Other than location, we found the hotel to be very average in comparison to other Accor Properties we've stayed at, and in some regards, below average. The lack of a gym and onsite restaurants was a major detractor. There is a gym nearby that can be used, but for $8 a day. Also, the lack of any form of breakfast in the morning (not even coffee) was unheard of for us. We were told we could go to the Accor hotel down the street 3 blocks for breakfast if we wanted to, but that is a major inconvenience. It would be great if the hotel partnered with a local restaurant to offer breakfast to their guests versus having to pay for a breakfast at a local restaurant.
The other detractor we encountered was the relatively poor service from the hotel staff when we encountered an issue. We discovered towels that were dirty and possibly used (uncleaned) in our room - but folded up and presented as clean towels. It was not until we went to use them that we discovered that they were dirty. The response from the hotel was not what you would expect for this type of mistake. The person that brought the new towels to the room did not even apologize - simply said they would "look into it". Definitely not what we expected to hear after we almost dried off with a dirty towel!! Aside from this issue, the staff was friendly, but their issue resolution needs improvement.
We have not been impressed thus far, first down side was all the roadworks outside which made it very difficult for our taxi driver to park up and meant we had to lug all our luggage across the street. The hotel has no valet service at the entrance and obviously the works are not within their control , however there was no prior notification that this might pose an issue before we arrived.
Check in was relatively speedy and as Accor members we were offered our choice fo welcome drink - we asked for red wine and were informed this would be delivered shortly.
We headed up to our suite; when we exited the lift we were met with wet paint signage and the corridor covered with plastic sheeting - staff on front desk had made no mention of the fact that there is clearly a refurbishment programme underway.
Our suite has a lovely view of the marina and is reasonably clean, however given this is their best suite and is described as being luxury , we were disappointed by how tired it is. Their website shows cushions in the sofas, there are none, and overall it just doesn’t have much of a welcoming feel.
We noticed that there was only one cereal bowl in the cupboard and we only had 5 hangers, so when we popped out we mentioned this at my reception who promised to sort this. When we returned they had delivered 2 bowls, extra hangers and also two small bottles of cava, not the red wine we’d asked for so we rang reception. Bizarrely, the person on the end of the phone clearly thought my husband was someone else and started asking him about his request to cancel a booking which was rather strange, but subsequently a member of staff did appear at our door with the promised red wine and an apology .
It was when I went to shower that I then noticed that we also hadn’t been provided with bathrobes, which are a standard provision in all rooms, so I went down to reception. I mentioned that we were not particularly impressed with the lack of attention to detail thus far . The lady I spoke too didn’t appear to be that bothered muttered a bit of an apology and said she’d sort it. Later on there was a knock on our door, a woman was stood there holding two bathrobes which she handed to me without saying a word and then walked off, which I thought was rather rude and somewhat unprofessional.
Although the location is lovely and we have a great marina view , we are currently both feeling a little disappointed and underwhelmed by our experience thus far. We hope that rest of our stay is to what we had both hoped for and were looking forward to.
Friendly welcome and slick check in. Our City view studio was spacious and well equipped but the decor was a little tired. The plus point was the great location adjacent to the ViaductHarbour with its plethora of bars and restaurants. The city sightseeing hop on/off bus stop was only a few minutes away and we packed in an awful lot in our short time in this lovely city
Nothing super special but it was clean and tidy.
Location is great if you want the viaduct area for eateries/bars or for an evening stroll past the expensive moored boats. The ferries to Waiheke Island / Devonport etc are near. Just be mindful of all the roadworks in Auckland. It affects pedestrians hugely as well as all vehicles. Walking to and from this hotel was not a joy because of the hassle which we were unaware of. ( this is obviously beyond the hotels control) I’ve stayed in a few hotels in Auckland over the years. The Sebel is not luxury but certainly not bad. I’d stay here again - hopefully the roadworks will he gone by then.
Check in was swift and prompt but after this it all went downhill.
We were allocated room 622 and found the view of a car park very disappointing and created a distinct lack of privacy due to it being so close on the opposite side of the road; the bathroom and kitchenette area floor tiles were cracked and the walls throughout had many scuff marks and cracks on them.
In fact the overall appearance of the room was one of poor design, decay and dirt! Nothing felt clean, carpets, walls, surfaces. In fact the glass shelves housing the glassware were thick with dust - Unacceptable.
Speaking to the room attendant we noticed that on her housekeeping trolley there were clean and dirty towels mixed together in a scene of general chaos and confusion !!
Reception sadly didn’t seem too concerned to hear of our comments and merely agreed that some updating work needed doing but no offer to move us was forthcoming.
The mattress and pillows were too soft for our taste and again no alternative available.
If you prefer location over all else hotel-wise then this could be a contender but truthfully and in our opinion there are better options that we wish we had gone for.
We would never book this hotel again not would we recommend it.
We had a city view studio suite it was fab had a kitchenette with everything you need, dishwasher, also washing machine and a dryer in the suite.
Very spacious suite bathroom had walk in shower fab.
Staff so very helpful and friendly
Quite happy to Stay again.
