Horrible place due to bed bugs and owners who threaten you to keep your mouth shut about it! They even lie to health inspectors! They won't do anything proper against this pest and don't care that guests might get bitten and carry the bugs to other hostels!

We always thank our customers for their reviews, comments and constructive suggestions. The hostel has very recently been given a clean bill of health from the Environmental Health Dept, the Department is regulated by the the City Council and that cannot be tampered with. We feel this should be sufficient reply to the recent comment

This is the hostel where I stayed while working in Hastings and this is the place I can most call home in NZ so far! Irene and Judith are welcoming and make you feel at home :) Kitchen is huge and the hostel is big so you don't feel like you're living on each other (auckland way...) And the area...

It was alright for a short stay for me. Couldnt really get comfortable there. It is a good 20 Minute walk to Napier city. Napier itself is just beautiful. I didnt find the staff and people staying there too be too friendly.

long term workers everywhere although they were nice people they took over everywhere. No storage space in the kitchen. The Kitchen Shelves were dirty and worn. The toilets and showers were ok on the main block. The other Block was Filthy. Not many staff there but the guy working there really did his best against all odds and was very...

I've spent many a night in many a hotel motel or hostel room and this place was so bad we asked for our money back as soon as we had spent 5 min in the room. The floor had food on it..crumbs and feathers and bits of twine? One dodgy power point with a power point covered in dust. walls...

We are disappointed to read your comments, especially as you were advised that we were in the midst of repainting the hostel. You turned down the first room that was offered, a freshly decorated room, because of the new paint odour. The room that you accepted unfortunately had not yet been repainted and had some scuff marks on the wall....

I have stayed at the portside inn for a good few months now and I feel it is a home from home. When we arrived we were surprised to find that mark and Irene originally came from a town near us in the UK. They were so welcoming and offered us a spacious caravan which was by far 100times better...

I felt safe, being a single woman travelling alone, I was well looked after and had lots of fun. A little out of the way piece of home for me. Irene and Mark pointed me in the right direction for everything I needed. It was great to meet lots of people from other parts of the world in such a...

“What you need to know is there is free wifi but it's only for an hour every day. If you need more you can pay. But there are lots of fast food places in Napier so you can also use the wifi there if you need to.”
