Spending a night in Melbourne. Pro's: Great hostel, clean room, clean bathroom, free wifi. Cons: if there's a lot of people in the lobby the wifi goes really but really slow, personal experience: for a hostel quite expensive

Right outside the door is a tram in the free tram zone. We are YHA members in our 50s and we found this YHA calm, clean and cosy. The staff are friendly. Bathrooms were modern with great showers. Rooms were quiet. Room 208 was a double room at the end of the corridor with 2 windows. Light, roomy and airy....

My first time to do and stay in a backpackers hotel. The experience changed my perception about this type of accomodation and YHA Central Melbourne does not belong to the stereotype. Reception was fast and and receptionists were very accomodating, friendly and nice. Rooms were modest and beds are provided with a drawer to keep important belongings. Shared bathrooms and...

Hi Daniel We're really happy you enjoyed your first stay in a YHA. Don't be a stranger - there are more than 80 other YHAs around Australia so we'd love to see you at another hostel soon.

Melbourne Central YHA is on Flinders Street and it is close to the Federation Square, St Patrick Cathedral, Swanston Street. Good ambiance at the hostel and there is a coin laundry next to it. Recommended.

Perfect location, near to Southern Cross station (for airport shuttle and trains around the city), the hostel is also within the free tram zone. Overall the hostel is fine but I have stayed in much nicer, cleaner and looked-after YHA hostels in Australia. It seemed dark and dingy inside, and not welcoming. I think the wifi should be free and...

Thanks for your review - we're sorry that you didn't have as good of a stay as possible. We actually do have free Wi-Fi - like at other YHA's, it's free in communal areas. For us, that's the ground floor, however if you're after Wi-Fi in your room, you'll have to pay for it. A dark and dingy building is...

I originally booked to stay for 2 nights, but ended up extending another night as I really enjoyed my stay at Melbourne central yha. The rooms and toilets/showers were very clean. Hostel is in a great location, 5-10 minute walk to southern cross station. Staff were super helpful and friendly. I'd say the only negatives are the price, as it's...

Overall a nice little hostel and I'd use it again when visiting Melbourne. I had a room on the first floor at the front of the hostel.....great as the free wifi still works there but very noisy with traffic, trams and trains in the night. If you are a light sleeper ask for a room at the back!! Room was...

it was really dirty. the moment you enter the room theres a certain stench, like moldy or mildew. its carpeted but i doubt they even vacuum their floors(didnt see it during my stay). the same odor can be smelled in the common area. poor ventilation in the rooms. with no air-con, the electric fan is quite noisy that you need...

Stayed at this hostel for three nights. Good hostel, clean and close to the city centre. Staff helpful and friendly. Plenary of places to eat and drink nearby and tram stops right outside of hostel. Facilities are good within the hostel and security is good too- room keycards are used. Good price. Would recommend.

I was staying there for a week at the end of December and enjoyed the place very much. Location of the hostel is a great advantage. Walking distance to the city center and a tram ( for free) by the door. The staff very friendly and helpful, organises some entertainment in the evening. There is also nice place on a...

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
