The JW Marriott Gold Coast Resort & Spa strikes a balance between luxury and a spirited family-friendly atmosphere, though at times it can verge on chaotic. Nestled in a prime location close to the beach and attractions, guests enjoy its modern, well-appointed rooms with stunning views, despite occasional housekeeping and maintenance oversights. The hotel's pool and saltwater lagoon are highlights, although some maintenance comments have surfaced.
While the dining and additional charges are considered pricey by many, the overall service receives accolades for its friendliness and helpfulness. However, some guests suggest there's room for refinement. Cleanliness is generally commended, though sporadic issues are noted.

Detailed Reviews
My two daughters and I arrived for a 2 night staycation before school starts and ended up extending to 4 nights it was that good :) From the moment we arrived concierge greeted us with a warm welcome, assisted with our luggage and offered valet which we took up. As an Elite member Bhavna at reception received us graciously with face towels and welcome drinks which the girls loved and explained everything to do with our stay, we already felt like we were on holiday, and was very helpful in organising an upgrade to the executive suite upon request. The executive suite was very spacious, modern, gorgeous views, 2 balconies, and we especially loved the bathtub with mountain and canal views. Our favourite part of our stay were the pools, probably the best fun the girls have had staying at an Australian resort; the freshwater pool with the cave was a hit, we also hired snorkels and water rocket but found there weren’t as many fish as we thought in the lagoon pool. The pool service staff were under the pump with so many guests staying over the long weekend, and all the sunbeds and cabanas were snapped up by 9.30am. However I noticed one of the staff (tall guy with a short beard) constantly moving single freed up sunbeds around trying to accomodate guests looking for somewhere to lounge, this is an example of the excellent service and how staff truly go above and beyond. A special call out to Olivia at pool service, she was amazing and always with a smile and I could not compliment her enough. Another call out to the head chef who I spoke to about dietry requirements who was very accomodating and more than happy to cater to our needs, and the barman at Chapter and Verse who my girls labelled “the best waiter in the world” for the little tricks, sparkles and fun chat.
Whilst overall we had an excellent stay, there are a few things that could do with improvement: there could more of a variety between the room service menu and Chapter and Verse, we had all our meals at the hotel and the two menus are very similar, we could have easily gone into Surfers for meals but being locals we wanted to stay in; and the other thing was that on the first night my family joined us for the seafood buffet at Citrique, we were a large group, they came in 3 cars so after spending a significant amount on the buffet and several hours later they were a little disappointed to learn that parking was not free but at a charge of $5/hr.
Overall a great resort, renovated rooms are modern, outstanding service thanks to the amazing staff, we will be back!

Thank you Marriott for our family’s lovely stay here. We were greeted as soon as we arrived outside , checked in quickly and went straight up to the room. Rooms are fairly spacious and clean, just may need a small revamp to add luxury feel. Bathroom was clean but not up to 5 star standards. What made our trip was the pool area this was unbelievable, the lagoon pool was just what we needed with 2 young kids. We all enjoyed ourselves and the extra added touch of pool bar service was fantastic. Although there were some staff that went the extra mile and others that were just there to work. I think when customers are paying such high amount to stay at the resort service has to be 5 star at all times.
The breakfast was perfect and suitable for adults and kids. chefs had no problem full filling a request that was not on show so thank you very much.
Although our stay was fantastic and we are hoping to return, i would like to point out that the pool side restrooms need major work, they were not up to standard at all. I have been too many resorts overseas that were of much higher quality i expect that in Australia the quality would be better but not here.
May i also suggest with the room it would not hurt some welcome bottled water, welcome fruit or something? All in all these are the things that i can pick on as it was not up to my standards. I do hope to see some improvements in the near future, and my family and i are looking forward to our return here.

