Daydream Island Resort & Living Reef is ideally located in the heart of Queensland’s Whitsundays Islands and the gateway to the World Heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef. Following an extensive $140 million redevelopment in 2018-2019, our stylish and tranquil island resort offers a range of refurbished spacious and modern rooms and suites with stunning views overlooking the pool and garden landscapes or with ocean views. There is an expanded food and beverage offering across the island with three restaurants and three bars including an exciting new Asian Fusion restaurant which joins the buffet and modern Australian restaurants. The Living Reef is the main centerpiece of the island which is a unique free form coral lagoon wrapping 200m around the central building and holding over 1.5 million litres of water. The Living Reef is home to over 100 species of marine fish, over 80 species of coral and a variety of invertebrates such as starfish, sea cucumbers and crabs. The Resort offers a revitalised pool landscape that sweeps through the tropical gardens across the resort allowing guests to swim and enjoy unparalleled views across the Whitsundays Great Barrier Reef along with unlimited access to a variety of non-motorised water activities. Daydream Island Resort’s event space will cater to major events, conferences and destination weddings, yet still provide a personal touch. Special events from cocktail parties to gala dinners can be catered for across a large range of indoor and outdoor event locations, with weddings continuing to play a part in the story of Daydream Island Resort.

At first I planned to leave before I considered to review of fear of them making things bad for me the rest of the trip but as it is THIS HORRIBLE unsure of how things could get worse. This has absolutely been the worst holiday of my life I have been crying for 2 days straight. While I had read all of the bad reviews prior to coming I really came into it with an open mind. Things have been insanely devastating since we got here. Main issues: 1. Sold out of EVERYTHING. You want rose, don’t have it. Burgers for dinner, sold out. You want a mojito, they don’t have mint. You want water with lime, they only have lemon. Always running out of dairy free milk so don’t come if you have any intolerances. We had dinner at 6:00 already sold out of their main dessert?? 2. Buffet breakfast is traumatizingly bad. For this expensive of a hotel if I’ve had a better buffet breakfast at a motel 6. Bacon and sausage raw. 30 minute wait for an omelette. No iced coffee options. Constantly out of spoons, teacups. 3. Hot tub is cold? Aware it’s a warm climate but it’s not right now so unsure the point of the tiny pool if it’s not warm? 4. Cocktails are fine cost but very artificial tasting, nothing freshly made here at all. 5. We waited 50 minutes for hot chips before asking where they were to be told they had been given to another table. We tried to check out two days early, but with the bad weather and the large price to change flights around we felt trapped. The front desk asked if there was anything they could do but honestly there is not. These are not small changes they can do to make me happy they need to change almost EVERYTHING. Things I have enjoyed in my two days: 1. Friendly staff. 2. The kangaroos are cute. 3. The restaurant food you have to pay for is very good but $$$. 4. The room is basic, but everything you need. 5. Living reef is beautiful. 6. Our tv broke (the only thing getting us through this trip) but they were quick to fix it. Overall I would recommend no one to come here I feel like we have been completely scammed. As we booked through a airline holiday program neither take responsibility for the issues. The amount of distressed people I have seen talking to the front desk I imagine they feel the same.

Hotel's Favourite
We had an ocean view room which was really huge and had everything you needed. The resort was re-opening recently and so not many visitors so made it much quieter for us. Big buffet breakfast was included which was great. Dinner at all the restaurants over our 6 night stay. Great pool bar to sit and read a book. Was still a bit cool for the pools but they whole complex is beautiful. The young South American staff kept the place going as many permanents were on job keeper... they were so busy but always time for a chat, they were great fun!

We are currently staying on Daydream Island. I must say the staff are making every effort to ensure our stay is memorable. Especially Danny and Jessica in Graze Restaurant. They both had broad smiles on their faces and catered for our every need just by being around when needed. The Island is restricted somewhat due to COVID rules at the moment and the shortage of experienced “backpackers” from around the world being available and that is putting a lot of pressure on the local staff. A walk to the other end of the Island through the rainforest is amazing and to meet a very enthusiastic staff member called Sara was so refreshing. She has a great way with guests and takes the time to provide as much positive information as possible regarding Daydream and the Whitsundays. Sara, Danny & Jessica all deserve the highest accolades for turning a few days of rain and gloomy skies into a refreshing and enjoyable experience. The whole place is clean and well serviced.

Room Tip: We chose a pool access room on the ground floor and it is beautiful. Just across from the swim up...

We just spent 3 days on the Island and it was a nice experience. Lots of swimming pools, decent food and drink options, the room was clean enough (except for some tiny ants). Inkstone is great for lunch and dinner. We were concerned after the Current Affair and after reading some of the reviews but it really was fine. We did wait a while for some orders at the Tonic bar but we tried to relax and not let is bother us. The only downside is the lack of sandy beaches but you can snorkel, kayak, paddle board and still swim. Best part was the fact that you can find lots of quiet spots for walking/swimming/just relaxing especially in the morning. We still prefer Hamilton Island but this was a fine alternative considering HI was booked out.
