We stayed here for 4 nights before Christmas with our 2 small children, having lived in Melbourne before we knew the location we were booking. The hotel was in a great location and quiet. Comfortable beds plenty of space, really accessible and close to the free Circle Tram of the city. On the first day they turned off the electricity...

Great value for money. Room cleaner than any other I have stayed at. Bright stylish decor. Beautiful view of gardens and streetscape (5th floor). Staff couldn't do enough for you. Nice lounge bar downstairs and casual restaurant. Last year stayed in the so-called up market Windsor hotel a block away from Mercure.........not a patch on Mercure. Thanks to Tanya, assistant...

Stayed in a "city view queen room" for 2 nights (Sat/Sun) nights for average $188 per night, and while the room was modern enough and clean, it was extremely small. So small that there was really nowhere to put your things and it always felt messy because you had things lying around all the time. The hotel should be upfront...

The hotel is a good mid-range hotel, not luxury, not skimpy. I think our room rate was around $155 for the night. We arrived here at the last minute after booking from the airport for one night, and we had a small-ish but perfectly functional room that was nicely decorated and had a good view of the gardens opposite. Slept...

We spent 4 nights here with our teenage daughters. We were given a great room on the 9th floor overlooking Treasury Gardens and beyond. It's very close to all of Melbourne's sporting venues (we went to watch the Ashes), and in the downtown district (MCD). Trams run right outside the hotel and Flinders Street train station is a 10 minute...

We stayed in mid-October to attend a play at the Malthouse. Our check-in was a debacle which only got worse as it proceeded. The staff member at reception advised me that the room had not been paid for in advance despite having a receipt in my hand acknowledging payment. "Ahhh, human error", she said, "that's incorrect, you haven't paid". Well,...

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
