Great location right in the busy Melbourne CBD. Room is very clean. Easy check in. Tram, train, taxi, malls, is all within walking distance. Especially 3 minutes walk to Flinder train station. bravo! Across the road is the center of shopping mall - Emporium, Jones & Myers. China town is 10 minutes walk away.

Basically, you're getting what you pay for at the Ibis Budget. The staff are churlish, the hotel smells, the communal tea and coffee area is filthy, the elevators are dodgy and one is very small which can be problematic when many guests are arriving at once. The rooms are clean though old and in desperate need of a refurbish. The... More

The hotel is in a fantastic part of the CBD, about 3-5 minutes walk to major sites like Flinders St Station and Bourke Street Mall. There's also a tram stop right outside the hotel, with trams running up and down Elizabeth Street. The hotel itself was very ordinary, however, as a budget hotel it was quite good. You've got to... As I knowingly booked this one/ two star budget accommodation for the Grand Final weekend I had NO Illusions that this place would be a bit grubby and stainy (not the beds tho), darkish rabbit warreny corridors, small with the occasional funky smell in the hallway downstairs. It is however extremely well located, extremely well priced, the beds were comfortable... More

Right in the central business district, so very strategic for first time visitors. Wifi isnt free, though. And no free breakfast. But then again, it's Melbourne so cant expect everything to be free. Rooms are small and basic, but beds are comfy, ac and warm showers are working, so it does the job. No real complaints, actually. Free (or cheaper)... More

Grand final week end in Melbourne is difficult to get accommodation in the CBD and we ended up at the Ibis Budget out of necessity. Upon entry your senses are assaulted by the strong smell of garbage while waiting in the corridor for the lift. Upon reaching the cramped reception area where only one slightly frazzled girl was handling guests... More

A place just for sleep. Nothing exceptional. But the an excellent location. Close or everything. The main problem is the lift. The hotel only have 2 and too much people, specially when you have to do the check-out. A good point: the lockers, you'll pay a low fee for the lockers.

My wife and I stayed one night during July as it is in town and close to the railway station. The room was clean and ample in size but a bit tired. The toilet is separate from an outside shower. Air conditioning is via a heat pump which is slightly noisy. Our window just faces the building next door but... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
