Strolling past heading back to our hotel to go to the airport and popped in for a quick beer. Real old school pub feel. Staff were both helpful and friendly. Good range of tap beers and huge (100) range of bottled beers available.

Came here for dinner to try some of the gourmet pizzas with emu, roo and croc. For a pub it was a bit pricey ($26,- for reg size) - but it is in the Rocks, in Sydney. The crocodile pizza was interesting as it was 'Thai style'flavor wise, the croc itself was a bit chewy, so probably not something I... More

Happened across this good looking pub and stopped here for lunch & it was ok. Friendly staff, ok Mediterranean pizza but the kids chicken & chips was a bit dry. It's over priced for what you get but that is to be expected in this tourist hot spot.

It's not the big fancy motel but the staff are great and we will be staying there again. The accommodation is above a pub but keeping that in mind, we didn't think it was too noisy in the rooms. While we were there, there was a problem with a couple of other guests and the staff handled it professionally and... More

The pizzas used to be fantastic in here with home made bases, however they've now changed to shop bought cardboard bases!! Toppings remain the same, plentiful and tasty but completely wasted by the artificial bases. $25 seems steep now for a frozen pizza base. Won't be eating again unfortunately!

I've taken overseas guests here a few times, more for the uniqueness of the kangaroo and crocodile pizzas than anything else. The other food is generally good too, the usual food you'd expect from a pub. It can get very busy so plan accordingly. It's a fun place to visit if you're in the area.

I was really looking forward to coming to this restaurant and trying their famous kangaroo and emu pizza. I ordered the small and it certainly lived up to its name..... Small. Tiny pizza on a shop bought base! So what sounds like a gourmet pizza of kangaroo emu and cranberry is a cheap spongy shop bought pizza base quickly decorated... More

Have been to Sydney a few times and when I am wondering around the Rocks area I always stop at the Australian for a great pizza for lunch. Its a quirky pub and the pizza's never disappoint. Sit in the sun with beer and pizza, who could ask for more on a lazy day.

We had the family room which is two bedrooms, very large combined dining/ living room and combined bathroom/ toilet. We weren't expecting much from this hotel being that is was only a 2 star hotel, but upon arriving we weren't sure which entrance to use to access the accommodation so we asked one of the bar staff, who immediately stopped... Family went here. It's a bar with food. The coat of arms pizza was interesting (half kanagroo, half emu). Good potato wedges and fries. Eclectic furnishings. Cold temps inside. Nice staff. Prices were reasonable (not easy to find in Sydney)

Staying in The Rocks

Neighbourhood Profile
The Rocks
The first residents of the Rocks were convicts and sailors from the old nation. As the oldest neighbourhood in the city, the area's cobblestone streets host more than 100 heritage sites and buildings, including the oldest house in Sydney, Camden Cottage, which was built in 1816. Taste a “midi “ or a “schooner” of beer and dine “al fresco” on the waterfront at some of the oldest pubs in Sydney. The weekend markets at the Rocks are where you can find local artists' hand-made souvenirs, organic food and designer jewelry in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. To enjoy some of the best Australian and international contemporary art, the MCA museum is open every day and select evenings. At the end of a long day of sightseeing, be sure to save energy to dance the night away at the area's many late night entertainment venues.
