All the good review about the HJ are true. But, I have to say that the best martini in the world is not worth $28.00. OK, it was made with the best vermouth and local botanical gin by a bartender that clearly knew what he was doing. I've been to the IXL several times and will go back for the... More

we received great service and had a very comfortable stay. The historical art tour was excellent, full of interesting information. if only qantas had got us here earlier we would have enjoyed the full experience.

We spent our last couple of nights at the HJ before we flew home. We found the rooms clean, spacious and the bed very comfortable. The 'little' things like the coffee maker, specialist T2 tea, turn down chocolates and the free valet parking are what made our stay just that little bit more special. The hotel is right on Constitution... More

I don't usually write reviews but I feel that I should contribute as I usually read them. The hotel was over priced and just ok...I stayed at the grand chancellor just before and it as at least 10 x the hotel at significantly cheaper cost. The artist loft is outdated and with a toilet at least 1.5 stair cases down...... More

A quick visit here brought good, comfortable beds in the studios, very helpful reception staff but slow breakfast wait staff - helping mainlanders to take a slower pace? The location is great for city access, for visiting MONA and to escape the city.

We travelled blind to Hobart and put our faith in Tasvacations who booked our accomodation at Henry Jones. With no expectations we were blown away. Not to mention this was the first night of our honeymoon! We couldn't be happier. Amazing accomodation and fantastic staff. Would highly recommend to all! We will be back.

This is my second and last visit to the Henry Jones IXL Art Hotel. Once wonderful it is now well past its best; rather like catching up with an ex after 7 or 8 years and realising they've put on more than a few kilos, the skin's gone a bit grey and saggy and they're still wearing that natural fibres... I had a "Standard Harbour View" room and it was very nice (see photo), but what made the hotel special was all the art installations. Not just the gallery pieces on the walls, but also the stereogram of the building before the rehab and also the historical installations of some of the equipment used back when it was a jam... More

Huge size room, friendly staff and concierge, great location and very eclectic. While I am not direction challenged, the GPS and I struggled to find the hotel. Hotel accommodation in Hobart is rather hit and miss. Looking for a retro 70s, experience there are a number of hotels.

We stayed at the Henry Jones on the last night of our 2 weeks in Tassie. It is situated right in the heart of the marina and restaurant district and a short walk to Salamanca markets. We found all the staff very friendly and helpful. We decided to have room service which was delivered promptly and hot. The hotel itself... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Australia's first dedicated art hotel stands proudly on Hobart's glorious waterfront. A handsome row of historic warehouses dating from the 1820s (the former IXL jam factory) have been creatively transformed into an enthralling multi-award winning first class hotel. The hotel itself is a work of art. Here you'll be fascinated by the unexpected combination of the antique and the ultra modern. ... more   less
