Prompt and helpful bell service as we pulled up, check in was also a breeze. The room was delightful and we felt as if we had been transported to Europe. The fixtures and amenities are all of a high quality. We didn't have a view but it is a small price to pay for such a central location and being near the back of the hotel was very quiet. We booked a package for a mid range room and it was very good value. We had intended to stay at the Sofitel Lighter Quay where we have stayed on a regular basis but the rates were too high. On balance we preferred the Grand Windsor given the character of the hotel. The restaurant "Cookes" was also pleasant , we had dinner there, the coffee roasted beets were a tad too earthy, the tuna was good and the duck and groper were both competent. Presentation was contemporary. Breakfasts were really good and a step above the usual in hotels. Check out was also easy and efficient. In all this is a well located hotel with character and a high standard of service. At the price we paid it is the best value 5 star stay we have ever had in Auckland and we can't wait to go back.

We loved the subdued vibe of this boutique hotel, and that the small number of rooms (in comparison to a place like The Cordis) meant that we received personalised service and attention. The hotel has a concierge, who provided us with a complimentary drink upon arrival, and a relaxed check-in experience. The hotel is situated on the main shopping street of Auckland CBD, so parking is off-site. The bathrooms were of a good size, and bathrobes and slippers were provided for use. Our bed was a little on the hard size, though the room was otherwise warm and comfortable. The only two downsides of this hotel was that our validated parking ticket failed to work on two separate occasions, and also there was a bank of air conditioners on the building outside our window that seemed to run all night. It was a level of noise, though, that is to be expected at a city-based accommodation.

We really enjoyed our Luxury Escapes stay here.
The location is only a couple of minutes walk to Britomart & the fabulous Harbour Eats foodcourt & a 10 minute walk to SkyCity.
We stayed in a superior room & then a junior suite. Both rooms were lovely.
A local bar was noisy on Friday & Saturday nights but we found by turning up the fan on the air conditioner the noise could be “hidden”.
The superior room had a nice part harbour view.
The junior suite had lots of room in its small entrance to store suitcases/bags so would be useful for someone with a bit of luggage.
The staff were very professional & friendly.
We ate in the restaurant for breakfast & also had dinner one night- all delicious.
The mashed potato in the evening was the best we have ever had & my husband thought the French Toast for breakfast was the nicest he had ever had.
We would definitely return again and we would like to thank all the staff for a lovely & enjoyable stay.

If you want to sleep, do not stay here. There is a reason they provide earplugs (located in the wardrobe) so they obviously know about the noise levels. It is very very noisy. I did not sleep all night due to the street noise, club noise, yelling and sirens. The cleaners were very loud opening and shutting the room door next to me (I had the do not disturb light on trying to sleep) to the stage I got up to see what was going on outside. I can't even describe how loud it is in the rooms it got to the stage where I considered going to sleep in the rental car.

I was also told when I was checking out (The same person checked me in and out) that I owed money for the nights accommodation (I had a Credit and had paid the remaining balance owing prior to arrival) This person had taken the bond from me I don't know how she could not remember she had taken a $100 bond, yet remembered I needed a parking validation ticket!?.
(I had paid a $100 bond due to not having a Credit Card) and she informed me I would need to repay the remainder owing on the room not returning the bond.
I protested this and she called someone else over.

I had to find my email showing I had paid before arrival and explain I had a Credit, I used this and paid the remaining PRIOR and paid the bond due to not having a CC. By this stage I was extremely annoyed and embarrassed as there were people checking in next to me.

I would never ever set foot in this place again one due to lack of sleep and two to the difficulties of checkout. I will not be back

We stayed here for 2 nights at the end of our holiday, the hotel is well located and staff are helpful and accommodating.
It has been nicely decorated although our room had no window so did feel slightly claustrophobic.
Unfortunately the noise in our room during the night until 4.30 am was dreadful, the hotel appears to be next to a very noisy nightclub and it is so loud it shakes the room!
The hotel does supply ear plugs but they don’t help much.
We didn’t complain as I’m not sure what could have been done in the middle of the night.
I feel strongly that you should be advised on booking about the noise and possibly the worst affected rooms should be a cheaper rate.
We were on the 1st floor so I would suggest anyone booking asks for a higher floor.
I haven’t complained to hotel directly as I won’t be back but I do think it’s only fair that people spending a significant amount of money on a special treat should be aware.
I think there are better places to stay.

