Hyatt Regency Sydney garners appreciation for its prime location and the modern comfort of its spacious rooms, with many guests enjoying the stunning harbor views. However, opinions diverge on the hotel's atmosphere and service, with some finding the décor dated and the ambiance less cozy, and others experiencing issues with staff communication. While cleanliness is generally commended, noise levels from both the city and within the hotel itself have been a point of contention. Furthermore, guests have called out the value, questioning the balance between cost and quality, especially with additional charges.

We first arrived here and immediately thought how stunning the reception looked! The overly large decorated Christmas tree, the marble flooring etc. it was very modern and glamorous!

We arrived there quite early at 10 am after a very long flight from England and we knew that the check in wasn't until 3pm but we thought we would try and see if they could accomdate us. The lady at the reception desk was most helpful and stored our luggage and said that a member of staff would take it to our room when it was ready. The lady also invited us to the executive lounge on the 12th floor to have breakfast whilst we waited for our room, which was only about an hour after arrival.

The room was adequate and the decor was modern. The view was breathtaking, you could see Darling Harbour and parts of Sydney Skyline.

On the morning we had breakfast at the hotel which was excellent, The fresh egg station and the extremely courteous and friendly staff making all the difference. asked Peter the concierge for directions on our first day and not only was he able to organise the hop on/hop off tour tickets he even walked us to the location where the bus would pick us up.

In the afternoons, after a busy day of sight seeing, our family would go to the executive lounge for refreshments. There was a large variety of hot and cold beverages alongside crips (potato chips), nuts and biscuits. In the evenings further snacks and a large variety of alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages were made available. There was also a live cooking station.

The staff every where, from reception, to house keeping, to execeutive lounge were absolutely amazing. We would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to everyone and will definitely stay here again on any future visit to Sydney. The hotel should be proud of their staff and treasure them

The Hyatt Regency is a higher end hotel at a great location in Sydney, my wife and I could easily walk to most of the key sites within 20 or so minutes. The ferry service was 5 minutes away. We can't speak highly enough about the breakfast buffet, the food was high quality and extremely varied. We had one dinner there and the food was on par with a higher end restaurant. The room was quite comfortable and clean.

Stayed for 4 nights from 2nd December with my boyfriend (now fiancé as we got engaged while we were in Sydney!). The lobby and bar area of the hotel are lovely and our room was great too. We paid for King Size Harbour View and that’s what we got, with a great view of Darling Harbour. Housekeeping came daily to turn down the bed, replenish the coffee bar and clean, robes, toiletries, slippers and towels provided. Staff friendly and helpful.

We visited the perfumery which is situated past the elevators towards the luggage store room. I made my own perfume and the lady in there was very friendly and helpful. A nice keepsake for our trip.

The sky bar was a great place for a drink and to take in the view, we went here on a Sunday and it was quite quiet.

We found a nice Cafe round the corner (turn left out of the front of the hotel, go over the foot bridge to the left and it’s on the right hand side of the road on the corner) the pancakes and waffles there were very nice.

This hotel would make an okay 4 star hotel but is no where near the standard of any of Sydney's 5 star hotels, yet it charges like it is.The rooms are tiny, dated and worn out, if you have to stay at this hotel at least choose a room in the new wing otherwise your room will reflect nothing better than an Ibis that for some reason can get away with charging $400 a night. With the exception of a couple suites, no rooms in this hotel have bathtubs and the bathrooms are as small as they get, the towel hooks are also in the shower, which meant the towels got wet every time. The drinking glasses in both the bathroom and mini bar were horrendously dirty, 100% were not washed between guests and appeared to be just wiped with a dirty rag. The breakfast was severely understaffed, tables were messy and several buffet items were empty at any one time. Daily housekeeping service is more like a quick remake of the bed with 3 day old linen (seriously linen change only every 3 days??) The bin was not emptied and incidental rubbish items were not removed.

