The Islington is a lovely building, with a combination of historic interest and eclectic artwork. Its location is ideal - only a short walk from Salamanca or central Hobart, or even some of the local cafes/restaurants in South Hobart. The dining room looks out over a courtyard to an impressive skyscape, dominated by Kunanyi/Mt Wellington. The rest of this historic...

We were celebrating a wedding anniversary, so wanted something which was beyond your ordinary hotel experience. Well, The Islington delivers. You don't check in; you don't find a room number on your door; there is no "reception". These may seem like small things, but they all add up to an absolute gem of a place that feels like anything but...

Our first time to Hobart we couldn't have pick a better place. Just a lovely stay at Islington. Close to the city a great walk into town. Very exclusive and meals just perfect. Our bedroom had the out look to Mt Wellington wonderful view our only concern was there no main light for the evening. Staff were very welcome and...

It had been many years since our last stay, and we were concerned that our fond memories may have become gilded by time, but as we stepped back into this elegant Georgian house we felt its charm and welcome all over again. Hobart is a wonderful place and favourite of ours and we have stayed in many different places during...

This place is located on busy Davey St., southwest of the Hobart city-center. Despite its near-city location, this exclusive inn was surprisingly quiet. A set of narrow car-gates leads to a gravel parking area, with adequate parking space for all guests. So, leave your car here (the Hobart streets can be confusing), and taxi into downtown Hobart. There is a...

We took a small group to Hobart for a birthday weekend and stayed at the Islington. Hobart has a great selection of activities and dining options and the Islington was the perfect base to explore them from. The staff went out of their way to make the stay an enjoyable one for all of our guests, nothing was too much...

A well located property to base exploration of the Hobart/Port Arthur area. Extremely accommodating staff with well appointed rooms in an English garden setting. Very unique art collection! Dining was nicely paced in an architecturally stunning glass structure. Menu could be slightly more varied in evening but very satisfying! Bravo Garrett for helping to make our stay in this area...

I was so excited to stay at this place after all the glowing reviews on trip advisor-so it pains me to pen the following. I knew there was going to be a problem the minute I walked in. The odor was the smell of cooking that had impregnated fabric. A lovely lady showed me around and in the process pointed...

So, I feel almost bad about submitting this review, as the staff at the Islington were so fantastic. We really tried to get in for 2 nights, but the hotel is very popular, and could only accomodate one night, luckily. The original house is lovely, and that is what you are seeing when looking online in all the photos, however...

An avant-garde steel & glass creation fused onto an exquisitely remodelled 170 year-old mansion surrounded by delightful gardens a few kilometres (but a million miles) from Hobart’s city centre - a setting with both rewards and handicaps. This was the town’s prototype boutique luxury hotel and it’s a refined and genteel operation that deserves most of its ‘luxury’ credentials, but...