I stayed with my husband for 4 nights in March 2021 in an Ocean View guest room.
From a quick review of Gold coast hotels the JW Marriott post renovation is clearly the best available and we were happy with our stay.
The check in process was fast, with a refreshing signature welcome beverage.
The room was of course freshly renovated, clean and stylish. The bed was very plush and comfortable and there was plenty of storage space. The balcony was a nice place to have a drink.
The one con would be the bathroom supplies could be a little more extensive -
why not provide bath salts or bubble bath in a 5 star hotel?
There is also no bottled water supplied, there is an "Eco bottle" for you to fill from the tap and refridgerate yourself.
Some of the floors were yet to recieve the hallway/elevator area to be updated however they are likely updated now months later.
Two of the lifts were out of order for our stay but as the hotel was not particularly full, we did not feel it caused an issue and we didnt have to wait long.
Breakfast buffet on a weekday was to be honest a little lacking and not what I would call an international standard. Options could be more varied rather than the same thing each day and could be more extensive. This could have been due to it being a weekday or because of Covid with no international tourists staying.
The spa area and gym also was in dire need of an update and was disappointingly dim and dull. I was surprised this area was not updated.
The pool is definitely the best of any hotel on the Gold Coast by a mile, and is great for kids. Very fresh and a little cool in March but luckily there were heated spa areas. The weather was rainy for a couple of days whilst we were there and as such there was no pool bar open at these times. Service around the pool whilst the weather was nice was great though. The pina coladas were delicious.
The high tea at the lobby bar Chapter and Verse was extensive and worth getting with sparkling wine and unlimited tea or coffee.
Parking was included with our room rate and very easy to access, spots were available however I could see the carpark becoming very busy on a weekend. Note the carpark is made available to people just coming to eat at the restaurants and not only hotel guests. This might cause problems at busy times.

We went there for Queen Concert, but it's bad decision to stay there for the following reasons:
1. one of their on duty manager saying she can not understand my English - I just asked "Is there any restaurant in hotel?" Is because she just trying to say my English is not good enough to understand?
2. Requested "away from lift, quiet room", yes, it is away from the lift, but our neighbour was having party on and increase the music louder enough to share us and my husband couldn't concentrate on his work at room.
3.Eventually we swapped the "quieter" room instead. but it's not really quiet, the old and cranky fridge keep waking me up , considering we have late night back to hotel, we really only had less than 6 hours sleep because another noise issue.
On the bright side, most of staffs at hotel except the manager who told me my bad English are very very helpful and friendly.
So if you speak "proper" English and don't care about loud music from neighbours and cranky fridges, it's good place to stay.

We put alot of thought in choosing a hotel as it was an overnight birthday celebration before choosing the marriot and we dont live far away so wanted a combo of good accomodation, food and service for the 1 night. Here are the pros and cons
PROS
Great check in, easy and efficient. Checked in at 6pm
Excellent view from rooms. Rooms clean, beds comfie,
Staff well mannered and helpful
Room service for towels etc very good
Nice deep bath and complimentary toiletries
Japanese teppanyaki restaurant excellent and perfect for a birthday celebration
Option for jacoussi at night was nice
Pool area and pools are amazing
Parking onsite excellent
Staff at pool bar great
Concierge lovely
Checkout great
CONS
TVs did not work in both rooms we paid for. Management was called and attended to it but was annoying to need repairs done interfering in the short time we were there
Rooms are dated style, design, colouring, decor in rooms
Elevator floors filthy
A la carte Breakfast was absolutely not 5 star. Maybe 3 star at most. We also had insects in our meals and the strawberries looked old and dried out and reused. Presentation of alacarte dishes was not to standard. Poached eggs were unattractive , tomatoes looked old and reused and waitress gave us attitude at the beginning which was distasteful.
You can order a hot dish but we were told we had to pay for all the extras like mushrooms etc.
if management wants further info and pics we can provide. After complaining a manager came and apologised and offered to rectify the situation which was appreciated as it really put a damper on our morning and celebration.
Patrons need a clear explanation of how exactly breakfast works now without the buffet ... it was most confusing.
Overall we had a great night but I would not call this hotel 5 star compared to other options in the goldcoast especially the presentation and the quality of the breakfast food.