The hotel lacks basic 5* amenities including a pool, there are very few, if any, 5* hotels in Sydney that don't have decent pool and spa facilities. The lobby area is modern, and the staff are mostly okay, its not directly their fault the property is mostly aged and overpriced. I just cannot stress enough how for the rates this hotel charges you must stay elsewhere, the Hilton Sydney, the Sofitel Darling Harbour, The Four Seasons, The Marriott, The Intercontinental- i have stayed at them all and they are just infinitely better value. I have also stayed at the Park Hyatt in Sydney which is just stunning, the complete antithesis of this property- Hyatt should not have its name associated with this hotel (maybe as a hyatt place). If you're expecting a 5 star hotel experience, stay anywhere but here. This is not a 5 star hotel!

Firstly, this is more of a review of their post-stay service than the service and hospitality we received while staying. The short version is that we were charged almost double without being told by staff at check in our check out of our 3 night stay.

We arrived late on Friday night and the checkin process was extremely quick. We were told that an imprint of my partners card was needed for check in, which was fine and we're aware that's normal procedure. We had a great stay, and the hotel itself is fantastic, if not a little dated in certain areas, but it's made up for in service and other amenities.

During check out, a staff member approached us in the line and advised us that they could help us check out quickly, took our room cards and sent us on our way. Today, my partner has tried to use her card to get groceries, only to find that the payment declined. When checking her account, there were 2 seperate charges on hold, both for hundreds of dollars. Embarrassed by the situation, she called the hotel and was shrugged off by the staff member she spoke to, not really getting a proper explanation. I called and was passed around from 2 staff in Manila, then eventually I was put through to the actual hotel.

After explaining the situation to the staff, they apologised and advised that they have faxed the bank to release the funds, which may still take days depending on the bank. I was advised that the first charge was a holding deposit of the entire stay and that we should have been notified of this when we checked in, the second charge was also for the entire stay + a bottle of wine from the mini bar.

The first issue is we were never told of the deposit. We were only advised of an imprint of the card being made.

The second issue is that if a deposit is being held, why then would you charge the card a second time while there's a hold for the ENTIRE booking? Even if there was a small extra charge, why not just charge that separately or add that to the held funds?

The third issue was the lack of empathy from the staff who we spoke to. Hundreds of dollars was gone without explanation from my parter's account and after the humiliation, a half hearted apology isn't good enough.

We will be thinking twice about stay with Hyatt again, and will be recommending our friends and family do the same.

The hotel is nice enough but when you scratch deeper you do question the 5 star rating.
Rooms are small - even on the Club floor on 11. Bathrooms are tiny but clean.
They promote Sydney tap water and charge for any bottled water used.
The Club is over rated and always busy during the peak times. Coffee is made with an auto machine and is never hot.
We tried breakfast downstairs in the restaurant, what a mistake, it’s huge, busy and uninviting.
And don’t bother with the signature roof top bar on 12. If you like doof doof music at 1000 decibels and expensive half strength cocktails - go, other wise find another venue!
Even the driveway is badly planned out front - it goes the wrong way and causes mayhem most of the time.

We have stayed at other Hyatt branches including Dubai, wow what can I say about this particular branch is like a insult to Hyatt hotels. The rooms were just average we stayed on the same floor where the club lounge was.
The walkway to our room the smell of the carpet and Hallway was terrible it was so bad we almost felt like puking the carpet is filthy so dirty and stinky man they seriously need to do something about that.
Everybody walking past by was making faces I felt Sorry for the people staying on the same level it was a horrible smell i can’t even explain how disgusting the smell was worse bit it stayed the whole time we stayed there. I even complained about the smell nothing was done like even a simple air freshener. Or perhaps it’s high time the hotel changed their carpet on that level. It certainly is a disgusting unpleasant smell all the way to the lounge.
The club lounge is average than again not up to Hyatt standards at all. Their coffee always comes out cold from their coffee machine asked the lady she said that’s just how it is. The food was average nothing to feel good about. I would recommend people to save their money and better to go stay even at Novotel which has direct access to harbour plaza shopping mall and far much cleaner and better service they have and you pay quite less compared to this hotel.
Perhaps the only good thing about the hotel I coulda at was the views of the harbour were beautiful from our room there was nothing else I liked about this place. I would rather go
Somewhere else Next time. Thank you but I will never visit this hotel ever again.

