quiet and dull, but the County Hotel made up for this. The staff were very welcoming and escorted us to our room - essential as the rooms are not numbered but named after native birds. This was a bit confusing if you came up another staircase...

You won't be disappointed if you choose to stay at the County Hotel in Napier. It's not on the main drag so is quiet but is only a brief walk from the city centre. On arrival we were warmly greeted, offered free parking, free wine tasting just across the road at the Wine Centre, 10% discount on any wine we...

What a pleasant surprise! This hotel is one block from the water, right in the heart of Napier. It is an older hotel but beautifully maintained. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Winner of the Art Deco Supreme Award. The owners of Napier's County Hotel wished to combine the qualities and ambience of some of the finest hotels in the world. They have achieved this by incorporating fine service, fine dining and luxurious accommodation in line with 1930's Art Deco characteristics of Napier. The County Hotel is situated in the centre of Napier which is considered to be the 'Art Deco Capital of the South Pacific' and has captivated the emotions and senses of countless admirers. Originally built for the Hawke's Bay County Council in 1909, The County Hotel is one of only two significant buildings to have survived the massive 1931 earthquake. Faithfully refurbished as a boutique hotel, the County Hotel now stands as Napier's premier Hotel. The hotel is home to an extremely popular, multi award winning Wine Street Restaurant, the superb Churchill's Champagne Lounge, an intimate library, well-appointed function areas, conference facilities and eighteen luxurious guest rooms and offer a variety of accommodation packages. Come and enjoy this architectural masterpiece with its atmosphere of conventional luxury and allow yourself to be pampered by the attentive service of our devoted staff. ... more   less