We booked the Hotel Grand Windsor as we had a show at the Aotea Centre on Saturday night and it’s old world charm and central city location was appealing. As it was our first night away together from our toddler I booked us the Junior Suite which was absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately this isn’t the room we ended up staying in. Being local to Auckland I knew that the nightclub right outside our window (we were on level 3) goes late into the night (430am) so I requested a room change and this was accommodated almost immediately. Sadly there weren’t any other junior suites available on a higher floor so we were allocated a superior room on the Queen Street side. On check in I wasn’t advised that our Junior Suite may experience a substantial amount a of noise from the nightclub, I would have appreciated a heads up especially if I wasn’t from Auckland.
Once we had moved rooms, which was handled with ease, we had a delicious in room cocktail from Cooke’s bar down stairs. Our second room was on the 5th floor. Queen Street is noisy you can’t escape it so it did take awhile for us to get to sleep but this comes with the territory of staying inner city. The windows certainly don’t block out the sound as much as they could do which is a shame. Breakfast in the morning was lovely, although when we asked for a glass of orange juice (we were mid way through our meal) the waitress pointed to the self serve section and let us know we could get it ourselves and went back to preparing cutlery. It would have taken her 3 seconds to grab it for as as we were the only ones there at the time and we were both eating, which in our opinion isn’t 5 star service.
All in all we enjoyed our stay, the location is great and the refurbishment is lovely but unfortunately the location also works against the establishment, especially with its closeness to the nightclub which almost makes those on that side rooms unstayable on nights that Roxy’s operates. Request a high floor (6 or 7) away from the nightclub side and pop your white noise on and you should be fine.

My wife and I stayed in this hotel for three nights to tour Auckland after disembarking from a cruise ship. The reception, concierge and bell service were all great. In particular, the advice and service from bellman Pablo Gonzales was exceptional. We booked a Queen room, the layout of which was long and narrow and felt a bit cramped. The presence of the two chairs and table in the space contributed to the cramped feeling. We visited our friends who had booked a suite there and it was spacious with none of the cramped feeling.

My wife and I had a bad experience during breakfast hours in the hotel resturant. We found our travel companions in the restaurant having breakfast and joined them at an empty table next to them. After some time a waitress appeared and we ordered coffee since we didn't want breakfast. After about 30 minutes our friends had finished breaskfast and still no coffee. Not wanting to delay them we asked the restaurant manager if we could have our coffee in a lounge area part of the restaurant. He agreed and we then sat for another 10 minutes with no service. At that point we decided that there was to be no coffee. I approached the manager and told him we were waiting no longer and complained about the lack of service. He said that the delay was due to "three or four people" ahead of us. In my view this was a poor excuse for a restaurant that did not appear to be busy. My recommendation is that if you don't want the hotel's expensive buffet breakfast then look for one of the many street shops in the area.

The Hotel Grand Windsor is located in the heart of Auckland’s Queen street and surrounded by all high-end brands. Grand Windsor has provided us exceptional hospitality experiences throughout the entire stay from check in until check out. As soon as I walked in, the amazing smell was welcomed our family. Personalized check in experience that you cannot experience in any other hotels was very much impressive. The hotel deco was perfectly blended with classic and art, the rooms were spotlessly cleaned, the best quality amenities, high tech ( Bose sound bar ), complimentary WIFI, Nespresso coffees, well known tea brand -T2 were provided. It couldn’t be better. Additionally, the hotel provided a recycle bin in guest room which is very thoughtful for the sustainability. All staff are well trained to provide the best service and super friendly.

In conclusion, Hotel Grand Windsor is simply the best hotel in Auckland and we will definitely be back to have the experience again.

The Grand Windsor hotel has a great location and is away from the current major infrastructure construction closer to the wharf. It's within walking distance of good restaurants as well as the Sky Tower, the Ferry Building and wharfs, and boutique shops located on the Queen's Arcade and also along High Street. I had a superior king room that was very nice, quiet, and spacious. The staff was exceptionally nice and helpful with a concierge desk that is staffed 'round the clock with friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful concierges, especially Pablo. Cooke's Restaurant and Bar is located just inside the lobby. Breakfast was served daily with both buffet items and hot dishes to order. While I found the buffet a bit lacking, I enjoyed the dishes off the menu, particularly the Brisket Hash and the Avocado and Pea Mash over seeded bread. Lunch was also served at Cooke's as well as tapas after 2pm. I enjoyed dinner there one night during my stay. I highly recommend this hotel for a wonderful stay in Auckland.

Skybus from AKL Intl. is the most economical way to get to the hotel and definitely the fastest in rush hour or traffic. And the bus takes you 25 meters from the door, stop #11.

No, but the Council owned car parks offer the best value, not the Wilson owned car parks recommended by the hotel.
