My wife, my young 11 month old daughter and I stopped overnight in Canberra on a road trip form Sydney to Melbourne. We managed to get an awesome holiday special that included breakfast for less than $120 AUD. Add to that a complimentary room upgrade thanks to being a silver Accor hotels member, and it was a wonderful stay. The...

The customer service was great, The location is just around the corner from the War Memorial, The price was decent, The room was clean, The bed was fairly comfy. The presentation of the interior and exterior was picture perfect, the internal court yards were beautiful and there was plenty of parking

Everything is relative, you know? I stayed with my husband and two young children and we really like the setup of the loft apartment. The kitchenette is cute, but not really a kitchenette, with no stove top to heat things up on. There is a microwave however, and I was thankful for this. Housekeeping - Not bad, but not consistent....

Dear curlyfries76, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. Our loft rooms are very handy for families, we are currently reviewing the kitchenette inclusions so thank you for your views. Our beds were all new three years ago and we straight away installed toppers to increase our guest comfort, if you could contact me directly on scott.grant@mercurecanberra.com.au...

Rooms were a little dated and the cleaning left a bit to be desired. The glassware was not as clean as it should have been - There were Long Black Hairs left in the shower. Very dusty especially under the desk. Not up to the standard of a Mecure Hotel. That said the Food and Beverage Manager Natasha Martins was...

We picked up two nights accommodation including breakfast at a very reasonable rate. The room was spacious (loft bedroom) but the decor was a bit dated. That being said it had everything we needed and the car parking was free. Good points - great shower -plenty of hot water & pressure, great location and helpful staff on front desk who...

Stayed only 1 night. Very expensive for the type of room we stayed in. I appreciate that this is an old Hotel. But the room we stayed in was very small and the noise level high from other patrons. Hall light shone through the door jam all night which was very annoying. Too small and out of the way. Chose...

Dear h h, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, I am sorry you were disappointed. Our Standard rooms vary in size, we have Standard, Superior and Deluxe Loft rooms. When we did our refurbishment we were limited to the internal changes we could make due to being a Heritage listed building. Due to this our Standard...

Historical hotel in good location close to War Memorial and shops at other end of street. Gentleman who received us at desk and managed the the breakfast room was one of the best we have encountered in the world, as we travel frequently. Clean and spacious rooms, beautiful gardens, good breakfast and value for money. One downside they charged us...

The Mecure hotels are very overrated, was not fussed by the whole experience, only chose this hotel for the location! And for a hotel in the nations capital.. There was NO vegemite at breakfast! This is an outrage against Australia! Other than that, the shower was the only other positive point, it wasn't one of those water saving shower heads...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Welcome to Mercure Canberra, a part of Canberra's history Originally known as the Hotel Ainslie, Mercure Canberra was built to provide accommodation for public servants relocating to Canberra to support the transfer of the Commonwealth Parliament. It is one of eight remaining government built hotels or hostels from Canberra's first stage of development in the 1920s and is listed in the Register of the National Estate. Mercure Canberra is historically significant for its important role in the development of North Canberra and the forging of its community identity. While maintaining many original features, the hotel embraces the need for 21st century comforts to ensure you feel welcome and have an enjoyable stay. Our 129 guest rooms are well appointed and have been decorated in keeping with the heritage style of the building. Our Standard rooms are located in the Heritage wing, with the layout and style of room not changing from the hotels' original days. For those looking for a more modern layout, you may wish to select one of our Superior or Deluxe Loft rooms in the newer part of the building. Our guests have the option to dine at our onsite Courtyard Restaurant serving modern Australian cuisine in the evening and a choice of Continental or Buffet breakfast in the morning. Those looking for a more casual dining experience can enjoy Bistro style meals from our Olims Bar & Bistro, a favourite spot for hotel guests and locals to mingle, serving Craft Beers & Cider from our very own Lovedale Brewery Our location is ideal. 600m from the Australian War Memorial commemorating those who serve our country, both past and present. Most of Canberra's National Attractions are within 10 minutes' drive from the hotel and the CBD is and easy 10 minute walk away and offers a wide range of cafes, bars and restaurants, as well as shops and a Dendy Movie Cinema. Our team at Mercure Canberra look forward to making you feel welcome when you plan your next stay in beautiful Canberra, Australia ... more   less
