The island itself is beautiful. It's to bad it's backed by expensive shabby rooms that don't even have door locks, terrible restaurant( we ate this terrible pizza for 2 nights), understaffing, and a bar that couldn't serve your 1st 2nd or third choice of beer or even give you a scooner glass because management didn't stock the island properly. All...

My partner and I stayed on Heron Island in May 2016 and absolutely loved it. We stayed in the "cheapest" available room option (Turtle Room) and were a little worried due to reading some reviews on TripAdvisor, but it turned out the room was actually really nice, clean and modern (renovated?), and the bed was very comfy. We were lucky,...

We spent 7 nights on Heron, our third visit in 15 years. This is still a fantastic location to get up close with the wildlife and that's the only reason to come. We had the cheapest room and it was very good but the island facilities are not improving. This time the tennis court was gone. There is very little...

Our wedding on Heron Island on July 3, 1966 was the first ever on this beautiful coral cay and surprised us by being such a unique event it was filmed for national television, and earned a full page story with colour photos in the Australian Women's Weekly, the Australian Post, and also received wide newspaper coverage. This year we are...

Heron Island itself was nice, and the diving/snorkeling were great. It's fortunate that those things are the only reason you really would travel to Heron Island, because the "resort" itself was a huge disappointment. For the price we paid, we expected a nice resort. Instead, we found a below average room, with no air conditioner, and both live and dead...

Our main objective in visiting Heron Island was to snorkel on the Great Barrier Reef -- we could snorkel from the beach and further out on the reef from a boat. By far the best snorkeling was from an area called the Junction -- great coral formations and lots of fish. Snorkeling from the beach, next to the pier, I...

This is a great place to come if you love experiencing the natural world with the help of knowledgeable guides who conduct free walks on the reef and the island, explaining sea and bird life. We loved waking each morning in our spacious beachside suite with views of the beach. We snorkeled on the high tide, even waking rays in...

We took a nice quiet holiday. No phones or emails (although internet is available at a small fee). The weather was poor but we used the time to do plenty of reading and it didn't slow us down snorkelling. It did interfere with many boat trips though and some other guests were not so pleased. That's the time of year....

Amazing to dive and swim with sharks, rays, turtles and schools of fish twice daily while living and dining amidst nature. Excellent reef, bird and research lecture walks by informative naturalist guides.
