A Centrally located place, the staff were very helpful and knowledgeable. The room was spacious, decor was not a concern, it was cleaned each day and an extra bed was brought in. I don't have a problem and will stay here again. We stayed 4 nights.

This hotel has a lot going for it, top location, great staff, good value. Bathrooms could use an upgrade, looking pretty tired but would not stop me from returning. Casino downstairs is also a fun thing but only if you win right?

We stayed at the Swanston Hotel, Grand Mercure for 3 nights and although the room was spacious, it felt tired and dull. Location was fantastic and the staff were great but we couldn't help feeling that it could do with some renovations to brighten the atmosphere. We were thinking of going for a swim during our stay but that too...

Dear Jacky T, Thank you for your review on your recent stay with us. The renovation of the hotel is certainly high on our agenda. The mock-up floor has just been completed & we are finalizing some details prior to doing the rest of the floors in stages. WE advertised our pool as a relaxation pool, as the size of...

We stayed in the city for a couple of days and stayed at the Swanston which has a really central location. The room was very comfortable and much better that the ones in the Mercure Welcome, which shares the same lobby. If I have one gripe it is the lack of free internet access. Many Accor hotels have some form...

Stayed there in September, location is great, very close to many restaurants, bars, cafes and stores. This is the main reason for staying here. Room was very large and quiet, however very (very) old. Staff is efficient, but very formal and cold, typical from large hotel chains. (Expensive) paid wifi is a shame. Recommended for short stay in central location.

Dear Henrique2012, Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed the convenient location of the hotel. I am sorry that you didn’t find our staff to be warm & friendly. We spent four nights here but were tempted to pack up and find something else. The hotel is is in dire need of a complete refurbishment and this needs to happen soon. The staff tried hard but silly things like our room access card being cancelled and made non-viable a day before we were due to leave was nothing short...

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
