This has to be the friendliest hotel in New Zealand! Superb rooms, excellent bar/restaurant. The best thing? The staff. Any request was met with a smile and great local knowledge by everyone from front desk to restaurant to bar staff. I must mention Penny on the front desk whose name I got wrong on the final morning......sorry Penny!

We stayed on night in this historic building in Napier. Hotel has a real authentic feeling with antique furniture, wood panelling. The rooms are nice with a small but stylish bathroom. What stood out was the friendliness of the people. We got a wonderful welcome from Penny who did everything to make us feel welcome. We had a marvellous evening... More

The place was really well laid out with beautiful finishings that made you feel like you'd stepped right back into the 1930s. The staff were so friendly from the very first moment we arrived, to rushing to get umbrellas for us when the weather turned. We loved this hotel and would definitely stay again!

Service was excellent, location good, clean and friendly. Did not give it 5 stars as we tend to like more modern style hotels, none available in Napier. But if you like classic old style, this is a gem for you. They offer an excellent breakfast with the room, free fruits any complimentary port wine all day and night. A very... More

We stayed 2 nights this week. Very comfortable, delightful period style. Although we usually go and explore other places to eat, we decided to eat in the hotel restaurant ( Wine Street) the first night and had a delicious meal in quiet surroundings (although there were several other groups dining) . The following night we only wanted a light meal... More

We booked into this Hotel on a bit of a road trip of the North Island. It was centrally located and within easy walk of the town centre which we liked. Parking was available over the road at no cost which was another bonus. The interior was certainly stylish and the staff welcoming, our room was spacious and the bed... More

My wife and I stayed here for our 10th anniversary. From start to finish, the service was first class. We were upgraded to a corner suite which was amazing. While some things need maintenance this did not detract at all from an outstanding experience. The complimentary port was a highlight as was the ample space and old school opulence that... More

We really loved the County Hotel which is a beautifully maintained and comfortable hotel. Penny and the team were the best thing about the County Hotel. They were a great help advising on places to go, booking excursions and taxis for us. The team are all so friendly and are really keen to make their guests comfortable. The County Hotel... More

The County Hotel is situated in the centre of Napier which is considered to be the 'Art Deco Capital of the South Pacific' and has captivated the emotions and senses of countless admirers. Originally built for the Hawke's Bay County Council in 1909, The County Hotel is one of only two significant buildings to have survived the massive 1931 earthquake. Faithfully refurbished as a boutique hotel, the County Hotel now stands as Napier's premier Hotel. The hotel is home to an extremely popular, multi award winning Wine Street Restaurant, the superb Churchill's Champagne Lounge, an intimate library, well-appointed function areas, conference facilities and eighteen luxurious guest rooms and offer a variety of accommodation packages.
