Melbourne Central YHA (former Markilles Hotel) at 562 Flinders Street. It has budget accommodation. It is on the Victorian Heritage Register. It is better located than the North Melbourne hostel It is part of the Youth Hostel Association and is a good pace to meet fellow travellers

My sister and I had 4 nights in Melbourne and stayed in a 3 share female dorm. We had a great experience. The hostel has a great vibe, good areas to hang out in and the facilities like kitchen and bathrooms are great. We also found the location very handy, especially with a tram stop right out front that is...

The staff were awesome and energetic on arrival, despite me being half asleep after about 30 hours of travel! They didn't let up for the 3 weeks I was there, great people. Really helpful, if you have any enquiries, just ask them, they know the answer! The 4 bed room was spacious with secure lockers, might want to fix the...

The hostel was clean and in a decent location, a lot of people stay in St Kilda but the YHA is just 15-20 minute walk to downtown and you don't need to get the shuttle all the time, plus we went to St Kilda and it's pretty far away and the beach was mediocre. I stayed in the 12 bed...

Amazing facilities... super clean and felt like I was in a proper 4 star hotel with shared accomedations. The staff were very helpful and the location is amazing if you want quick access to the heart of the city. The roof top patio is amazing to lay out on after a long day of walking exploring the city.

really nice and clean hostel. the location is good and the stuff are friendly and helpful. don't go there if you're by yourself.. it's not the place to make friends and travel mates. not a party hostel but close to all the good spots.

I arrived at the hostel and as I was checking in the receptionist made an extremely offensive and derogatory comment about my name. The staff in general were not helpful except for one of the managers, who apologized for the incident when I checked in. The staff didn't know anything about the surrounding area; they couldn't tell my friend where...

Thanks for your review and we're sorry that you didn't enjoy your stay as high level customer service and clean, working facilities is really important to us. Management has spoken to the staff member to ensure what you experienced doesn't happen again. We are aware of the mouse and it has been baited. In regards to your room, if there...

Friendly staff, with helpful advice on what to do in Melbourne & Victoria, as well as booking trips across Australia. Super central location, just a short walk from either Southern Cross Station or Flinders Station (trains), and within the free tram zone too - there is a stop right outside. Dorm rooms are a little tired (lick of paint would...

Having stayed in a number of YHAs in Australia, my wife and I rate this as one of the best. The place is well looked after, clean, and in a good location (10 minute walk to Flinders station, less to Southern Cross). We stayed in a private double, which was functional and not too small - likewise with their dorms,...

I only booked one night in a 3 Bed Female dorm at the end of my trip. It was conveniently located to Southern Cross, so easy to get back to the airport. The bathrooms were really clean, but this Hostel is MASSIVE. I tend to stay at smaller non-chain hostel groups so it was interesting to see how this one...

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
