The Little National Hotel garners praise for its comfortable beds and modern amenities like the lounge and library, with a serene atmosphere that guests appreciate. The location is deemed convenient by many travelers, who enjoy proximity to Canberra's attractions. However, service experiences vary, with some staff coming across as unfriendly, and noise from construction has been a concern for some.
While rooms are recognized as small and occasionally too warm, the overall cleanliness is lauded. Mixed views are seen regarding the value, considering extra costs for certain essentials.

Detailed Reviews
I stayed at the at the Little National Hotel for 5 nights. 3 of which I shared with my daughter. We had 2 large luggages plus another 2 carry on bags. This made moving around the room a little tricky. However, the bed is very comfortable even for 2 people to sleep in. I love that the light switches are on the headboard behind my bed and both left and right sides had our respective switches behind. My favourite are the blackout blinds and the day curtain controlled by switches on the wall. So when the blinds are fully opened, we have a full view of the exterior - this really helps to open up the room a lot.
I had to pay for underground parking which was AUD12/night. I was told the open car park which is next to the hotel is free from 5pm to 7am. If one managed one's time properly, free parking is possible.
I did not have the opportunity to enjoy the F&B outlet but I did make myself some complimentary coffee at "The Library" where there's a pantry and also plenty of modern and comfortable seating.
Overall the staff I had encountered were very friendly, helpful & efficient. If there was ONE thing I would suggest improvement, it would be more consistent dusting. The panels at the headboard are all black, and when I switch on the mood lighting (which is beautiful and soothing) but I was very disturbed to see the dust on the headboard. As I was busy daily, I didn't make it a point to mention to the staff, but each night when I switched on the lights, the dust was still there. It is a huge turn off as I go to bed feeling like I will be breathing in dust.
I also managed to enjoy the pool in a sister hotel's gym. It is a short 3 mins walk across the road. It is smaller than I would've liked but I can see that it is popular with guests. I managed to get some exercise swimming in it. There is also a gym next to the pool with shower facilities and toiletries provided.

My partner and I recently took up the offer of the 'date night package' which can be found on the hotel's website. It consisted of a 1 night stay, champagne and chocolates on arrival, free parking, $50 to spend at Ostani and a boxed breakfast.
We had such a wonderful getaway - very relaxing and we loved the uniqueness of the hotel. We spent some time by the fireplaces in the lounge and enjoyed free coffee from the machine in the library.
We booked Ostani for dinner and it was great! The boxed breakfast was just some croissants, a mandarin and a chia pudding - so it was great but left a little bit wanting.
The bed was so cosy, we slept with the blinds open so we could see the stars out the window. The only let-down was that the room was super dusty. It wasn't too bad when we first got there but as the day/night progressed more and more dust appeared!
We are going to gift the date night package for Father's Day because we enjoyed it so much!

For my first trip to Canberra, the Little National popped up on a Qantas hotel listing. I booked it without much of a hesitation as it was very keenly priced and seemed to offer everything one needs for a one night stay.
I arrived from Sydney in the early afternoon and took an Uber to the hotel which, despite being part of a multi-storey carpark doesn't give that impression as you arrive. The receptionist was very friendly and welcoming and quickly processed my reservation. My room was on the fifth floor and looked out onto the surrounding area. It wasn't the largest I've ever had, but for one night was perfectly fine. One side of the bed is up against the large picture window (how do the housekeeping staff make all these beds with one side pretty difficult to access?) with a large television at the foot of the bed. There was a nice touch of a teapot and cups on a tray on the bed.
The bathroom is modern and well equipped with a powerful shower. There are plenty of electrical sockets to provide charging points. My only slight criticism of the room is that the cylindrical shiny white bedside table (if that's what it is) has a slightly convex top which caused my phone to slide off a couple of times. Luckily no damage was done, despite the hard wooden floor!
There's a large communal room known as The Library alongside the lifts on the fifth floor with a coffee machine, tables and comfortable chairs. Useful as a place to relax and read or to work.
There's no onsite restaurant so you need to find somewhere else for breakfast. However, there are plenty of places just a couple of minutes' walk away.
Overall: delightfully uncomplicated and nice and comfortable. Recommended.