We checked in on February 26 to room 406. The front desk staff, concierge staff, valet and bell persons staff were fantastic. Friendly, knowledgeably and efficient. We used the concierge service throughout our stay and they always provided great advice and booked our airport transfers for March 1 departure date.

The breakfast buffet was overpriced and the offerings were not exceptional Basic breakfast fare, but again, service was impeccable.

Our major concern was with housekeeping. We continually had to ask for flat sheets. The standard set up was a comforter with no top sheet. Really gross considering there were noticeable stains on the comforter. In addition, the housekeeper left her cleaning gloves on our bathroom vanity right next to medications. Again, completely unacceptable.

The hotel does not have a swimming pool which we were shocked to learn when we inquired. It's a business hotel in the middle of the CBD - lack of a swimming pool is a noticeable deficiency.

The final nail in the coffin was that on the day before our departure on March 1st, they painted hallways on the fourth floor. The fumes were overwhelming. We tried to block door thresholds with towels to no avail. We did not request a room change because it would have been too disruptive the day before departure. I am writing this review from a hospital in my home town with respiratory issues directly related to the pain fumes.

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this hotel. This is the first review I have written in 20 years of extensive travelling.

Overall a really nice stay. Was surprised to see that they were serving buffet breakfast again, but it seemed that everything was very clean and well sanitised so we were not worried. The view of the harbour was great (I paid $40 on the day to upgrade).
Only blip was that they offered us $25 pp breakfast deal if we booked this on the day of arrival. At no time were we informed that this had to be booked by a certain time - just so long as it was on the day that we arrived. In fact I thought the staff member at check-in said 'before midnight'. However when I called to book this deal at around 1015pm that night, they did not want to give us this deal saying it was too late. Eventually the staff member I spoke to conceded and booked us in for the deal. It either needs to be made clearer to guests that this offer needs to be secured by a certain time, or communicated to staff that guests have until midnight on the date of arrival to book the breakfast deal.
The lamps either side of the bed did not work but we did not inform staff as we didn't want to move. Other than that, everything else was very nicely furnished, very clean.
Breakfast was quite nice, the usual hotel buffet deal. The chef came to see us at the end and was very friendly and kind.

The Hyatt regency has very nice rooms to stay in, nice and modern. The view we had from our room was fantastic and made up the stay here. The room was always clean and bed re made when we came back, they even folded some of our baby stuff that we left out /tidied it up. The staff were very friendly and helpful with everything. I think the only downside about the experience here would be that the food we ordered from room service was so expensive, pretty average and the serving size was small, ontop of that we had to pay $8 for it to be delivered. We also had no cutlery in our room, the laundry was also very expensive; we were told it’s $6.50 for pair of socks, or $14 a shirt not even dry cleaned.

I would recommend this place to people and probably consider coming back, but I would definitely be looking into options other than here for food and laundry.

In all the rooms I have stayed in there was only one king bed. They might have a rollaway bed/ pull out sofa bed that can be used or different room configurations - best ask the hotel directly.

Hi there! Yes, they will hold your luggage for you free or charge. I have no answer for the buffet dinner. You can check at the reception. There are plenty of good restaurants in the area. On another note, I can recommend having breakfast at Hyatt - it's amazing and the service is excellent!

It is NOT open. I was there in January/February and in June/July. Breakfast is complimentary in the main restaurant, and I got a room upgrade (very appreciated) but no cocktails, as the previous guest :( Since I need to be back in October, I asked, and they have no plans to re-open it. I'm globalist, but also Bonvoy Titanium Elite and I'm evaluating to go to Marriott - where business lounge normally operates - even if it is not so convinient for my location :(

A 5 min walk to the Queen Victoria Building (QVB) gives access to Wynyard Station. Outside the QVB on George Street you can find the light rail. Short walk to Barangaroo for a ferry to Circular Quay.
