Disgusting. Checked in today (New Years eve) and checked out less than 10 minutes later due to a family emergency. We paid $230 for the night and they refused to give us a refund given our circumstances. Not to mention, the room was filthy, full of mould and smelt like cigarettes. I wouldn’t even let my dogs stay here. Reception staff are disgustingly rude.
Arrived on a Saturday lunch time - no reception only after hours. Found our sliding door would not open, rang after hours - "WAIT TILL MONDAY OR PAY FOR ANOTHER ROOM" . No care whatsoever, there is no one onsite so the locals drop of their kids who all use the pool, making it too busy for guests. Rooms very tired.
This is a budget hotel so if you are expecting something fancy i.e. bar and restaurant, forget all about booking in here. Our first night there, we were booked into a room where there was no air con remote, there was no TV remote, no plug for the bath and the ceiling fan was noisy as hell. Once we alerted management to the problems, they moved us to another room without a hassle. The 2nd room had everything that was necessary for a 6 night stay. While it was basic, the bed was comfortable, the fridge kept our drinks cool, and the air con and ceiling fan worked with no issues. The place itself is very run down, and could definitely use updating and more attention payed to keeping it cleaner. While the room was impeccably clean when we arrived, it was not serviced once in the whole week we were there. Rubbish on the ground near the bins, stairs in desperate need of a sweep. Just general details not attended to let it down. The pool is awesome and is the best part of the Rainbow Inn. Did not have an issue with any of the long term tenants. Any of them I had dealings with were polite and friendly. It does not get any better than this place for location. 15 minute walk to the Cairns Central Shopping Centre, 20 minute stroll to the Lagoon and a 400 meter walk to a Night Owl. You get what you pay for and if it's budget with zero frills you are after, this is the place for you. If not, pay more and stay elsewhere. Overall, I would recommend this place to couples or singles.....not families with kids.…
Let me start this review with the preface that every Uber driver that took us to the Rainbow Resort was concerned we wouldn’t make it out. Along with the questionable bodily fluid stains on the sheets, we were accompanied by many little creepy crawly friends in the bathroom and in the kitchen. The disingenuous photos that were only the tip of the iceberg of the lies and fairytales that we were led to believe about the resort. The addition of three frequently coming and going commodores really added to the experience. Take it from a girl who’s stayed in a polish hostel, you can find anything better. *the reception staff were very nice and accomodating
Such a let down. Room we got looked nothing like the photos on booking.com, it was old and rundown. There was no plates or cutlery, Water glasses were dirty, no hand towels or face cloths, room smelt, sheets and pillows smelt, blankets in the cupboard smelt worse of all and our room had no smoke alarm (it did have the bracket for it). Reception chick was nice. Honestly unless you book right on Cairns Prominade in a expensive resort I wouldn't bother. Cairns is old and very busy. In hindsight we should have booked at either Port Douglas, Kuranda or Ellis Beach.
