Detailed Reviews
We only stayed here for one night as the last night on our hotel before returning back to the U.K. and touring Tasmania for 3 weeks, we wanted a luxury hotel of this style to relax before the long flight home.
We were not disappointed, as this is a unique experience staying here.
Beautifully furnished and an amazing addition to what was a grand old mansion house.
From the time we arrived and the friendly welcome and being shown to our room we could appreciate the quality and the attention to detail.
The interior designer for the hotel extension has done a fantastic job.
Superb spacious room, grand bathroom with separate toilet and walk in shower.
Patio doors to the terrace, garden and lovely view of Mount Wellington.
The Bed we rate 5* for comfort and sleep quality.
Breakfast was individually cooked and very good choice and quality.
This is a hotel to relax in either inside or outside in the garden.
Expensive, yes, but very good value for this experience.
If you are only going to use the hotel as a base, spending all day away touring or seeing the sites at Hobart then it may be better to use a hotel at the Waterfront, with its own parking, but if your emphasis for this is to relax and enjoy then this Hotel is an ideal choice.
Complimentary wifi works very well, Very good TV with Netflix as well.
Well worth staying here.

I was looking for a reasonably-priced private venue in which to host a 21st birthday burnch.
The Islington Hotel is stunning in terms of decor, architecture, artworks, and the gardens. Brunch was hosted in the conservatory, which looks out onto a courtyard and has a view of Mt. Wellington/kunanyi. The space was perfect and large enough that it wasn't cramped, but small enough that it was still intimate (for sixteen people).
The food was beautiful. Fresh and simple, a great deal of the food items were handmade by the kitchen team. The staff were incredibly attentive, kind, and accomodating. I did bring a cake along, and the kitchen presented it beautifully (additionally, the cakeage fee was not ridiculous).
Organising this event was easy, and my correspondece with the hosts was pleasant.
I would highly recommend this venue for a special event! There are multiple beautiful rooms for guests to explore, and the food and staff really make it a great experience.

On our travels we have stayed at properties claiming to be 'boutique hotels' but mostly they were far from the mark. For our trip to Hobart we booked a four night stay at the Islington Hotel and were not disappointed; the 'boutique hotel' label is defined by hotels like the Islington. On arrival we were greeted by Claire and provided a personalised check in experience, our garden suite looking out to Mt Wellington was a generously sized room, well suited for the duration of our stay. We must commend Claire, Gabriela and Maria on the warm, personal service we received, and being personally greeted each morning was truly appreciated. The hotel is a few minutes drive from the CBD but in the southern end of Davey Street which is much quieter, and traffic noise never intruded on our stay. Breakfast each morning came with our room, and the conservatory looks out onto Mt Wellington, a great view to start the day with exceptionally good breakfast fare. Highly recommended, we will most certainly return on our next trip to Hobart.

After the Saffire Freycinet, maybe the letdown was to be expected upon arrival to the Islington. The place is slightly worn out and the offer to use the sitting rooms on either side of the entrance was just not that inviting. Unfortunately, we were told we had an “upgrade” to the main old building which we had consciously avoided given the proximity to the street and desire to look out at the garden as well as the mountains from the garden rooms. The manager was conspicuously absent for the entire two night stay and it was a real drag changing rooms after one night – without an apology or explanation. The staff was very pleasant and tried their best to make up for it and Angel was very conscientious although the maid’s hospital glove on the bed in the new room was kind of a drag. The garden rooms are nice with open views to the mountains albeit the cheap doors and walls allows for some noise through the door and from the guests next store.
The breakfast food was outstanding and the conservatory is a very nice place to hang both in the morning as well as the early evening.
If you are driving, pay attention to the Davey street numbers as the driveway entrance is a yellow guard door and that is it which is not a problem as the gravel driveway inside allows for decent /tight parking.
All in all, was expecting a bit more from Hobart’s “most beloved” boutique hotel albeit the place started to grow on you after a few days and we don’t have any other place at least in Hobart to compare.

