There were lots of good things about our stay here but a few disappointments too. The front desk staff were excellent and helpful. Room girls great also . The hotel is in a very good position on the harbour front and the valet parking worked well. Our room looked great but there was no where to put anything . We...

We stayed with another couple to be in Hobart over New Year, when the yachts arrived in Constitution dock in the Sydney to Hobart race. Rooms were large comfortable and different. This boutique hotel advertises itself as an Art House Hotel, and there is plenty of art around! The best location with a great ambiance. Our breakfasts were included. They...

My husband and I along with a friend recently spent two weeks in Australia and, of the four hotels we stayed at, the Henry Jones Art Hotel stood out for its architecture and decor, friendly staff, and perfect location overlooking the piers. It was easily walkable to the piers, to shops and to many great restaurants. The hotel itself had...

HJ Art Hotel was renovated from an 18th century jam factory and decorated throughout with both new contemporary art as well as relics from its past. Located right on the main docks on the harbor, it is in a perfect location to allow you to stroll to dinner and downtown, with most of the prime spots within a 5-10 minute...

Great location with walking distance to many nice restaurants and only ten minutes walk to the city. They have a new 5 Star restaurant called Landscape well worth a visit the staff are still learning to serve to this level. If you require a quiet room do not stay in the Loft apartments at the rear as it faces the car park...

I stayed here for a conference. Great rooms, spacious and the interior architecture reflected the origin of the hotel as a jam factory. Friendly staff, decent food offerings and a wonderful waterfront location. Given that Hobart is a small town, most of the local shopping and dining is within easy walking distance.

After a 2 week road trip, with a final visit to Museum of New and Old Arts (MONA), a stay at this lovely quaint hotel is a superb finale to the Tassie experience. The conserved building are nicely lay out and the room I stayed in - The Loft , was superb. Cosy and nicely furnished, it's a conveniently located...

We had anticipated this would be an excellent hotel offering something special and yet it even surpassed our high expectations. The ambitious conversion of an old jam factory has created rooms with character like no other we have stayed in, right in the action on the waterfront The staff are excellent especially the breakfast crew. James & Peacock Restaurant is...

The Henry James appeared fabulous from the start. Our room was unique, on two levels with marvelous furniture and a National Historic Register wood staircase. Some of the design was impractical, such as bathroom sinks with basins so broad water spilled out of them easily and a faucet that came down almost to the surface of the sink so that...

We stay here pretty often, checked in just before new year, there wasnt a welcome back on check in which we normally get every time (we did have the welcome back letter in our room ) the staff did their job but there wasn't any love and warmth from the staff. Something has changed. I went to breakfast next morning...

Dear Dogsey, Thank you very much for your review and I am very disappointed and sorry to hear that your welcome back to the hotel was not how it should be, genuine, warm and feeling like you are coming back to your second home. I have no real explanation as to why we have not got this right for your...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Australia's first dedicated art hotel stands proudly on Hobart's glorious waterfront. A handsome row of historic warehouses dating from the 1820s (the former IXL jam factory) have been creatively transformed into an enthralling multi-award winning first class hotel. The hotel itself is a work of art. Here you'll be fascinated by the unexpected combination of the antique and the ultra modern. ... more   less