I stayed here mainly due to the location in proximity to Manuka Oval. This location provided a short walk to the oval for an AFL footy match. It's also close to Parliament House.
Team were friendly and welcoming upon arrival, explained all the hotel amenities and adjacent amenities.
The lounge area was set up with a grab and go area (lounge with a communal expanded mini bar). I loved the lounge, it was warm, relaxing with 6th floor views of greater Canberra. It is a great place to relax before and after the AFL footy match I was there to attend. There selection of snacks and drinks was also more than adequate.
I may have missed this in the reservation process, however, my room was an internal room with view of an internal garden. For me, It was a little claustrophobic not being able to see far out the window. I'd check this for future bookings, given the choice between internal and external facing room, I would always choose one with a view of the area, in particular being on a high floor (6th floor is high for this city and provides for fabulous views as seen from their lounge).
Overall a pleasant overnight stay.
Tip for people visiting Canberra check local parking requirements on weekends and public holiday's. Parking meters were on over the Easter Long weekend, however, it was understood by locals that there is free parking on public holidays in outdoor parking lots.

A great little hotel, with good facilities, however if you plan on staying more than one night it becomes very tight on space. They have a great lounge and library, however if your stay includes a Sunday or Monday night, which ours included both, don't expect any of the services or facilities to be available. You can't get a drink in your own hotel on either of these nights, even the chocolates were removed from reception - its the small touches!

Hi Nichoddo Thank you for the review of your recent stay. Great to read you enjoyed the library and lounge as spaces to relax in. In addition to your minibar, lounge beverages can be ordered through our 24hr guest service team. Our new in room tablets have the ability for you to order drinks (and other amenities) at your fingertips. Apologies you are missing the reception chocolates. Chocolates and apples have been removed in response to COVID-19 and best hygiene practises. We hope to welcome you back to LN in the future. Warm regards Kathryn

We arrived at the Little National on a cold and overcast Canberra day, and instantly felt snug and warm in this beautifully designed place to stay. Watching the Canberra weather slide by the wall-sized windows at the end of the hotel room is captivating. Leave the blinds open and you'll feel like you're sleeping under the stars at night.
The lounge is very comfortable with the big warm fires, and there are plenty of spaces to sit and type in the library if you need to research activities for the next day or catch up on work.
We split our return trip home over two days instead of one partly because we didn't want to do the extra driving, but mostly because we wanted to stay here a second time

We finally booked our staycation even though we live in Canberra. We both needed a break from our house and work spaces - especially in 2020. We virtually stayed in the hotel to watch movies and just unwind. We did go out to the National Gallery to see the latest exhibition and eat at Ostani's twice - highly recommend them. Unfortunately, Buvette was closed but we hope to go there soon in 2021. This is the perfect location to walk to popular, older suburbs in Canberra and super quiet with it's block out blinds. The lounge area provided a chance to sit and read books. There is a bar upstairs which my husband loved as he could have a local beer or two. Overall, we loved our stay,

Bed is huge and very comfortable. Room décor, bathroom fittings etc are all modern, funky and beautifully appointed. Good selection of movies. Whilst the room is small it's all you need for the single traveller and still felt spacious due to the very high ceilings, floor to ceiling window and opaque glass bathroom walls.
Location is the "business" end of town and therefore practically deserted weekends but lots of great dining and drinking options within walking distance. I chose this hotel because of the great price, stylish fitout and proximity to the bridge to bridge run route around Lake Burley Griffin.
The café on the ground floor is unfortunately closed weekends which is a shame as it's handy having a breakfast option in the hotel, but there is a very nice café in Hotel Realm across the street and an even better brekkie café called Little Bird about 5 minutes walk away.
Library/lounge was a really nice space to work or enjoy your uber eats meal away from your room. Free espresso coffee and sparkling water was a nice touch.

The staff were extremely pleasant, attentive, and helpful. The room was sensational. Subtle touches like the tea set and coffee machine really made the room a cut above others for the price! I will definitely be staying again next time I'm in town. Very convenient location for sightseeing and morning walks around leafy Barton.

Excellent hotel for a reasonable cost. Rooms are very small but so we’ll designed and the enormous end window provides a welcome landscape .
Decor is very contemporary and the whole building feels light.
The location in Barton is close to the foreshore, for walks, and there is an excellent bistro across the road - Buvette - and other cafes for breakfast (food at Maple and Clove was disappointing, but they were super busy during our meal)
We enjoyed a quick drink in the bar before heading out and I was disappointed not to have time to sit in the spacious library room.
The staff were all welcoming, and if they keep the reasonable rates, this will be our go to hotel on future visits.
