The Ultimo was the perfect one night stop over for a recent business trip to Sydney. It was within walking distance to the office and an easy $10 Uber to Circular Quay for dinner. I loved the astrology angle to the checkin process and the rooms where neat and clean. Excellent value for money for a Sydney hotel.

Stayed for 4 nights at the Ultimo for the first time, good location close to Haymarket, Paddys Market, China Town and Darling Harbour. Easy walking to both city centre and to the Rocks. Close to Central also for train travel and airport link

Great location, very central. Very contemporary rooms, which was nice; great linen & comfy bed. I didn't find the area particularly noisy but also stayed during the week rather than the weekend. Desk area was small but very comfy chair considering I found myself working in it longer than I would have liked. Love the natural toiletries supplied & the...

Located just opposite "Paddy's Market" this is a lovely hotel. Very close to China Town and just a quick walk to Darling Harbor its was the ideal location for our fun escapade in Sydney. The rooms are funky, freshly painted and clean, reception staff polite and friendly, a special touch was my horoscope advice. Bonus is that we did not...

Best value hotel I have stayed at. Clean, bright, comfortable room with all the little things taken care of. Staff were very friendly and professional. Tried to pay to upgrade my room before arriving but was told all rooms were booked. Upon checking in the staff member upgraded my room for free for the entirety of my week long stay....

Hi nayb, what an amazing review. It's lovely to see that everything worked for you during your week away from home. The walk to ICC and Darling Harbour is a very quick and a nice walk now there is a short cut from Paddies Market into Darling park. We look forward to seeing you again on your next trip. Regards,...

I booked a Single room but didn't expect it to be so tiny. It was basically a single bed in a corridor. It's clean and the staff were nice, but this was definitely not a four star hotel experience. The TV is only viewable from some uncomfortable side-chairs, not the bed. Not that it mattered as the TV arial wasn't...

Hi travelsofalili - thank you for your review and I'm so disappointed to hear that you didn't enjoy your time with us. Thanks for the image, we have had our maintenance tech fix this back into the wall socket. Our single room is the smallest of our room types and is certainly priced accordingly. You would be happy to know...

Hotel is in a good but busy location. Unfortunately, the air-conditioning was too warm (and it's not adjustable) and we didn't get a good night sleep. The hotel also charges for the bottles of water in the room although it was labeled with a price.

Hi Richard, thank you for the feedback. We sell Thank You water in the hotel as they donate money back to a charity that provides clean water to the less fortunate. Thanks for the note re the air con, this has been resolved now. Regards, Scott

We arrived early after disembarking a cruise ship and were given a room straight away, which was great with our two exhausted children. Staff were friendly and helpful and location was great - close to Pasdy's Market, a couple of supermarkets and lots of great Asian food! I highly recommend this hotel.

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
Tiger-flanked archways on Dixon Street mark the entrance to the “little Asia” of Sydney. A walk through Chinatown is a feast for the senses where aromas, tastes, sounds and visions of dancing tigers transport you to a different world. Chinatown visitors can expect a melting pot of Asian food at the neighbourhood's specialty delis and groceries. From yum cha to handmade noodles, BBQ ducks hanging in the window to Asian sweets and bakeries, there is something for all tastes. Paddy’s Markets is the largest flea market in Sydney where you can find souvenirs, clothing, gifts and fruit and vegetables at unbeatable prices. At night, Chinatown comes alive with entertainment including theatre, nightclubs and bars that are open until the early morning.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Ultimo features modern accommodation in the vibrant Chinatown district. Constructed in 1911 as a key component in Haymarket’s transition to become Sydney’s fresh fruit market, the heritage-listed building is a reminder of Sydney’s bustling and vibrant commercial heritage which continues to this day. After an extensive refurbishment in 2016, the character of the hotel was transformed to showcase its original historic roots within a contemporary setting as seen through its exposed brick walls and graphic tile. You will experience an iconic story of heritage meets industrial modernism, East meets West, New York in China Town ... more   less
