Clean and modern hostel. Amazing location with a view of the harbour. Bathrooms in the rooms, so need to carry your toiletries around. Exceptionally clean. Great facilities including rooftop seating area with Hammocks and bean bags. Great kitchen area and cafe facilities. Also very clean. I had a really smooth pleasant 1 night stay. I would have loved to stay... More

Hi Thanks for your review and we're pleased you had a great stay. Just to let you know though that we strongly recommend guests with luggage to not get off the train at Circular Quay, but rather Wynyard station. From there it is a flat 5 minute walk. We have a map and directions on our website! See you again... More

Great spot to spend the night inexpensively in the centre of sydney. 2min walk from circular quay, friendly staff, clean rooms, safe area to wonder around at night. Large common areas to mix with other travellers, cooking facilities and food available

This is a perfect place to stay if you want to be central to everything. Circular quay is only a 5 minute walk away and the city is close by also. The roof top offers great views over Sydney. The rooms are basic (we had a private 3 bed room with private bathroom.) It was neat, tidy and clean and... More

Had a private room, in an absolutely fantastic location at a fraction of the cost of the surrounding prices, including AirBnB! Met fantastic people and had an amazing time in Sydney!! The room was simple but had everthing I needed, and the bathroom was pretty good as well! The only con, the floor of the room should be cleaned more... More

I honestly dont know where to start in terms of praising this hostel. It is such great value and in such an enviable location i would defy anyone not to enjoy it here. We booked a family room with en suite which was spacious, clean and had the best shower in any hostel we've ever stayed in. This YHA has... More

Located in the oldest and arguably the coolest part of Sydney - The Rocks - the Sydney Harbour YHA hostel was an amazing place to stay during our Aussie adventure. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the beautiful views advertised were real and not over-hyped!! No worries on capturing awesome pictures of the Opera house morning, day or night.... More

A really comfortable and economic place to stay while travelling alone or with friends. The location is marvellous- presents a direct view of Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge, even from the window of some rooms. Every attraction is hardly walking distance. Metro harbour line is next door and busses to all parts are available. Ferry's are available just downstairs.... More

Very central location, spotlessly clean, comfortable and also very interesting and enjoyable. The building is on an archeological site - fascinating. An excellent place to stay in Sydney - we say this as two fifty somethings!

I honestly can't imagine a better option for budget/mid-range accomodation in Sydney, and I am SO glad I booked a room here. Location is simply ideal, can't get better than that. The view from the rooftop is something I would only expect from high-end hotels in Sydney. The staff was extremely friendly (as the atmosphere) and helpful, The room was... More

This was the start of our year away and the only issue is the fact that we have such a high expectation of all hostels over in Australia and New Zealand now. Obviously we know that not a lot of hostels compare to this place. The view from the terrace is spectacular, day and night. The kitchen in clean. The... More

Staying in The Rocks

Neighbourhood Profile
The Rocks
The first residents of the Rocks were convicts and sailors from the old nation. As the oldest neighbourhood in the city, the area's cobblestone streets host more than 100 heritage sites and buildings, including the oldest house in Sydney, Camden Cottage, which was built in 1816. Taste a “midi “ or a “schooner” of beer and dine “al fresco” on the waterfront at some of the oldest pubs in Sydney. The weekend markets at the Rocks are where you can find local artists' hand-made souvenirs, organic food and designer jewelry in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. To enjoy some of the best Australian and international contemporary art, the MCA museum is open every day and select evenings. At the end of a long day of sightseeing, be sure to save energy to dance the night away at the area's many late night entertainment venues.