Dear MBHK, We are sincerely sorry that the Islington didn't meet your expectations and on this occasion your experience didn't meet the usual high standards that we are known for, and I'm sorry I didn't have the opportunity to meet with you during your stay, but I do appreciate you taking the time to write your thoughts and comments so that we can have the opportunity to do better. Thank-you for your positive comments on Angel and our breakfast, as for the some of the other areas, we're currently in process of refreshing some of the public areas and other aspects you bring attention to, so we do hope that if you you are coming back to Hobart on a future visit you would give us a second opportunity to show you what we are known for; if you are, please reach out to me directly. With regards Nicholas

My wife and I stayed at the Islington Hotel for 4 nights as part of a week long visit to Tasmania. The property is quite unique with the original 1840's building and some more modern additions. We stayed in the Signature Room which is in the original building and is quite large with a huge bed and a modern renovated bathroom. My only comment with this room is that it is quite near to the dining room so maybe not the best choice if you prefer to sleep late!
All the staff we encountered were extremely helpful and friendly, and the fact this hotel only has a small number of rooms makes it feel quite intimate and the service very personal. Breakfast is included every day, and we also dined in the restaurant for dinner on two of our nights there. Every meal we had was fantastic. The Chef's Tasting Menu was also a highlight. The opportunity to chat with the chefs was also a nice touch.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to others and we will certainly stay again next time we head to Hobart!

Dear 9K_H1, Thank-you for choosing us for your extended stay in Hobart, we do value that you enjoyed it so much, we do hope to welcome you back into the future so that you can enjoy the other enhancements we're making. We work hard to personalise the experience so that it feels more a home-away-from-home, than a hotel, and it appears that we met that expectation for you. Highly recommended for every aspect. The food, feel, staff, ambience, location and experience staying here was truly different and very pleasing.
It felt more like you were hosted by the staff in a very small boutique hotel, more like a home, than a hotel.

Having to work for a couple of days while staying here, we looked for a room with desk to work on. This gracious space suited us down to the ground. The facility has a large range of high quality artworks which are liberally displayed in all spaces. The chef and front of house were all very personable, helpful and an absolute delight to deal with.
As friends came in for pre-dinner drinks we had choices were to entertain, from one of the separate sitting rooms or around the fire place in the main area. The chef's were very accommodating and proud to show off their creations using own/local product and minimal waste. Don't think we need to eat for a while after three days with The Islington Team; not until we go back again that is..

Hi Alex, Thank-you for the fabulous review, it most certainly was our pleasure to welcome you both for a staycation with Islington. We're just sorry you had to work, but there are definitely worse places to find yourself working from. We are pleased you got to enjoy our Signature room, in our historic house, it definitely is a guest favourite and it pleases all that you got to enjoy our spaces and appreciate our art and antiques when you did have some down time. Also, it's fantastic you got to enjoy our new menu and dining options, and of course our team is always here to ensure a warm welcome. Islington is great for work or pleasure, and we do hope to welcome you home again soon. With thanks

The Islington Hotel has been on my "to stay" list for a number of years and finally we had the opportunity. It has the feel of staying in a private house rather than a sterile hotel, with lovely gardens and a stunning conservatory with views over to Mount Wellington. I loved the variety of artwork around the hotel.
Our room was very comfortable and had the best bed I have slept in for a while.
We particularly enjoyed chatting with the chefs as we wandered in and out of our rooms and helped ourselves to delicious homebaked goodies. Unfortunately as we had pre arranged our restaurant bookings before we arrived, we didn't get the chance to sample the evening meal but no doubt it would have been delicious.
The hotel is a bit further out of town than those based around the Quay but we made the decision to leave our car and walk into town most days to help work off all the food we were eating. A $7 uber ride back up the hill was an easy option if required!
Thank you to all the lovely staff we met who helped make our stay memorable.

Such a great stay at this small boutique hotel just outside of Hobart CBD. The property is beautiful and room was spacious and well appointed. We stayed in one of the garden rooms facing Mt Wellington, waking up each morning to that view was so nice.
Location was an easy 20-30 min scenic walk into the City or Cascade Garden/Brewery via the rivulet around the corner.
All the staff were genuinely friendly and could not be more accommodating. A special mention to Glen, Kat and Shy.. Glen you're a talented chef, the food was delicious and well presented (that NYE Degustation you did was outstanding). Kat and Shy you are both awesome people too, way too many good things to mention but one of the highlights was certainly the picnic you organised for us for our anniversary.
Thank you for making our stay so memorable!

We just recently had a stay at the islington. We were impressed with the beauty of the building and the grounds. Although the Sydney to Hobart race was cancelled we still payed $600 for one night. Upon arrival we were met by glen a lovely chef - I was disappointed to see no bathrobes in the rooms even though it says it’s a room feature. Our free continental breakfast included a choice of pastries / the choice was a jam or custard donut. For a 4* hotel at a cost of 600 dollars for the night I don’t think it was quite up to standard. Those are top prices. Aside from that Kate Ans glen were really lovely and helpful and we did enjoy the drinks and room.

Good afternoon,
We are approx. 2.2km to the centre of the city, about a 25 minute stroll.
The hotel is about 25 min from the airport depending on traffic.
I am sure they would assist, good idea!
It's not a cruise ship!