Check in process slow no pre before arrival. Welcome was good.
Breakfast fairly ordinary expect more from Marriott level hptel.
Dinner in Cirque a la carte option lamb rump was excelent as was the dessert. But dropping off the main without a steak knife and then desert without a spoon not great service and these were 2 different wait staff. Cirque restaurant is very busy and noisy with the buffet so paying premium prices for a la carte does not fit. Partner had the Buffet dinner focussed heavily on sea food, if you don't eat seafood options are limited also if you are a late dinner this will not be an option for you.
Service in cirque restaurant and the lobby bar is kind of average. On this stay we went to a bar in surfers where the service and staff presentation blew the hotel level away.
Hotel room very good size spacious and comfortable but not that luxury feel although I fall in love with the pillows. Wish they sold them.
Bathroom large with bath and separate shower. Its aged very well and may have some original and subsequent renovated features.
Lack of pool cave maintenance and need of repair or renovation is really not a good look and needs attention. Why has this not occurred when the lagoon with fish is a key and unique feature for the property. Top of waterfall into salt water lagoon and other areas patched in plastic is not a good look. Appears to have had a patch that has ripped so looks like it's been that way for some time.
Pool and bar snacks good portions but chips were over cooked.
Would like to see more pool service. certainly not of the Asian of Pacific island resort standard.
Happy and ok 3 night staycation.
Should have flaming torches around the pool would be a welcoming evening touch.
Excellent Gym way more than your usual hotel gym. Includes a lot of matrix machine that you would see in a commercial gym. Max barbell weight was only 20kg.
You walk past / though spa area to get to gym, did not look any thing too special.
Over a good stay the hotel pools would rate in the best on the coast. Fix the cave presentation, up the service levels and you would rate a 5 from me.

I agree with the other comments of the recent reviews. It seems we all stayed at the property over the same dates as experiences were identical. Here’s hoping some action comes from all the recent feedback.
Firstly, I acknowledge we chose to stay during school holidays and things can be manic and overpriced during the peak period. Having said that I am not sure why that means a property must sacrifice the basics of hospitality, especially when you’re a 5 Star Hotel with an otherwise excellent reputation. I appreciate COVID impacted staffing levels however I don’t believe it was the only contributing factor to our collective experiences.
I enjoyed breakfast at Citrique and pool early in the morning and we had a great experience at Ruby Spa. Overall, our interactions with the staff were great, friendly etc however they are working under impossible conditions and it shows on their face – where is the management team when they are so overloaded? Normally a Duty Manager/s etc are floating around observing, managing, supporting, and leading.
We noticed a lack of communication in general. No warm welcome or overview of the property other than a few printouts. Why not mention where to find the lifts, the fact the F&B outlets chop and change, or the COVID impacts, how about letting your guests know when things aren’t working on their floor and reassuring them a plan B is in place?
The lack of cleanliness in the room and public areas was surprising but the biggest issue was the pool area. Where do I begin? Those poor fish. If you can’t stop the F&B service around the pool and keep it to the elevated seated areas then staff need to monitor the cleanliness and ensure guests are not sitting in the water with their drinks or letting scraps go into the water along with the plastic cups and other rubbish. There was no facility to recycle the plastic cups either…we pulled out so much rubbish from the pool every afternoon which was depressing.
One final comment on service. We had dinner at Citrique and our waiter was going the extra mile to make it a special experience. I was already planning on writing a great review about his service until it became quite suffocating and disingenuous. The clincher was giving us a business card with his name asking us to write a review about his service then standing over me to check on the tip amount. Not a good look at all.
Would I return? Certainly not at this time of year again and my family would be very hard to convince.

Dear FirouFirou Thank you for providing us with your feedback. I have come to the same conclusion that it was over the same days where we did really struggle with staffing and some areas fell sort to our normal elevated levels of service. I do apologise that your experience was less than what we strive for. Our current staffing challenges do uproot our best contingency plans where even management are also on the front line tasks. We will certainly revisit the training with our Citrique team to ensure its non intrusive and allows our guests to enjoy their experience. Please do not hesitate to reach out on 07-55929800 when your travel plans bring you back. Warm regards Ravinder Dhesi

