Didn't start well, trying to get into the place was a bit of a nightmare. the construction isn't helping and nor was the Aria Awards set up blocking the entire drive. Staff didn't know where check in was so you were walking from one end to the other to find it and then get to your room. Room is elegant but depressing and uncomfortable. We were upgraded to a 2 bedroom but you don't get a bath, just 3 showers which was what I paid for so that was disappointing. The couch was the most uncomfortable ever, like sitting on a block of concrete. The mini bar was not stocked properly, missing whisky, bourbon, white wine, rum, tequila etc. Phones don't work properly. Lights are impossible to figure out, just push every button until something happens. Sat out to admire the view and the cockroaches nearly carried us off. Rubbish jammed in between glass railings and glass filthy. When we discovered we had feather pillows I rang "guest services" a misnomer because I received anything but. She said she didn't think the hotel had any. I asked f she would confirm, after much pushing she said she would but didn't. How can you not have foam pillows in a 5 star - what about feather allergies? Also, my pet hate was there was a Doona but no top sheet, so if the Doona is too hot then you have to have nothing, which is too cold. Also, it had a big pocket where the doona goes in so kept getting our feet tangled in it. Hence I didn't sleep well at all, the whole point of being in the hotel. I woke up every half an hour to adjust something. Shame as the king sized bed was comfortable. To Food and beverage. We were looking for one of the advertised elegant bars, but Black was closed for private function though no sign was posted on the door to tell anyone and Cherry was just closed. That leaves the Sports bar, and the main bar which is in the middle of the casino and has next to no seating. Both have dreadful atmospheres or none at all. Talk about total let down after reading the website and all the fab cocktails we cannot have. Felt like I was in a huge RSL with as lacklustre beverage offerings as that. We said years ago we'd never return, just sorry we did. Navigating around the place is difficult too with it very hard to find where you should be going, real rabbit warren. Major renovations are going on but I cannot see what is being renovated, just as tired and lacking in any grace as it was back then.

Can’t imagine staying here for a normal Sydney visit, best for Casino habituees, but the rooms are very good. Fortunate to be upgrade ona larger apartment in the Residences but assume the basics are similar.
The bed was very comfortable, one of the best I have had in years and the lights (one of my normal pet hates) were superb.
You could control the brightness yourself,; most hotel rooms are too dark but here you had options of low to very bright - how smart is that.
The internet was good, fast and allowed multiple devices.
Another pet hate is the tv remote/control - so often you spend too long going from source to which option you want and then scrolling down dozens of options till you find the station you want.
This was very user friendly.
A small niggle is the quality of bath towels and soaps, not up to the overall quality of the apartment

I organized this as a 2 night stay as a surprise for my husband’s birthday. It was between this hotel and another and I spoke with Jonathan in Reservation, who was extremely patient and helpful, so after some thought I decided to book with Astral Tower and extremely happy with this decision.

I booked a Superior King Room and opted for the non-refundable and no amendment option which was cheaper but realized close to the day it does not have a bathtub, which is challenging when you have a 11-month old baby. I called and asked if there were any of the same room with a bathtub and they didn’t, but they would make note and see what they could do. I had also asked if we could check-in earlier and check-out later due to my baby’s nap time and to re-check the morning of our stay, and they were extremely understanding and allowed us to do so.

We went to Black for lunch (good but not as good as it used to be, potentially less creative compared to their dinner option?) whilst they organized the room for us and sms me when it was ready to collect the room key. They generously upgraded us to the Star Suite which was beautiful and had a big bathtub, and a lovely note along with chocolates and sparkling water to wish us a enjoyable stay and birthday, which was a lovely way to start our stay. They turned down our room when we went out for dinner and left a small hand cream gift on the bed, which was a lovely touch and I think of our stay every time I use it.

They also organized a cot for our baby which is a proper cot which helped our baby settle in well. The bedroom blinds can be closed with a switch which helped him sleep even in the middle of the day. We considered having his cot in the living room but there are no block-out blinds so we weren’t sure he would sleep well so had him in our room that first night and we all slept badly as he normally sleeps in his own room. Note - we had him sleep in the living room the second night as we all slept incredibly well. We used his pram and draped a cloth over the pram to block out the sun in the morning which helped. Note to management - if you ever consider it, block out curtains in the living room would be lovely in such cases.

I ordered room service of the morning of my husband’s birthday and they wished him a happy birthday and gave us extra juice and pastries, which was a lovely touch. I had booked a surprise massage for my husband at The Darling and they organized a birthday cake for him and so he was relaxed and spoilt - exactly what I was hoping for.

We tried their pool out and it’s amazing, especially if you have kids as part of the pool is perfectly heated which is great for little ones as they don’t get cold at all.

We went to Sokyo for dinner which was not children friendly and very rushed - we were in and out within 45min as the table was booked after us so it was disappointing given this was my husband’s birthday dinner and we didn’t enjoy it at all. The food was still good but not exceptional and nothing was done to acknowledge his birthday. I think we might have been better eating elsewhere or getting room service and won’t be back again at Sokyo.

On the last morning we tried the breakfast buffet at $20 per adult at Harvest. It has a good selection and very clean but not on par as the international hotels overseas, especially on the dim sums but still good. I’m not sure we would eat there every morning unless it was complimentary but good option.

There was also a promotion of free parking which made it a great way to get travel with a baby so appreciate this promotion.

We are already thinking of staying here again given the amazing luxurious room, amazing and thoughtful service, and the wonderful heated pool that is children friendly although would consider a bigger room. The location is great, being so close to Darling Harbour also and have already recommended to family and friends with kids.
Thank Jacqui

Stayed at the Astral Tower in the star for an extended period.

The rooms and amenities in this hotel are definitely 5 star however the service level and food quality is only 4 star.

The hotel has great location and fantastic rooms with some really great views with a great gym and pool also available but there are major let downs in terms of service and food.

- complete lack of bell service. You pretty much have to drag your own luggage up to your room because there is hardly ever anyone available.
- Food quality is shocking! Save your money and just go out and eat. There are plenty of good options available in the food courts below.
- House keeping is not consistent.

The Astral tower in my view is really a hybrid between a serviced apartment and a 5 star hotel and it shows. If you are after a true 5 star hotel experience you would be better served staying at the Darling instead in my opinion. Prices are pretty much the same.

Our party of eight booked four double rooms for four nights last week. To say we were pleasantly surprised by the Astral Tower is an understatement. We have stayed in many hotels but this place definitely has the BEST beds and bedding we have ever experienced. Our room was so nice and dark in the mornings and super quiet - we did not have the view as some of our friends had - but they actually also said their rooms were not as quiet as ours. The robes and towels were super new and fluffy. The attention to detail with storage and lots of power points in the bathroom was much appreciated. The room service was prompt and delicious. The swimming pool area is great with the pool half under cover and half outside and the gorgeous cabanas are a treat. The bonus of having a $20 buffet breakfast (this price for inhouse guests) was over and above what most places offer. I am not a casino person at all but this place is definitely one I will return to. Great value for money considering the five star aspects.