We’ve just enjoyed 6 nights at the Marriot, I highly recommend staying weekdays off peak if you can.
We loved hanging out at the amazing pool during the week, but found the weekend and public holiday too busy, the only way to be comfortable on those days was to hire a cabana for $500, as the sun beds were snapped up quickly. We also found that during the busy days you wouldn’t see many fish as they hide from the crowds. Also the line for the breakfast buffet was so ridiculously long we skipped it despite having paid for it, we paid again for a bacon and egg roll each by the pool.
We found that the service throughout the resort and restaurants to be almost always amazing. We were lucky enough to be looked after by Iffat while dining in Citrique restaurant, our overtired kids were being an absolute nightmare and she went above and beyond to help us in keeping our children calm and happy while also swiftly providing us and other diners with everything that we could want or need.
We were also lucky enough to be looked after by Robert by the pool on a day that we hired a Cabana, he was just so lovely, nothing was too much and he helped make it a truly wonderful day.
We loved the teppanyaki at Misono and the dinner buffet at Citrique, We also enjoyed the Salmon and kids spaghetti from the in room dining menu. We were however disappointed with the choices for food during weeknights the limited menu at Citrique wasn’t suitable for our family and after 3pm Chapter and Verse offer a condensed menu filled with deep fried foods. The sushi at Misono was yummy but very overpriced and although the Teppanyaki is delish and great entertainment it isn’t something we would enjoy more than once in a week as it’s quite rich, in room dining was lovely, but we didn’t want to sit in the room each night.
Our kids loved the fish feeding each morning and enjoyed spotting water dragons by the pool, they loved their special bracelets and were very excited to flash it at the pool bar each afternoon for a free icy pole. They also loved exploring the resort, finding secret spots and the hidden herb garden with bee hive.
Overall we highly recommend the Marriot! We as a family thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be back again to enjoy the amazing facilities and wonderful service.

Finished our stay on the Gold Coast at the Marriott. What a delightful experience it was. Arriving early to store bags and hoping to use the pool our expectations were exceeded when the agent provided us with a room immediately. Wow the room was spacious and easily fitted 1 adult and 2 children.
Pool area was clean and my children were beyond excited to be snorkelling with fish, the eldest loved the water slide and the beach lagoon area was thoroughly enjoyed by my youngest. Both children used the sea scooter and the free icy poles of an afternoon.
We had meals by the pool, room service and at the outdoor restaurant area. All meals were great, Marriott cater so well for children with a decent variety of kids meals. For adults the cocktails by the pool were thoroughly enjoyable!
Overall an amazing stay, definitely need to stay longer next time so we can experience the kids activities. Thanks to the team across all the touch points, the technology used at the property is superior from using your mobile as a key, in app messaging to both reception and request assistance to collect bags. Well done team and thank you

Some hits and some huge misses:
The room was nice but quite small for 2 doubles and beware the beds are definitely only doubles. The main issue we had was noise. There was some sort of strange loud clunking noise that occurred during the night, we complained after night one of broken sleep and they said they would send someone to look at it which they did but nothing was actually “fixed” so the noise continued. The ladies on reception said they would follow up with us about this, but didn’t. On the second day the toilet broke and great that someone was sent to fix it, what was not so great was having some handyman in the bathroom for over an hour at 5pm when our family of 4 all needed to shower and change for our dinner reservations that night. I just think both of these complaints could have been handled better with more follow up and care. The clunking noise continued sporadically throughout our 3 nights, and on the last night woke us up about 4 times. I was offered ear plugs and then a free takeaway coffee when I complained for a third time. The customer service around this issue was absolutely appalling to me for a 5 star hotel and totally ruined the trip for me.
The lobby, grounds and pool are all amazing, we spent a lot of time by the pool with our kids. It can be hard to get a good deck chair but usually always got one eventually. The pool food menu is also really limited so after the first day we went offsite for lunch most days. We ate at mizuno for dinner and it was fantastic, and although our kids enjoyed the show, they barely ate anything any at $30 per child it felt expensive for them. Totally worth the cost for adults though. We did the buffet breakfast once and it was good, not amazing but had a solid selection and was fairly fresh. But had nothing on the buffets at some of the other big name hotels we have eaten at. We discovered a lovely cafe called bumbles a few mins walk from the hotel on the river side and absolutely recommend this for breakfast and the playground by the water for the kids! Went to the day spa for a massage which was average, the change rooms and waiting area felt very budget, the massage itself was ok.
My kids had a great time but 3 nights of broken sleep means we won’t be back. Do NOT recommend this hotel for rest and relaxation!

Only in the Spa, I believe there is a $ 50 charge for use of those facilities unless you ar also having a treatment, in which case it is included
There is a mini mart under the hotel complex across the road and a full supermarket about 10 minutes away
